Hi Dean. I have a 2 Audi Allroads with same suspension setup. 55 plate(C5) and 60 plate(C6). These have self levelling suspension so if one corner drops the car compensates by dropping the others. Lift the car to maximum height and put it into jacking mode via the MMI. This will disable self levelling and if you have a leaking airbag, only the faulty corner should drop. As posted earlier, it would also be advisable to replace the air compressor relay with an upgraded version. Good luck👍

I too had to change the compressor: I first cheaped out on the refurb kits (to no avail), followed by the 200 quid compressor (repackaged China) from a UK ebay seller, which only lasted me 4 months. I then bought the original OEM WABCO for around 400 euro from Germany. That one is working great, fingers crossed:). I also changed the valve block (just because I wanted to) and two strut valves. Luckily, my bags are not leaking, but I have a guy who can replace the rubber sleeves for 80 euro a pop (no need to buy a new strut). It is also important to change the plastic height sensor linkages because they seize over time; one UK ebay seller sells adjustable linkages made out of metal. Mine were super seized. And, don't forget to change the compressor relay; it comes with the new compressor.

I see you found out that Audi pile on a huge mark-up! Many years ago I worked for a systems supplier to Audi and one day an unhappy member of the general public (owning a C5 A6) managed to find the contact details for my employer and phoned up to try to find out if Audi were ripping him off for some component / system that we manufactured. The receptionist put the call through to me and....yes, I had to tell him (strictly off the record, of course...) that Audi were quoting him approximately seven times the price of what my employer would charge Audi to supply said item. The gentleman's next question was - would it be possible for him to acquire it directly from my employer...? I had to tell him that car manufacturers make their profits by screwing their suppliers in the first instance and then screwing their customers for any spare parts in the second instance. If it had been up to me, I would have given him contact details for our sales division and suggested that they open up a little sideline to bypass Audi on spare parts, but sadly that was far above my pay grade! How I (do not) miss the automotive industry....
Hi Dean, a fuse never blows for no reason. The compressor has an NTC sensor (overheat) which inhibits relay coil to shut of power. If the relay is welded shut (on) the NTC ecu control does not work, it then runs the pump forever, vents the overpressure air and burns the compressor out. It will be caused ultimately by a combination of leaks adding to increased demand on pump duty. Recently I found leaks around the joints on the front strut top aluminium housings (porus) that was the leaks and the demand. Clue was the car (cayenne-same as q7) was down on its nose in the morning. For what its worth, monitor pressure vs temp vs demand call from the ecu to determine a lazy compressor - it will be at this age, so a decent replacement around 350 quid, easy to fit plus new relay. You need however to fix the leaks. Get so soapy water in a spray bottle, with system pressurised, spray every joint, pipes, tops of air springs etc. Leaks will blow bubbles Dean - cheap and easy. Then fix the leaks...
So Audi, having proper diagnostics failed to see the fuse was blown?? WTF , that's scandalous there is no way they missed that fault and just wanted to charge £££.
Wrong. Audi knew the fuse was blown, they knew the pump sounded like an asbestos lung, and they knew all 4 airbags and lines needed replacing and they are required to give their work a sensible warranty, along the lines that the air system would be trouble free for xxxx thousand miles or 1 year. I don't know the UK consumer laws but would be surprised if a dealer could charge to fix something and have it fail a month later without the consumer being protected.
Typical air suspension fault is due to oxidation build up on the connectors .. had a similar fault on a w205 c class , merc as usual recommended by replacing the compressor without checking.. long story short cleaned out the oxidation build up and sealing jt better than factory.. never had a problem since
SAME air pump issue on my 2006 Q7 - I solved it all for £190 with Labour when Audi quoted £3,500 thieves! MMI unit now blown, and the tailgate sounds like a machine gun. Can’t sell it coz of tax and emissions and fuel consumption is now double what it used to be - breaking for Spares (Newcastle)
That's a great point about fuel consumption doubling with age on secondhand cars. Which goes to show most people in the secondhand market on a budget are better off getting something economical to begin with. Not some gas guzzling speed racer job they can just about afford.
I had a ABS ECU failure on an A6 2.5 V6. Audi said 1500 for the part and probably same again for the labour. Did a bit of googling and found a place in the UK that reconditioned the ABS ECU , £52 GBP and a video to show you how to fit it in 45 mins. bba-reman was the name of the crowd who reconditioned it.
Wife had the exact same issue with hers - thankfully fixed under warranty. Further cemented my love of older uncomplicated cars but hey... the Audi's nice while it works lol
I clicked on this video wondering if you'd mention towing capacity, and you did! I've been on the hunt looking for a vehicle with space enough to carry Tools + 4 Wheels (and fitted tyres), as well as have weight left over to tow up to 2T at least.
Replaced two rear bellows on 5 series touring for just £80 the pair, decent quality off Ebay, BMW wanted in excess of £2,000 for exactly the same job. And it only took me 3hrs. Oh and that was 18 months with no issues since. Lesson learnt.
Hi Dean, I really enjoy your video's and it also served as learnings in one or another way. What happed to the Q7 is there another Video number 3 on it ?
The left rear air strut is bad and makes them all leak . I had a allroad and the corner that leaned was the bag that leaked . I got them at airnot industries and they come with lifetime warrenty . I love these q7 s ❤️
The original compressor on my CLS jammed on, which overheated it and resulted in it melting the power connector. It still worked after this but it got progressively worse. If you've ordered a new compressor you should probably still fit it
Hi Dean. Not a car for me. But saying that. I think your on the right track with a repair. Also plenty of suggestion in other comments, on where to go next. See you in the next one. 👍👍
On the land rover ones there’s a big rubber o-ring seal that goes we used soapy water in a spray bottle. Aftermarket bag kits aren’t to dear if worst comes to worst.

It’s got to be excellent value for money as you could part it out and get your initial outlay back and then some, though as I like the Q7 SUV I hope you will continue and find the leak(s), have it mot’d and use it as your daily still 👌🏼
It's a nice car and given your abilities and willingness to use ebay/pattern parts, it's an easy choice, fix it and ditch the pickup! Good luck and keep posting the great videos.
Had the same problem with a merc w205, fuse blown quite a while back replaced it along with the pump because it was seized. After a few months the car came back because it was losing rear hight, replaced both rear airbags and did solved it, it was a tiny leak that wasn't always showing up
It looks like you bucked your sills. Very common damage on these. You are supposed to jack it up by the subframe mounts, and you ramped it up by the sills. Compatible compressor can be had for about £450 new, and takes under half an hour to replace. Beware the cheap ones - they will likely be reconditioned. Reconditioning seal kit costs about £30, but they are useless, they will fail again within a few months. Pump stopped because it overheated. When it cools back down it will start working again. They are only good for a short duty cycle, so if you have serious air leaks, it will burn itself out pretty quickly. And those air leaks are bad enough that the pump is liable to wear itself out pretty quickly. Good luck.
Older big SUV's may sound tempting for the price but they can be a total money pit. I bought a 2003 X5 3.0D Sport cheap a few years back. Ended up needing an automatic gearbox and a turbo. Not to mention the last owner had snapped all 6 glowplugs when they attempted removal...
Sounds like a valveblock if its anything like the Mercedes Airmatic. My S Class used to drop, and replaced the valveblock after lots of investigation, and now sits level for weeks. Normally the seals go hard and leak internally
Replace the Air Suspension Risidual Pressure Valves on the front. first, Also replace the complete pump anyway, because of the small dust and debrid in pump de-hydro system. Should work fine after that. cheers
Got a 2014 Q7, best car i've ever driven, love it ..Audi quoted me £1300 to replace disks & pads, i got the OE Brembo full set off ebay for £300😂 and £150 for fitting, main dealers really take the micky
Ah, the good old german pneumatic suspension problems 🤣 Depends if they have a one way valve fitted but the compressor itself can be the cause of the leak. The compressors piston just has a weird plastic/nylon sealing ring that wears n fails over time and most of these systems have a moisture filter that rarely gets replaced so you get corrosion in the system. Could bea simple sealing ring has failed on one of the lines or just the compressor is knackered but finding air leaks on these things is never a fun task. Good luck with it 😉
May have been mentioned in previous comments however maybe try a smoke generating machine doo dad (used for vacuum leaks etc) to find the leak(s). Just a thought 😁🤔
Dean . Bmw and audi has the same pump as it being made by one company. In my case I had sticking sort of dump valve which is inside of the pump under the mesh what stopping moisture. But when the car sat without doing anything (covid lock down) the valve got stuck and it just a matter of flushing it with carb cleaner/wd40 and presto 30 min job I had pump and pair of air bags purchased £££ from eurocarparts prior repair When I took pump off though let see what is wrong with it . .... after cleaning all start working as it should. Took all the new parts back for the refund. No penny spent
£3000? I thought I would never find any spares more costly than Lexus, but the Lexus air suspension pump is only about £400. The air struts, however, are £1000 per corner, fitted (2022 price).
These VAG prices are getting ridiculous. I just got quoted £180 from TPS for a rear wheel hub and bearing assembly. I ended up buying a good quality pattern item for £50!!
I've got an a6 allroad same age wouldn't fault the ebay special compressors also if your buying bags but them with the strut there not an easy install on these struts
Going through a similar issue myself. Bmw f11 2012, rear compressor for the airbags, new one off ebay 2 years ago now rusting from the inside out. Now have to buy a genuine one. Steer clear of the ebay rubbish. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Sellers don't reply when there's an issue with the item..
Gutted you sold the V10 I'd of had that off you for a project. You can probably strip and fix the compressor yourself normally not too hard. Then you'll have a spare pump. May as well change the air bags as well or just spring convert them.
Watching this video only to discover that green TVR Cerbera hiding in the back ground of the garage! Best of luck to ye mate and thanks for the vid. Ex Tvr Tuscan S owner
I think modern society is too ready to throw stuff away rather than fix it. Probably too much electronics on modern cars but you’re proof it can be something fairly simple if you can be bothered
From personal experience i hate air suspensions. Bags go bad, compressors go bad and often have subpar bladders, sub-controllers screw up on a whim and a the only thing the brands can do is charge outrageous prices for something that doesn't solve the problem. The compressor you bought is a good investment for less than 300£, same goes for spare fuses. Hope you can fix it permanently easily and without too much expense.

I must have looked obsessive, I closed over 20 doors. Quite a few had Bose sound systems in them complete with door cards, cheap upgrade if you like your music - simple plug n play surely?
The pump sounds far too noisy - I would swap in a new one...
youve had a right result Dean..for sure this is a keeper,,the outside is cosmetic no problem for a man of your means,,have a good weekend Dean looking forward to the finish on this one,👌👌👍
@@einfelder8262 better to keep your mouth shut and look an idiot, than to open it and remove all doubt
@@einfelder8262you get warranty with repairs depending on the company performing the works
Typical air suspension fault is due to oxidation build up on the connectors .. had a similar fault on a w205 c class , merc as usual recommended by replacing the compressor without checking.. long story short cleaned out the oxidation build up and sealing jt better than factory.. never had a problem since
Maybe the previous owner was towing something really heavy and the pump was working overtime just trying to keep the back suspension up?
Wow a whole tank of fuel !! Thats got to be £150 off the price right there!
New to the Chanel but I like you’re no nonsense approach and will continue watching
Do an air suspension delete... There are kits for around £1k
I was hoping that you wasn't going to wash it yet Dean, I'd love to clean something like that. The before and after shots would be awesome 👌🏼
The compressor piston is normally the culprit, £30 rebuild kit and easy diy for fix 👍🏼
Replaced two rear bellows on 5 series touring for just £80 the pair, decent quality off Ebay, BMW wanted in excess of £2,000 for exactly the same job. And it only took me 3hrs. Oh and that was 18 months with no issues since. Lesson learnt.
Transformation was very satisfying
Hi Dean, I really enjoy your video's and it also served as learnings in one or another way. What happed to the Q7 is there another Video number 3 on it ?
The left rear air strut is bad and makes them all leak . I had a allroad and the corner that leaned was the bag that leaked . I got them at airnot industries and they come with lifetime warrenty . I love these q7 s ❤️
كيف هي عملية الشراء من هذا الموقع صديقي ؟
upgrade to coil spring suspension
The original compressor on my CLS jammed on, which overheated it and resulted in it melting the power connector. It still worked after this but it got progressively worse. If you've ordered a new compressor you should probably still fit it
Hi Dean. Not a car for me. But saying that. I think your on the right track with a repair. Also plenty of suggestion in other comments, on where to go next. See you in the next one. 👍👍
On the land rover ones there’s a big rubber o-ring seal that goes we used soapy water in a spray bottle.
Aftermarket bag kits aren’t to dear if worst comes to worst.
Full tank o juice that's about 1k
Just found you on the Tubes, great video and great production. Thank you!
As everyone said pump is unusually loud and poss pinholes in pipes/bags valves. Good luck love the cheap flip vids also. Great variety on the channel. Excellent work as usual dean. Was looking for a 4.2 petrol v8 FSI Q7 but are rare as hens teeth lately. You did super well for a grand but it’s poverty spec no Xenons no colour mfd or colour mmi to name a few lacking options or likes of Xenons, pan roof etc etc. at least it’s an sline that’s a biggie!
Always start the engine when You refeeling struds. From the lowest position when its goes to one of the levels. Never start kopmressor again. Let him cool down. With vcds on live data You can see temp of the kompressor.
Hi dean car looks cheap as for your presentation you are very good clear and knowledgeable, don’t try to fit everything into one video keep the audience captivated
Suggest you check out mat Armstrong and Chris slix
I will enjoy all you’re videos I would like to see more rebuilds etc even up grades and car trips with mrs and kids keeping it real
Love it when these deals come along!
Looking forward to the next part, believe you have great value and a good car in the long run! 👍
Had the same problem with a merc w205, fuse blown quite a while back replaced it along with the pump because it was seized. After a few months the car came back because it was losing rear hight, replaced both rear airbags and did solved it, it was a tiny leak that wasn't always showing up
Valves on each suspension corner
I think they are called air retention valves
Do a height calibration for the suspension.
I like that you used a turbo nozzle on your pressure washer, normally used to clean patios to clean the Audi up.
It was just as bad as a patio 😂
@@SavingSalvage haha 😆
Replace the Air Suspension Risidual Pressure Valves on the front. first, Also replace the complete pump anyway, because of the small dust and debrid in pump de-hydro system. Should work fine after that. cheers
The pump sounds very noisy Dean. I’d replace it anyway
Good luck with it 😉
Sounds like the Audi tech forgot to check the basics... :D
guess I should've finished the video first *face palm*....
May have been mentioned in previous comments however maybe try a smoke generating machine doo dad (used for vacuum leaks etc) to find the leak(s). Just a thought 😁🤔
What pick up have you got it would be better financially to run the audi if you can get running with too much cost
Dean .
Bmw and audi has the same pump as it being made by one company.
In my case I had sticking sort of dump valve which is inside of the pump under the mesh what stopping moisture.
But when the car sat without doing anything (covid lock down) the valve got stuck and it just a matter of flushing it with carb cleaner/wd40 and presto
30 min job
I had pump and pair of air bags purchased £££ from eurocarparts prior repair
When I took pump off though let see what is wrong with it .
.... after cleaning all start working as it should.
Dean you got a bargain it might be the pump letting by 👍🏻
I've got an a6 allroad same age wouldn't fault the ebay special compressors also if your buying bags but them with the strut there not an easy install on these struts
Good luck and hope it goes well for you, You deserve some luck so see if you get it here with this one ❤ good video m8
Watching this video only to discover that green TVR Cerbera hiding in the back ground of the garage! Best of luck to ye mate and thanks for the vid. Ex Tvr Tuscan S owner
I had one of these cars and it was a lot of trouble. Suspension problems, injector problems, just endless amounts of electrical issues.
I think modern society is too ready to throw stuff away rather than fix it.
Probably too much electronics on modern cars but you’re proof it can be something fairly simple if you can be bothered
@13:00 was screaming 'close the doors and boot', you got there though in the end.
Goes to show that you should never take a car to a Audi dealership if you want a competent diagnosis
