  • In this instructional video FixAppleNow tech will show a step by step repair of an imac logic board with a short on the pp5v_s0 rail.
    A shorted capacitor was found by means of feeding/injecting current into the shorted rail and measuring the temperature with a thermal imager/ camera made by Flir.

    I fixed a 58 inch Hisense TV that way. One of the SMD ceramic caps was shorted on the LCD controller board. I used to fix CRT TV back in the days but what goes wrong with those were different from today’s surface mount board. I would have never imagined a ceramic capacitor can short because those did not go bad in the old circuit boards. It was usually a shorted fly back transistor or fly back transformer. Sometimes I just put low voltage directly into the suspected capacitor

    Very instructive video, do you detect other bad components with this methods?

    • @fixapplenow
      @fixapplenow  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can only detect short with this method. Yes, most active or passive components will warm up when you run current through them. Sometimes CPU is hard to get warm. You need a lot of current

    Around 7:20 the Flir seemed to be showing about 110 C , but it looked like 10 C because the 100's digit was over the light yellow of the image.

    Flir thermal cameras suck big time, resolution is too low, there is no support, there is no parts for it nor are there any repairers in Australia, well there is one 1,000 km away in Melbourne and they charge a flat rate to look at it of $250, may be more if it needs to be sent to USA. Needless to say i will never buy another Flir camera ever again. Warranty runs out, $600 camera dies. As for Seek, it's just as bad not worth the money so don't get fulled by repairers on here that are praising the camera's, they are getting paid to advertise it.

      If these so called made in USA thermal imagers are no good on quality and after sales service, are we better off with chinese imagers?

    • @Z3NITH_
      @Z3NITH_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michelle Newman
      That's just straight up wrong. I have had no issues with my seek and it is a very high quality sensor for the price. You seem to be the only person trashing on these two companies, when all the other brands are cheap Chinese pieces of shit. The technology is inherently expensive because it is an even broader area of study then even visible cameras.
