Thaks so much, I've been waiting for a video showing the inside of one of these boxes for years! I want to go the other way though, I want to go to a higher ratio, like 3.5:1. It looks like the shaft and ring from any D series will fit, right?
I would be cautious and talk to someone who knows a bit more about D transmissions. I believe the wagon shares a more B series style of FD with the 12 bolt? If I remember correctly. It's either 10 or 12 bolt and it's different than most D series. You're very welcome! Sorry it took me a few days to see this.
Is the 91 wagon 4wdrt tranny compatible with 91 CRX HF TRANNY? I want to swap at least the 5th gear for better mpg on my wagon, I drive 60-75mpg daily for hour and a half, I want to drop my rpms
taking out MT transmission only is a pain in ass, it's easier to drop the engine/ trans assy. If you have a blown up clutch disc, NO F'ing way can you pull just the MT trans.
I've pulled the MT transmission by itself a few times, it's not impossible just to drop it out the bottom. It's a pain in the ass to get it back in though lol
It's a lot to take in! After taking this one apart and doing a lot of research through AllData and other sources I feel like I have a strong grasp on it now.
Can you provide me a resource for replacement Synchronizers and bearings for these trans? I'm bawd b16a2 swapping my wagon because I gave up on these wagon trans. Would like to keep it around if I can actually do something with it. I also have a dohc zc in my wagon btw
So the rear is driven off of a separate ring gear that bolts to the new big boy. So the front to rear ratio hasn't changed. But to that point, I was wondering if you change that other ring gear size if you could run a different rear end. That would mean a lot of changes though to the T case etc though.
HELL YEAH, WAGON CONTENT!!! Great job showing us the inner workings of the RT trans.
Thanks Jerry! I looked for a while and there were very few resources on the RT4WD, especially in any detail. I tried to show as much as I could.
this is going to be really great reference for me when i take my rt trans apart. thanks for making this video Jon!
Yessir! Glad you enjoyed it
Good job man this is so cool seeing the inner workings of everything.👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Thanks brother! It's always interesting to see what makes weird cars tick

This build is so awesome! I am loving the progression and can't wait to see it in person one day :)
Thanks so much dude! We will wheel soon.

Not entirely sure actually. Sorry man.

Haha! Yeah the way they send notifications is not the best.

After I went back and hogged it all out one more gin' it shud be good.
Hey does the gears interchange with the fed transmission?
If you're referring to the FWD, I don't believe so. These are weird transmissions for sure

Nice! Yes I can, go shoot a message to Chris at Whoopdeedooracing on Instagram he's a Honda transmission wizard.
Will you need to match the final drive ratio with the rear diff ratio?
So the rear is driven off of a separate ring gear that bolts to the new big boy. So the front to rear ratio hasn't changed. But to that point, I was wondering if you change that other ring gear size if you could run a different rear end. That would mean a lot of changes though to the T case etc though.
