Highlight of my day man. Blown away by the expansion on these. You have been killing it lately with the videos. Loving it, keep it up man. Cannot say thank you enough.
Just when I had decided I "needed" a lever gun in .45-70 Government you start testing various .450 Bushmaster loadings and now I'm wishing I could find a lever gun in that caliber. Of course, I would go with a 20" barrel but that is just the barrel length I like best and no reflection on your apparent preference for 16" tubes. I strongly suspect I would be more likely to find a large herd of unicorns hiding in plain sight here in our little town than I would be to find a lever gun in .450 Bushmaster along with a case of the ammo you tested in this video. So, I guess I'll have to continue my search for a good used "JM" Marlin in .45-70 or settle for a Rossi R92 in .454. Excellent video as usual! Keep up the great work you do!
Disagree with me if you will..... but I think Remington's ammunition (the company post-acquisition) as a whole is functioning better than Hornady's ammunition as a whole. And that's saying something.
I am not surprised by the excellent expansion of this bullet. If you look at its construction, it has a massive plastic "ballistic" tip, and below it, it has a hollow area with what is essentially a flat-faced core underneath. When it hits, the tip blows up and that flat-faced core suddenly hits HARD and expands exponentially. Remington is making some really great products right now, and IMO they are making some of the best ammo they have ever made. Better than most internet noise-consuming people would ever give it credit for. I'm a big fan of their Core-Lokt Tipped ammo in particular. It's excellent stuff with consistent, deadly terminal performance.
This is my “go-to” ammo for my semi-custom Savage 450 Bushmaster. Shoots great groups and hits like a freight train. Shot a doe at about 50yds with it and she collapsed on the spot.
Interesting test. Your results with this Remington ammunition is a serious improvement compared to when Remington first tried their hand at the 450 Bushmaster several years ago. It’s good to see you enjoying Thumper! -Texas Sheepdawg
You need the try the underwood ammo . 450bm, 220 extreme hunter soild copper, you might be surprised. My hand loads using the same bullet are very impressive.
Expansion was impressive, but that baby is a boat anchor. If you were hunting over very close feeders, 50 to 60 yards, small plots of land or spot and stalk in thick brush these would be great. Has a .144 BC, by 100 yards it has lost almost 500 fps and 1,000 ft pounds of energy. And the Accutip ammo has got pretty expensive. I think I will stick with the Hornady Black or Winchester Deer Season XP 250 grainers for speed and overall performance. Thanks for another good test.
I know of only 1 rifle chambered in 450 Bushmaster that has longer than a 20 inch barrel. It is the CVA Scout. I just so happened to pick one of these up this week to do some testing. It has a 25” barrel.
I shot 2 deer with these out of a 20g. Don't think they expanded. Shots were only 20 yards, tiny holes in and out. That was 7 years ago, so don't know it that was before the new ownership.
Alright, I think one big factor is that this bullet has a BC like a barn door. It is .144 !!! (Hornady .210) So the impact velocity was only about 1.450 ft/s. That is real slow.
Yeah, real slow at 100 yards... like a 44 Magnum AT THE MUZZLE. I dislike the bic pen tops on them, but, if reasonably priced, they should do the trick at 100 yards or so and certainly inside that.
Yeah, the deadliest green lipstick in the woods 😂. So interested how it will perform. (Cont.) Really puzzling performance. Massive expansion, sufficient penetration, but a total no show in gel. Real headscratcher
@@masonleather_outdoors yep, looks more like a subsonic. But the massive uniform expansion at that low speed is super impressive. Might be a better subsonic bullet for handloaders than the Sub-X diva 😂.
I've used it on deer it punched a hole straight through and since she was laying down it only expanded when it hit her knee on the other side since I switched to deer season xp 250gr I'd love to see a review on it because so far they have done great for me
I wonder what the weight retention would look like if you were able to weigh the bullet separately before firing as well. Also would show if Remington buffs up their weights too.
I see you don't offer a leather butt pad and wrap to fill in a crescent butt plate for an 1886 Winchester. I am interested in one to convert the stock butt flat and take up recoil. Your FAQ section says you will not produce what is not listed so my question is do you think you will ever start making and listing them?
Hello, My Cuffs are universal fit for anything with a standard adult size straight comb stock, they will work on a stock with a crescent buttplate, but they are not purpose made for them. I do not plan on making something specifically for crescent buttplate stocks.
I’ve tried to film that test multiple times, it might be why there’s not a single video on it… the 260gr Fusions just zip through over 4 feet of ballistics gel. I think I even stacked 6 feet worth and still could t catch any. I don’t think they’re expanding at all. I’ll try again sometime.
What were they thinking using a 24” barrel? I don’t know who has an AR that long. Anyway. It performed awesomely. How was the recoil on those compared to the others?
Great expansion, I don’t think you’d want any more velocity than that. That 24” barrel is such nonsense. Bushmaster uses magnum handgun powder, so it’s doubtful a 20” barrel would add much, let alone a 24.”

That's saying a whole lot of something 🍻
Big Green is finally getting back to its former glory
Well, make it 'new glory' because things have never been terribly consistent or reputable for very long in the recent several decades.
I agree with you Hornady just ain't cutting it now day's
This is helpful. My 450 is a CVS single shot and it has a 25 inch barrel.
Fun fact. These are actually muzzleloader bullets. You can buy them for reloading, or used to be able to anyways.
True. That's where the big expansion is coming from. They are designed to work well at lower velocities.
Been using these for 5 years glad to see a review on it I’m the only one I know who uses this
I been using the Remington 260 gr accu tips for the past 5 years every deer i had shot has dropped in there tracks awesome round
Sledgehammers
Hornady should be taking notes for 450 Bushmaster

The CVA Cascade bolt-action uses a 22" tube, and I believe some of their older single shots have 25" barrels.

Man, 450 Bushmaster is really looking like the modern 45-70 to me.
Flat out impressive .

Yea it’s gonna bleed off performance pretty quick, not surprising it had no real shock cavity

Henry's 450 bushmaster is a 23 inch barrel.
CVA 450 bushmaster is a 25 inch Barrel
Tigers go wild package is also a 24 he just has the bare bones rancher
This seems like the exact projectile they load in the 20 gauge accutip just going a bit faster.
They are. I confirmed it with Remington.
It is the same bullet
Same bullet similar muzzle velocity, different delivery system.

It’s going too slow at impact to create a shock cavity.

My cva scout list it as a 25in barrel that what i got that over the ruger an also because i got stainless for about the same price as the ruger
I just can't get these to pattern in my 20" barrel AR platform. Hornady black shoot just about MOA, so that's what we are hunting with.
I wonder what the weight retention would look like if you were able to weigh the bullet separately before firing as well. Also would show if Remington buffs up their weights too.
The 450 Ruger Go Wild has a 22" barrel. I would love to find some of those.
Considering a loss of 127fps for 8" shorter barrel, you really are not giving up much. Especially for that expansion and weight retention.

I have a bolt action Ruger American 450 with a custom 24 inch barrel on it cost alot but worth it
Well there ya go
Would love to see a federal fusion 260grain test! Not a single video on TH-cam! Thanks for the content and information
My CVAsingle shot.Hunter model is a 24 inch barrel
Ditch your muzzlebreak/flash hider if you want more velocity from your short barrel
That's pretty awesome!
Love the content!
Remington may be contracting with Speer for this bullet. Acts much like a Fusion/Deep Curl.
The ruger go wild 450 bm has a 22 inch counting the muzzle brake
Looks really good from here. Deer, hog, bear for sure. Thank you
You should try Nosler ballistic tips. I have some for my 243 and I’d like to know how they hold together.
That’s not a load that exists in 450B
Definitely a great medium game bullet, but that “bison” rating seems… optimistic
Absolute monsters.
Absolutely
Can you test out that ammo in .270?
Thats a spicy meatball! 1inch after expansion. Ouch
I have a case of 3” 20 gauge accutips. They dump deer in their tracks!
I've just shot a doe with one single lung shot, and it lodged under the skin under on the rear ham it ran 30 yards and dropped
cva scout 450 has a 25in barrel.
What were they thinking using a 24” barrel? I don’t know who has an AR that long. Anyway. It performed awesomely.
How was the recoil on those compared to the others?
I have a Ruger American with a 22 inch barrel and my CVA Hunter has a 26 inch barrel
I don’t remember how the recoil was, I had already shot a ton that day and really wasn’t paying attention to recoil anymore 🤣
When you remove the weight of the plastic tip I'll bet its almost 100%weight retention.
Do any of the major manufacturers make an all copper 450 BM round
Winchester and Remington do. I have some factory loaded Barnes TSX in 450 Bushmaster, but I don’t see it on there website anymore
Underwood and/or Buffalo Bore might
@@SonJWri cool…need to find some to try
Just Google Barnes 450 bushmaster
The American whitetail out performed that.
Great expansion, I don’t think you’d want any more velocity than that.

Call CVA 450 boostmaster has a 25 inch
Single shot .450 Bushmaster rifles like CVA Scout have 24" barrels
Cva makes a single shot 450 with a 25 inch barrel
Well there ya go
Thats a fail for mine. Made a hole and thats it
WASNT IMPRESSED WITH THOSE AT ALL!!!!
Why not? Genuinely curious
I shoot the CVA hunter it has a 24 inch barrel
Enough of these meme straitwall cartiges
