- Give me loud pipes any day. The louder the better really as I think our noise is our armour. Creeping silently along amongst cars isn't a good idea (in my opinion). Anyway, I'd be interested to know what you think. Bit of a chat here, bit of documented information. I love the thunderous roar of a full blooded cruiser!

This study was obviously carried out with stock pipes..?The nuance here or possible difference is after market pipes which are significantly louder..
My Aprilia V4 1100rr with HP Corse aftermarket pipe, definitely makes motorists aware of my presence from 50ft from 33ft they are hearing me and within 10ft their door panels are resonating..
Thank you to considerate motorists who move in allowing me past..They always get a thank you in the form of a thumbs up!
Most children want me to rev it up for them when passing. I try to balance that with consideration for other people..

Most motorists are nice with me too when I'm filtering..only some behave aggressively with irrational road position jealousy. It's a really contentious issue actually isn't it!!
@@lionheartmachines2193 You’re welcome. Stock pipes are soo quiet I think that is the benchmark used in this study case in Romania.
Furthermore, I do believe you’re quite right about this phenomena you call “ irrational position jealousy” - good term, it’s happened to me a few times and can be extremely annoying.

Scientific studies can say just what the people running the study want it to say. Noisy bikes can be a safety device for pedestrians especially blind/partially sighted people.Many car drivers can't hear bikes coming because of the music blasting from them. Many boy racer car drivers have very loud and unpleasant pipes and no one bats an eyelid but bikers as usual get condemned if they have a loud set of pipes.You have made another excellent video again Sophia and very important in subject matter as well.Keep safe and bike on.
Hello Derek, thank you very much indeed!!! And the noisy exhaust cars always bug me actually because that's just plain showing off!! They don't need noise protection. Mind you I love the sound of my pipes even when there's no other traffic around...but, a few years ago I was going out with a chap with a very noisy Mustang and I found it excruciatingly embarrassing!! I have a little electric moped I use for shopping. It is nice sometimes to drive along a country lane and be able to hear all the sounds of nature.
I am addicted to the sound of a 2 stroke engine though.
I love any two wheels really I think... I love the sound of the engine when I'm riding, and then the rest of my time I'm very much involved and surrounded by nature... which I love!!
Love the sound of my HD sportster with screaming eagle pipes and the desal-pop although childish, makes me grin....
I'm smiling as I hear it in my imagination!! There's nothing wrong with childlike delight!!!
The rat crept up with little sound, a bit like an EV driver or rider🤣🤣When I was riding home one time and my good lady asked upon my arrival did you hear the helicopter? Also when I was riding home on my Triumph T100ss 1967 mum would catch the beautiful sound of open pipes and put the kettle on so the tea would be ready when I walked in the door. You are a wise and beautiful lady, good point about the emergency services.

I like the idea of your mother putting the kettle on for you. My hens all know the sound of my vehicles and run down to the gate to greet me (and they don't do that with anyone else)! That study's conclusions are certainly nonsensical. When my son and I are in the car, we always say "bike incoming" or "bike behind" when they are some way off. He likes quiet bikes, I like loud ones but as you say, you only hear them for a very short while. Not like when someone's having a party that goes on for hours and the music is not to your taste.
I think perhaps chicken space of joy might be a little less Carry On 🤣🤣🤣
My chicken area phrases were most definitely 'carry on' weren't they!! 😂 But it made me laugh. And.....yes, that research was absolute pants...the problem with things like that though that are 'researched'!!! and 'documented' is that they are then accepted as science and those figures used to calculate future studies. But as I was reading them I was thinking how utterly insane they were!!! It's lovely to hear from you!!
You made a good point about "Loud Pipes" I think the Romanian study might have been wrongly translated.
If a car has windows up and the bike is two or three cars behind that car, then yes, he can hear the sound but cannot
"discern" that it is a Motorcycle. Surely hearing it is less important than knowing what it is. A blowing back box on
a car exhaust sounds much the same. What motorists lack is "Observation" ...
"Oh I didn't see you" is the first words spoken after they've tried to kill you. I've been there.

You are on top form in this video. You made me laugh with your idea of riding into a Roman battle on two bikes at once. I do like loud pipes on other people's bikes but for my own bike I prefer quieter pipes for the sake of my ears. Tinnitus is no joke! BTW I love the way you proudly fly the Union Jack. It is lovely to see.

I’m becoming more and more wary of walking in car parks due to electric cars silently creeping up on you, their eerie sound is like whispering death. About four years ago I visited London and elected to walk rather than take the tube for one stop, I wasn’t used to the numbers of electric cars around and I swear I nearly got run over three times because I couldn’t hear them, subconsciously I must use sound as a trigger to look.
Whispering death perfectly describes that eerie sound. We will have to use our eyes more but as someone else said, you can't see them speeding around a corner.
But of course we use sound as a trigger to look... it's a clarion call, you're aware that something else is existing. There are sooo many more in London aren't there! It is so incredibly disturbing that such lethal objects are silent. Your 'whispering death' phrase is brilliantly graphic!!

I wouldn't rely on my loud pipes to ensure other road users have noticed I'm there.

We almost stept into the path of one of those electric battery remote control kind of hairdryer mopeds, when i went to cross the road ,didnt hear it coming,,,x

I've got s scorpion exhaust on my Suzuki gsx r 750 and that sounds awesome. I was talking with someone about loud exhaust saves life's which is true but this bloke said if someone is in his car on a hot day and he has the air conditioning on with all the windows shut you cannot hear Anything outside . I tried it in my car on a hot day and it is true you cannot hear anything . But you are not going to have the air conditioning on much especially in this country much because the weather is most of the time it's shit . Love the video 🤟👍

Totally agree with you about electric bikes, I mean the sound of a vehicle it’s part of the heartbeat. Remove the heartbeat what’s left. I’ve had many loud bikes in the past and just has many quiet bikes. Although I must say on reflection for long distance, I do like something a little bit quieter. PS I’m glad it was raining. You would have become Boadicea in the Southwest.😂

How often the car drivers say "I didnt see you" well if there was an audible assistant provided by loud pipes perhaps that would make them more aware of us. They should see it as a blessing rather than a curse.
Absolutely yes. Sound is a crucial part of our armour... we're just so vulnerable otherwise.

Definitely loud but not excessively loud, i've heard bikes so loud they almost make your ears bleed. I used to have Scorpion end cans on my xjr1300, they weren't overly loud but sounded throaty, but one of my mates ran into the back of me and damaged one of them so i put the standard mufflers back on but with a small modification to make them a bit louder. My Rocket 3 is to quiet and definitely needs a louder exhaust. But i have to say you can't beat the sound of a big V twin on straight through pipes, your XV always sounds good 👍.
That's what I love too...a v twin. But it's thrilling hearing superbikes racing too. And, thank you very much!!
Been riding bikes from as soon as I could reach dads bikes footpegs offroad as a child to being 60 next year . So about 50 years on two wheels and yep loud bikes are heard, used to smile as in traffic jams you see cars moving out of your way as they hear you coming as your filtering . On the other side whilst riding ebike on country lanes nearly being taken out by electric car going really fast on blind bend that I never heard coming on country lane they would call a footpath in some places.
I wander around in a world of my own occasionally and have been horribly surprised by an electric car right behind me!! That's brilliant you've had the passion for two wheels for so long!! All the very best and keep safe!
I had some V&H Eliminators on my Harley for one day! Could'nt bear the noise. My ears were ringing after I rode with them for the day. Took them off the following morning and put back the stock ones. Bliss, I can hear the gentle hum of the engine now and what's going on around me. Maybe better to rely on your riding skills/situational awareness than loud pipes, maybe!? Thanks for another quirky video.

I am Contemplating getting a pair of loud pipes for my triumph bobber now, filtering is such a problem with 70 percent of car drivers, I am sure they think its illegal the way most of them act, then there are the ones, mainly audi and range rover drivers that hate being passed when they are stood still .... the crack and bang of some after market pipes are a sound investment in more ways than one. Take care, might see you out and about this year if you're ever around worcestershire.
I think that's a jolly good idea...go for it! And yes, some car drivers are absolutely vile and have road position jealousy and actually move into your path....it brings out a fury in me!!
@@lionheartmachines2193 in my teenage days I developed a habit of slightly slapping a few wing mirrors, just enough to inconvenience the delightful drivers that think its a bit of fun to annoy bikers 😃

I think some young riders give bikers in general a bad name/ reputation, sometimes I see them standing at a red light reving up for no need at all; what the hell for 🤷🏻♂️ it only makes people look at all bikers as if we are a bunch of law breaking hooligans ( loud ones at that ) But that is just my opinion & I don’t give a t… what other people think of me. There is mint growing with the nettles...the only thing I've found that rats don't like is baked beans...they won't eat them when I give them to the magpie!

I've got 6 hens at the moment and they're rare breeds but I don't know what breeds because (hahum) I 'rescued' them from somewhere where they were being kept in horrible conditions. As to riding and passing my test...I was riding long before I passed my test...best not say any more about that! Nope, never been to the TT... I'd go if there weren't so many millions of people...but I don't like crowds of shouting people. Yes that's horrible. Last year I was riding with someone and as he passed a lorry the driver spat out a load of mouth wash!!! It went all over his face and I'm afraid some in his mouth!! I was so incredibly glad that wasn't me!!
