MuOS is minimalist and needs tinkering depending on your preferences, but it's fast and feature-rich. For a gift to someone else I'd set up Knulli because it's prettier, but for myself I want every last bit of power from these chips I can get. In the end, you can't really go wrong with either. Both are phenomenal.
@@pavichokcheI want to say around 15 seconds? It's still better than stock, but MuOS is faster. Knulli doesn't yet have support for sleep with the SP (sorry-- FLIPZZIZLE) hinge though, which is how I discovered MuOS in the first place.
When I set a device down, I never want to have to think, "should I sleep it or shut it all the way down?" When I pick up a device, I never want to find it dead because I chose wrong. MuOS solves this problem by auto saving and shutting down after five minutes in sleep mode (or one, or ten, it's configurable). And you can set it up to boot directly into the last game you played and load that autosave, so it's totally seamless. You can also set it to wait for a WiFi connection before loading the game, useful if you're hunting Retroachievements. And if you change your mind while booting and don't want to wait the extra 10-20s that takes, you can press Start to boot directly into the game without waiting for WiFi, or Select to boot into the main menu instead. Knulli doesn't do any of that. It looks pretty and all, but I don't want to look at a pretty menu, I want to play my games. MuOS gets out of the way and lets me do that.
My only issue with MuOS at this time is that it doesn't hotswap to bluetooth controller like Knulli. When you connect a BT controller Knulli automatically assigns it as P1. From what I know atm You have to manually do this in MuOS. I like connecting my SP to the TV and using my BT controller and then when I disconnect use the console with no fuss.

I love Emulation Station as a front end. So I'm definitely interested in this for my SP. But Knulli doesn't support the hinge yet so I'm gonna hold off. Also, for the SP specifically, I really hope these custom firmwares eventually support the stock OS's power button shortcut that enables analogue stick input via the d-pad in N64 and Dreamcast.
I remember using batocera on my rg35xx plus and it somehow drained battery over night randomly even though it was shutdown properly. Also boot time was over 1 minute I think, so then I installed muos, but it had it own bugs so I went back to stock. Gonna wait a bit more just in case 👀
Batocera you just need to hit start from the main menu and shutdown. If you just hit the power button it will sleep and go flat. Also if you charge it, once you unplug it it stays in like a low power mode and goes flat. You need to turn it on and back off again. Pretty silly quirks but better than stock os so I live with it

I still like muOS better since it has lid support for the SP model. Sure it doesn't looks as flashy as Knulli. But it gets the job done. Also more exciting updates are currently in the works for muOS including the upcoming 'Baked Beans' and then later the 'Banana' update. But I'll be interested in trying Knulli once I get around to buying a new Micro SD card specifically for this firmware.
With regards to the partition formats, I made a flash drive with Batocera, which I formatted the partition to exFAT, then reformatted it to NTFS on Windows and copied all the folders back on. That allows me to access to the rom files, etc, on Windows. Not sure if it works with Portmaster or not. I also threw Retrobat on there, then symlinked (apparently Windows has symlink functionality) the files on Batocera to the Retrobat folders. Now I have the flexibility to use either setup, based on the type of device I plug it into.

Honestly as amazing as knulli is, it's the reason why I bought a miyoo mini plus tbh. Whilst I love ES and how seamless everything works, I've had my fair share of issues with it installed on my 35XXH, such as 2d games lagging like crazy if I turn off shaders (and if I don't the image looks blurry), I can't update via OTA, the newest version didn't support the analog sticks, drag and dropping the update file corrupting the OS, and most importantly no sleep mode(which kills me the most) I just got my miyoo mini plus but onion is genuinely is so much better imo, I think interface wise I still prefer ES but onion os just works, and it's amazing. Thanks for the great video techdweeb sir !
Sleep mode has always worked, but Anbernic's proprietary kernel uses about 5% of the battery per hour while asleep. Knulli's "batocera beta" build had a bug in shutoff mode where shutdown would get stuck when using exfat, but ext4 works fine and I think the issue was fixed in Knulli. OTA doesn't work from bato to knulli since they're different OSes, but it works for updating knulli. Analog sticks work fine and always have, but Anbernic's kernel has such a huge dead zone, it causes cardinal snapping. I've had basically no issues on my 35XXH with bato-beta and knulli, except that the buttons are too stiff. I have a Miyoo Mini Plus too, with Onion... and have run into several issues with it. The physical controls feel nicer since they're softer, but the hardware is slower so it can't run as many games or enable as many features, the clock doesn't work due to a hardware flaw, I've seen it randomly fail to boot, it corrupted its database within a few days, it uses old versions of things, and it's is missing a ton of features I've come to rely on in other devices. Both are using the same exact model of Sandisk, not the included card.

Hi Dweeb! When keeping os and roms on 2 different sd cards, do you know if I can seamlessly swap os cards between knulli and stock os, or roms and saves wont be visible and/or work right away?
Hey techdweeb, Can you do a video on port master? I just downloaded stardew valley on my 35xx plus and wanted to see if there is an analog option to build in the game. Since you have the same device you can see what I’m talking about. Would changing from muOS to knulli fix this problem?
Gotta ask, when i spotted this video I was like "YES!!!" I can make my SP less mid now, but when I check the Knulli page they don't have an SP specific build. So my question is, does the regular H or 2024 build cope with the SP related features... namely quick suspend on closing screen?
So i noticed that in the scroll through the portmaster games, Runner 2 is included. Guess im going to have to buy a third copy so i can take it with me since theres no switch version as of yet
It has Bluetooth support including audio, and on-device art scraper. Themes and game collections manipulation is better, too (MuOS themes is basically the frontpage icons and font/colors, in Knulli there are deep customizations of how you want your systems and gamelists displayed - depends on the theme). In functionality it has parity with MuOS barring the hinge support on SP and shutdown after x minutes in sleep. Currently it also support 64bit ports only compared to MuOS's 32&64 bit support. 32bit support on Knulli will come in time

Will it work with the original RG35xx?
Support for the original RG35XX has been added in the latest Knulli release (20240721).
Blowing the dust off the rg351v
For me personally I've been using AmberELEC for years. Still works great to this day.
I actually like the name Flipzizzle
7:04 TechDweeb easter egg face reveal? :))
This seems very similar to Koriki (bat overs) you presented a while ago !
Are there any differences ?
Hey TD, great video! Maybe you can help me: is it possible to share the same Knulli installed SD card between a Trimui Smart Pro and a Flipzizzle?
Every time you mention LITNXT i remember LTT
So i noticed that in the scroll through the portmaster games, Runner 2 is included. Guess im going to have to buy a third copy so i can take it with me since theres no switch version as of yet
My ears are burning
Do you regret buying the gray model I'm torn apart between blue and gray and curious about your opinion
techdweeb which is your favorite zazzle/zizzle?
does knuli support the device going to sleep when you close the clamshell?
Yup!
Bizzazzle! Got it! 👍
What does this offer over MuOS? Built-in theme downloading? The latest MuOS release boots in 6 seconds, I don't know how anything else can compete...
32bit support on Knulli will come in time
@@dominikcech1478 nice! BT audio is very impressive.
@@dominikcech1478 How well does BT audio work on Knulli? Can you pair some true wireless buds to it and have as consistent an experience as using the 3.5mm port? Does WiFi work at the same time as BT audio?
Your vids made me by my first RG40 and installing Knulli and a ton of games was supereasy thanks to your guide.
Now there is only one thing I can't find out and that is how to get ScummVM running or more specifically, how to get Day of the Tentacle running on it. Anyone with some tips? I found a rom, but it is not in a scummvm file format and simply copying the folder to the scummvm folder isn't doing it.
With Knulli available on the XX line of devices, is the MM+ still your favorite handheld?
So, in trying to set this up, I'm having some network issues. Do you have any idea what your firewall settings are? I can't get my Zazzbizzle to connect to Wi-Fi at all. I ended up plugging it in directly to LAN, but then got met with a "User name" and "Password" wall to get into the device's "share" folder. I'm at a bit of a loss on this one as networking has never been my strong suit.. Thanks for any help on this one, TD! 💚
type guest as a username and the password can be empty
@@Motxo88 Awesome! I was able to get it to connect, sorta. Will try this when I get home! 💚
Excellent video! Now can a proficient RG youtuber do a tutorial on how to map the Menu button on to a bluetooth (say ps5) controller once and for all? ;) 🎉😅
My only question is, does it have a real sleep mode that doesn't blow?
Nope! Sleep mode isn't great. However it does have auto-save if you power off while playing a game. And then next time you start the game you can be right where you left off.
I could hear your terrible jokes all day 😂
PSA I did the whole install. Nice interface but Dreamcast and PSP aren’t playable. Best to stick with the stock OS for now AKA Stockbizzle
Dreamcast and PSP are playable, just make sure you set it to use the standalone emulators instead of the retroarch cores
As a Linux user, I can confirm that we write our own operating systems all the time.
can you tell me which front-end you have on the logitech g cloud in this video? and how did you synchronize the games and game lists to the other handheld?
Knulli means Fucky in Swedish, makes me giggle everytime I see it x)
Yo, Techdweeb! Can you wirelessly copy rom files to ANY handheld console 9:36 using the run dialogue Windows + R?! Maybe this is only possible because Knulii enables a share folder. How would you do this with another handheld, like a Pow🐱 RGB30?
I fuk wit my zaazzzbizle. This firmware is cool
Holy shit was that a face reveal?
😱
