No he didn’t if you listen to what he says that as an album machine and soul isn’t good but as songs the majority of them are good. Funnily he also said he thought this song and the album had too much rock
Funnily a lot of fans at the time said it was his best single release for a long time yet just because he later dismissed it so did they. I quite like this song and its production values were much more superior to the lacklustre demos we got with Sacrifice and his poor man’s nine inch nails impersonation he’s been doing for the last 20 years
Numan himself basically says that by this point he'd lost control of his music career and was just doing whatever the record company told him would make a hit, and hating it. It's all very slick but Gary has called the whole album "a total piece of shit". It's interesting to contrast this to Sacrifice, where he in effect quit the music "business" and just went into his home studio to record and produce an album of songs exactly how he wanted, all by himself. Production wise, it's a bit rough in places because he did it all himself in a shed, and this is pre modern DAW era too, but musically it is a great album full of brilliant songs that set the template for him moving forward.
@@calebfuller4713 I think "Machine and Soul" actually a very fun and guilty pleasure album 😄His deadpan rap actually works well in "Poison" And in his live album "Dream Corrosion" "Machine and Soul" & "Generator" actually very good live song :)
Compared to his most famous and still admired early android years with that distinct Numan Synth Sound from 79-82, this is fookin awful . Its really is cringe worthy ! He later admitted it was his worst period
