    You're talking about a 2021 but showing a 2014, brilliant

Great video about the N55 engine. I can attest that I've got some of the issues you mentioned - Valve cover - white smoke, water pump, thermostat and DME failure. All within 12 months. E93 -335i 110k miles but its a joy to drive..

Would love to hear your thoughts on the N55 vs the B58, market is is full of 135i/140i /335i/340i/435i/440i etc with only a few grand apart. Maybe a video with the pros and cons on going cheap on a n55 or if you think extra dosh well spent on the b58

Probably a silly question.. are these issues still relevant to the lci 2016 m135i?

I’m currently contemplating going to see a 14 plate M135i to use as an everyday car. I stumbled across your channel whilst looking for common issues, can I say your videos covering these cars and engines have been second to none. The car has 3 previous owners and a comprehensive FBMWSH and in unmolested form.
From your videos these engines and Zf8 speeds are pretty solid unless you abuse them. It’s also good to know some failure points that I could address as preventative maintenance so I’m never left stranded.
I’m quiet familiar with the modern BMW software and coding that’s used as I work for Rolls Royce in Goodwood, it’s quiet simple stuff decently written and straight forward to diagnose.
This would end up being my first BMW, had plenty of import Japanese cars and other German cars such as Audis but find they’re a bit uninspiring and sometimes difficult to live with on a daily basis. (The Audis that is).

So do I ! One of the best raw performance engines and you wouldn’t even think it has a turbo as it sounds like a naturally aspirated engine. It’s a incredible engine, now I see why Bmw continued the S55

I had a 2013 335i xdrive with catless down pipe and tune. Sold it at 100k miles. Only issues I had were the ofhg, oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket, and rear wheel bearings.

How about the Valvetronic servo motor clicky noise during unlocking or ignition. Mine does it once in a while after car has been sitting , but doesn’t seem to affect performance . Is it something worth worrying about , I just got the car and I am not too keen on opening up the valve cover. Thanks

Hey I was wondering if you can help because you have soo much knowledge with these cars. I have a BMW M135i F21 N55 engine. My cars smoking or water vaping. The weather is cold I'm just wondering if that's the case. It's not leaking water or oil. But the smoke seems excessive. What could the cause be? Any help would be appreciated

So, if there is an oil leak with smell is probably from the valve cover and if doesn't smell is probably the oil cooler gasket?

    • @BMWDoctor
      @BMWDoctor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Never heard of rod bearing failure on the newer m performance engines. Only on the first Gen N55 engines that was a common issue, I know Bmw revised everything on these m performance ones as they use the S55 internals therefore the failure rate was brought to 0 that’s exactly why I bought this version and not the first version.

@@BMWDoctor by ‘newer’ engines what exactly do you mean? At which point in time did BMW start putting the newer engines in M135i? I’m curious because I want to buy a f20 M135i myself.

@@BMWDoctor Hi mate, great video. How common are the spun rod bearings on the 2010 N55 models in the UK? Recently got myself an 80k miles N55 and was aware of other common faults but only just came accross forums and videos of the spun rod bearing issue that causes engine failures and getting really worried. OFHG has been replaced 5k miles ago, had a stage 1 remap for 2 years, now stock. Appreciate your response and advice from your experience. Thanks

    • @n.prince2458

Not true. Depends on car and maintenance. Do you care to share what year and version you have and what issues you are dealing with?
Did you purchase the car from a private owner with maintenance receipts or did you purchase it from a dealer?
You clearly heard the N55's weak areas, in which, all cars have at least a few.
If you purchase superior aftermarket components and upkeep with proper maintenance, what would be the issue?
Some components are simply service items. Do you have a maintenance checklist or have you just resorted to just complaining?
Anyone on the internet can make a sweeping remark with no receipts.
To me, the performance N55 is the most reliable recent BMW of all time! It's like an updated N52.
