You've seen the race results, but which of these cars would you rather drive home? Let us know in the comments!
I am still waiting to see the Tesla Model S Plaid with the Track Package run on your U-Drag test. But these race competitions have ALL been fun to watch. I especially like that you switch drivers to even out the variables, and run a tie breaker when necessary.
I already own ev6 gt love it so much
Does it really have that much of a power edge. Everyone knows that the current G series M cars are underrated as far as horsepower. I guarantee that the M2 is making at least 500 at the crank
@@deanmcmanis9398 the tesla plaid the iconic poor mans quick car. With no luxury and a non aggresive dope exterior with outdated tail lights. I thought fast cars were supposed to look mean on the road. Not like basic traffic 😂
@@user-my4xu4gf1z Until Tesla's recent price cuts people used to cry about Tesla cars being for the affluent. After the price cuts they're now referred to as poor man's cars. Go figure.
I don't know if I should think The EV6 is crazy impressive (that it kept up brilliantly with an M car), or the M2 is crazy impressive (to keep up with an AWD EV, with almost 100hp difference)!!! Great match-up!
The ev6 gt beat it twice with 50% soc with crap tires
Gaurantee there is not a 100HP difference between the M2 and the EV6. I've owned 3 generations of M3s. The current M car are underrated from the factory on horsepower.
@@bigdi77lol nice avi bro. Ur driving a Kia no one cares. It's a RWD vs AWD. Ur kia isn't beating a SINGLE Xdrive BMW. Also the fact ur little vegan EV lost all its performance after just 2 little rounds 😂😂 love to see it beat the m2 around nurumbring
Lol how salty bmw fanboys can be Kia is a heavy family car despite the hp difference m2 has more hp to wt ratio and m2 is performance car with more aero advantage too
@@AamirKhan-sw2tf are u dumb? WHO expects a RWD car to win a race like this. It's obvious u have no idea how cars work. U just wanna see one thing and remain ignorant. The fact it was so close proves everything.

Wow this M2 performance is impressive. Because this GT is sick. And stupid fast. Great race gents. But that last race mmmmmmm. 👀
For the EV6 Along with your GT button there is also a Maximum Power output mode that will allow you to use all 576HP. To access it car will need to be charged above 70% and while looking at the built in map swip down on your second screen until tou see the option to turn on Maximum Power output mode. Unfortunately the EV6 GT in this video was not at maximum performance.
Trust me theres a huge difference you go from feeling like your going fast to feeling like you're in a rollercoaster.
Rookie mistake by these guys if charge was below 90% at start of 3 pulls
There is also a launch mode if you brake boost… hold the brake while flooring the accelerator, release the brake and hold on
This is a frustrating video by @edmundscars because like most reviewers of the EV6 GT, they don't know how to operate the car and it clearly could be faster.
@@dzfast Yes, there's no excuse for lack of product knowledge when you're a motoring journalist testing cars, it's borderline embarrassing.
Damn low soc and still won nice ev6 gt
Another great U drag video! Please do more ICE vs EV, this seems to get folks all riled up. Makes for interesting comments.
Yes, it does.
after watching lucid and the new Kia ev6 im honestly sold on EVs. Theres no doubt the street racers 10 years from new will all be in EVs

Yes its incredible I love my Kia
@@bigdi77 my car? I own neither. I'm just stating facts since Kia owners have too justify why they bought a Kia 😂 💀 m2 owners could careless. It's RWD vs AWD and the Kia barely won. Around a track the m2 kills it. Plus the m2 has a higher top speed so it's faster too.
I had an 2020 X3M Comp that was my dream car but got totaled. I could not afford a new one at 90k so I got the EV6GT and although it is no BMW for 60K it is a great and fun vehicle. I love ICE and I love EV's why can't we all just get along?
Well said Paul and i think most people understand the strengths and weaknesses of ICE and EV. Unfortunately what you'll see in comment sections on car videos like these will be the trolls/cultists from both sides chiming in on why their preferred platform is superior. I own both a ICE and Ev which seems to be the way most families buying Evs structure their car lineup. Needless to say the further along battery chemistry gets and the more energy dense / quicker charging times improve then it might make some of the naysayers decide the time is right to buy a Ev but you'll always have the DIEHARDS that will never switch and just gotta let them be.
Exactly. I have both ICE and EV and there's ups and downs to both. People always cherry pick their arguments which is sad but yet funny at the same time. The EV6 was just the better car in THIS VIDEO. I'm sure a different scenario the M2 would come up on top. Drag race the EV6 would come up on top etc.
EVs are as fast as they are boring. All torque at launch and then not much emotion after that. It’s a large golf cart shove and then nothing. Objectively it’s more efficient than rising RPMs and gear changes in ICE but subjectively is boring to tears. Plus the M2 can eat a track day. The Kia is a fast people mover.
Kia has realy come a long way, just 10-15 years ago people looked at Kia/Hyundai as your typical run-of-the-mill manufacturer that makes nothing but boring economical cars and were a laughing stock in most people’s eyes, rarely made any noteworthy performance cars and were just a budget brand.
But ever since the Kia Stinger was released into the world in 2017 it completely changed the companies image, and the hiring of Albert Biermann from BMW’s M division has turned these two companies into a premium brand and have become a massive game changer in the automotive world, Kia’s GT cars and Hyundai’s N division have absolutely changed these two South Korean companies into a force that competes with the very best and quickest European cars.
Man oh man what a race, neck to neck till the end😮
Slightly sharped chassis, slightly better brakes: Sounds like Ioniq 5N, can't wait to see that.
EV6 would've won by more in the 1st race but driver was having a nice nap at the start. 😉😉 🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁
EV6 with no doubts
I can’t imagine how the Ioniq 5 N will perform
A lot better for sure...
BMW should bring out M3 Competition for it.
Such excellent match making on this one!
Best race yet in u-drag!
2022 G80 M3 6 MT - Lucky me just driving is fun without chasing times, but the U drag is very cool to watch!
I knew M2 is an amazing car right out the gate, but to keep up with an electric car with 576 hp is insanely amazing! Great job M2!
The ev6 was at 50% soc with crap tires they even said that but you must’ve missed it
lol, So if that’s what one has to worry about ( I.e. how much SOC I have at any given point, and what kind of tires the manufacturer decides to use on my 4 door sedan), then I rather have an M2 (proper sports car) with almost no gas in tank, and still keep up with a claimed 576 hp EV .
@arymonem You must have watched a different video -- the BMW did not keep up.
@@Mandolin1944 let’s put it this way, we could have a half sleep 12 year old kid behind that 576 hp EV, and not only beat 99% of cars out there but also embrace some super cars in a simple race. Every non EV car comes down to how well you lunched, and how accurate you changed gears (huge factors). In an EV, smash and bash. Of course you knew all this, right! So yes, I believe i watched the right video. I didn’t think that M2 had any business being there, but I’m glad it proved me wrong.
Agreed. I remember the good old days with manual trans, skinny tires, no anti-lock brakes, and no launch control.@@arymonem
Gimme that M2.
Once EV batteries energy density improves, ICE vehicles will lose their weight advantages from a performance aspect. Kind of sad, but technology must move on.
Why is that sad? We get advanced tech today and not 50 years from now.
@@xaionik because ICE cars are kewl, duh
@@xaionik Well a lot of people were car guys before consumer EV were available and it was the stuff we grow up on.

S58 is such a great engine. Imagine if it had a tune, down pipe and some e60 that’s a extra 250 hp
One heck of a race 🏁 😳
What happen on the last run???
Can't tune the ev6gt.
It definitely wasn't close. M2 got a biiiig jump and the EV6 caught em
M2 also braked early as hell and gave up its biggest advantage.
These drivers are horrendous, turns off traction control ..for horrible start with EV6 which is hard to do.
The EV6 should smoke the M2 off the line and the reason why it didn't is because you turned off stability control which allows the tires to spin off the line.
btw Edmunds i could be mistaken, but i think the Kia Engineers said back at the launch of the EV6 that the GT doesn't actually DERATE it's power as much as the base models would when the SOC drops. yeah (although it invariably depletes the pack faster) the power curve has been expressly designed to remain flat as long as possible. again, i could be mistaken about this so you may want to investigate. hint: since it's all EGMP underneath, what the KGT offers is a PREVIEW of "some" of the tech strategies found in the forthcoming I5N, and since it directly wears the Hyundai name (and an "N" badge) the intent with the next model is to obviously "crank everything to 11".
They discovered the secret method for BMW launches! My RWD 2018 340i MPPSK is tuned and the best launches are in Manual mode and actually starting in second gear and once you get moving slap it back into auto mode. Shaves quite a bit of time off since first gear is unusable with the increased power, but the trans tune is better at nailing the best shifts than manual mode.
EVs battle.
Next year 2024, U-Drag race battle: 2024 Kia EV 6 GT vs 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N ?.🤔
I test drove one recently and at 6ft 235 ridiculous how much roomy this was for a family of four with 2 decent size teens not having a transmission tunnel running through the floor was so weird , but being able to mash the pedal but still get great mileage and a room was nice .
A Kia. Damn.
Idiots still think this is 1980.
Has the EV6 GT been run in maximum performance mode? Bring a Ford Powerboost to the track and top off the Kia, then set to max performance mode to warm up the battery.
Don't think so, I have tried to comment on it for 3 drag races and how to enable it. It could make a little difference, but under 68% SOC then you can't enable it.
So in this drag race it wouldn't work.
I ran mine in Max power mode at 85% SoC on unprepped surface and it turned 11.39@120.45mph with a 3.39 second (including 60' rollout) 0-60 on PSAS4's. At least, per my Dragy.
I love the M2!

Hmm this test favours the KIA, one corner and two long straights! However at our local race track with 10corners the M2 was 3s a lap faster then Model 3 performance, in fact the Megane RS was lapping faster 😊
I'm surprised. I really thought the M2 was going to have it all day.
BMW M4 Comp (2-door/AWD) U-drag time 31 seconds flat. KIA EV6 GT U-drag time 33.7 seconds. once you more closely compare Apples to Apples things change up dramatically (-2.7 second difference).
@@phillyphil1513you know that GT is not a car for a drag race. It is a GT car.
Incredible performance from the M2, shouldn't have been close against an ev of that caliber with over 550hp and crazy ev torque. M2 is amazing.
That EV is a Thousand pounds heavier than the BMW.
@@rodismrnobody indeed the ev is heavier and it showed in the corner. The reason I think the m2 did so well is because it's not built for straight line 1/4 mile style racing. It's built for corners, canyons, time attack hard corner tracks. So for a rear wheel drive to stay even close to a performance ev with AWD that is specifically designed to go very fast in a straight line is pretty amazing in my opinion.
BMW M4 Comp (2-door/AWD) U-drag time 31 seconds flat. KIA EV6 GT U-drag time 33.7 seconds. once you more closely compare Apples to Apples things change up dramatically (-2.7 second difference).
I’d take the M2. A proper sports car with a straight six cylinders thermal engine. ♥️♥️👍
Until you have to fill up at $90 a pop in Cali every couple of days of spirited driving
Everything has its price. The happiness to drive a straight 6 full of power and torque and delicious to drive is a thing that has its price. If you’re looking for moving from point A to point B for cheaper, then go for a diesel Renault. It will do the job no problem! But if you’re looking for a certain joy of driving a straight 6 then you’ve to accept to pay the price.
When launching the g80 platform you don’t need to shift back to auto mid race it manually shifts when you activate launch control
Please explain why to me that you had to hit the transmission back over to drive instead of leaving it in sports mode where you get the fastest shifting out of the BMW
This achieved the quickest result. When using launch control, the M2 will only auto upshift, but won't downshift under braking (then once you've braked defaults to manual upshifts again). The transmission is slow to respond to paddle commands so it would not downshift as quick as we needed, and then would run into the rev limiter when we'd try to upshift. Bumping it over to drive helped alleviate the shifting issues to a degree, but still wasn't optimal. Infuriating experience to be honest. But also we recognize that the Udrag format is unique and most M2 owners would probably not run into these same issues on a regular circuit or drag strip.
i think you guys need to do more similar cars against each other... Ie, SL63 versus M8 convertible, or C8 against 911, or M3 against gulia... etc..
Cheers guys
Bulbous EV should hold a flame to lightweight sports car with similar power. You need a test with more technical twisty before powering out.
I think it’s hilarious that an electric Kia beats a bmw that has been worked on and improved for much longer than Evs have been around. Crazy how much evs have improved and I’m exited to see how much better they will get

Edit- Via carwow they both did an 11.9 in their quarter mile.
Thing is as shown in the carwow race between the tesla m3p vs i4 . The BMW keeps pulling harder and gapping the m3p more and more the further It goes. BMW utilizes its power more efficiently not all at once.
Ask a 100 guys and see which car they prefer. There's much more to driving than a straight line. No way a KIA "beats" a BMW M2.
@@d.khoung359that's not just a straight line test. I would choose the EV6 over the M2 any day. Most of the people don't go on the race track so the kia is a perfect combination of preference and practicality. And it's cheaper to buy and maintain.
The feeling of speed and “cool factor” in an EV is soul less and uninviting. I’ll keep my ICE for the weekend and the EV to drive to work and the grocery store.
Anyone who's owned a Beemer knows the reason how M2 with 453 hp is almost neck and neck with a 576 hp instant torque ev.
M2 boys have left the chat lol 😅
Please do Z06 vs E-Ray.
Put the regen into 0. It looked like it was set at 3. Manually use it when braking.
As far as I know, from my EV6 AWD 325hp, it does not loose any power even if it has gone down from 100 to 50% battery...
This was all down to driver ability
If it had full charge and battery temperature button was clicked would of have full 577 , now they didn’t even have full power as full 577 is up to 70% of battery. 70 down is reducing power so you won’t be getting that same effect , plus it weights 2.5ton so way lower power to weight ratio and still beats easily
I am more impressed with the kia's Gs than speed.
When you compare pros and cons IC vehicles are still way better than EVs.
Depends on what your preferences are.
To me an ICE car has an advantage in range and time of refuelling only… and in my daily driving routines it has zero relevance.
I have no need for towing or visiting a racetrack, and very rarely do longer trips.
So to me, an EV have far more pros than cons compared to an ICE car.

Kia EVGT- 8:20
BMW M2- 7:38
The bmw m2 is RWD vs an AWD EV. Couldnt be further from the truth have u not seen EVs around an actual real track? Rimac Nevera had 1,800 hp and couldn't even beat a porsche gt3 550hp lap time. Whenever someone does a lap time in an EV they only show 1 lap aswell I guarantee any EV would overheat or severely degrade in performance during their 2nd n 3rd laps. This Kia degraded after the 2nd short little round. 😂
Companies have tried and maybe a couple still are, but people are wowed by straight-line acceleration more than lightweight nimble handling so it's a struggle to sell and make profits with such products like the Miata and 86/BRZ or hot Golf, Mini, Civic etc variants.
The m2 is RWD.. hardly a fair performance test. For a test that was this close its obvious any Xdrive BMW smokes it. The fact the Kia severely degraded its performance after the 2nd round 😂 classic

The improved "kia" you talk about already exists, it's the ioniq 5 N. It would be interesting to do the same test with the 5N.
@Edmunds Cars, when you race EV’s , you HAVE to put the outside temperature and the current state of charge. The EV6 GT ONLY pushes out 576 hp when you have clicked the button for “maximum performance” and only works between 100% down to 80% battery while in GT mode. lower than 80%, and the car exhibits a gradual decline in horsepower from 79%-20s battery charge. Not a big decline, but it is a slight one nevertheless. Since you are a journalistic company, I recommend you update your Standard Operating Procedures to ensure you test EV’s during their optimum spec range, and also publicly state those variables.
Can we all agree that on the 2nd run, the EV is 2.5 cars ahead on the turn, but tied when the switch the camera ? So BEEMER boys don't cry or what?!??!
In a dramatic role reversal, the KIA got HOT and the M2 got FUGLY and then the EV6 gave that M2 a real run for its money!! Jokes aside, I’m truly impressed by and happy for KIA, what a time to be around for the car enthusiasts and industry overall!
Woooow 50% battery and still spank the M car in all 3 if it wasn't for driver mistakes
A Kia.. Yes A Kia taking down a M car. And they’re just getting started. Imagine what EVs will be capable of in 5-10 years. ICE had 120 year head start and have gotten walked in like 10 years.
😂😂😂 you sound crazy
These EV fans SOUND INSANE
Electric motors have been around forever buddy. They only recently put them in cars because people think that will save the environment. When you get hit with a $60k bill to replace your battery or 3 hour charge times on a road trip you’re going to see why nobody with a brain wants an electric car.

Sucks that you lose power in EVs as the battery loses juice even at 55% your getting less power. But with internal combustion engines, even with 2% gas left in the tank you still get full power.
This actually varies a lot by ev. The kia holds its power for a long ways into the battery pack.
Depends on the EV. Taycan holds its power all the way down below 20%
It depends very heavily on ambient temperatures.@@gregkramer5588
That's nasty that the BMW gets off the line first. I know it's lighter, but fuck that M2 is sprintin'
Hold up, m2's weigh that much now 😢.
0:33 - from the physical specs on screen, this ended about as close as i expected. now just have to maybe RERUN this test with a better matched M4 Coupe. people overlook (35+ years on from the first M models) that BMW now offers basically 3 different trim levels of M cars. the entry M is now just the "RWD base" but there's also M Competition (AWD) and M CSL variants (Superlight) each of course adding increase levels of power and chassis tuning...
however what shouldn't be lost on anyone is that despite the EV6's extra weight, it DOES technically cheat by having an extra +125hp/+125tq and cheat by being able to put this extra power to the ground via Dual Motors (AWD). those with good memories will recall Kia's original marketing from back 2 years ago already showed it OUT DRAGGING several Super Cars (except for a Mclaren).
we all know who is the better driver 🙄
Pretty good for the EV, if drag racing is you're big thing. Quite a big horsepower disadvantage for the BMW, perhaps a race on a racetrack might prove the opposite.
Big jump in the beginning and still loses being 1,000 lbs lighter!
Yikes this is actually quite disturbing!!! But I would still take the ICE for consistent performance and no drama with Hyundai battery replacement cost disaster like we have been seeing in Canada recently.
“Hyundai battery cost” that’s every EV.. it’s going to be expensive if damage yk cause to an EV battery, it’s not just Hyundai..
2 batteries over 2 years and 50K sold? I wonder what BMW's motor defect rate is...oh...wait. These were not defective, they ran over something heavy in the road...
Combustion is doomed 😂
So are all the little black kids mining for cobalt.

I was impressed by the M2 with the EV6 GT’s 100hp advantage and instant torque I didn’t think it would so close.

@@bigdi77 I’ve actually been in a Kia EV6 GT and it’s crazy quick and fast off the line and at the time I would have said it was faster than a M3 having been in both that’s why I was surprised the M2 kept it so close.
Even with them knowing they were going to race, the Kia EV6 is still bad on range. Hopefully they get more range and an LFP battery to not lose power as range drops. That’s why I wouldn’t buy an Kia/Hyundai. Hoping they can fix it by the time the Ioniq 5 N comes out. I’d be down to get that one. Also Kia need to make their cars more customize and track focused like the N Division from Hyundai.
Hey guys, the GT is a 5 seats family car with a lot of space in the back and a quiet better ride comfort and in total at least faster than a BMW M2/3/4. What are you looking for??
Either M2 jumped first start, OR EV6 missed first start..... lol
