How to Start Writing a Non-Fiction Book

- Have a book idea but you're wondering how to start writing a non-fiction book? Sitting down to write doesn't work without a plan. And, writing when the inspiration hits only works for the short term. In this video, author, and founder of Book Launchers, Julie Broad explains what you need to do to start writing a non-fiction book so you create a compelling book, that you finish, and that reaches your goals.
Writing a great non-fiction book starts with clarity of who the book is for, what the impact will be on the reader, and get clear on your own goal as an author. What is the impact you want your book to have on a reader? Then, you need clarity on who that reader is. This is not about demographics. And when you have that you will be able to figure out what makes you unique and what perspective you offer that is not on the market already.

As usual, I absolutely loved this video! I think my greatest writing monster is fear of judgment. Ironically, when I've shared my story to various live audiences, I've never felt that fear, never felt judged! I need help!!!

Speaking my language - doubt and inspiration. It’s a vicious cycle. I feel like I’m forever planning out books I want to write, or starting and stopping one but never TRULY finishing it.

@@BookLaunchers - Agreed! I believe one of them is Fear of Failure for sure. I was told from a young age that my writing would never amount to anything...even as a published writer, I still struggle with that one every day.

I think I get stuck between the ego monster and the imposter syndrome monster. But then they balance each other out sometimes and create a pasta-monster. And I love pasta. Now I’m off track.

You are in good company that's for sure. Get to know the monsters and bring them along for the ride, but let them know they don't get to drive.
Hey! My friend wrote a book, and he didn't use any of the advice that you mentioned. Nevertheless, his book has been for sale on the Internet for only one year, and already he has sold two books.

I have finished a collection of poetry, and I have absolutely no idea what to do next. I typed it all up on microsoft word and the next thing I thought of was you.
Is there a playlist, you can create, that shows the kinds of formats we need to type the book, which publishers give the best quality book v. profit, and where to get an ISB or IBM? or I forgot. you see? I forgot. and I KNOWWW you have those amazing videos out there, I would ...just...lazily, ask if you'd make a playlist.
