2024? Was looking through all my Gary Numan albums 12 inch’s , singles etc.. ❤Gary has returned to making music in the most amazing way!! I luved him when I was 12 and 44 yrs later nothing will ever change .. Gary your brilliant!! Luv LA 🇨🇦🎹🎶
Underrated, underappreciated album. Every song is great. I love the tribal, organic feel. The densely layered Linn drum + CR78 programming. Great stuff.
I wasn't a fan of this album. After the understated style of Paul Gardiner & the excellence of Pino Palladino, I thought Joe Hubbard's bass was just too much. I saw him on this tour at Hammersmith which was my first and it was a good concert but this album is there with Fury and Machine & Soul as rather forgettable.
@@josephkissel6062 it's really not that strange as when most people hear 'Cars' or even Tubeway Army's 'are friendselectric' I think they think of the 80's even though they were 1979releases I know i do being a wee boy in the earliest of the1980s🔥🔥 🎹🔥🎹🔥🎹🔥
Why has every song got a comment about this unique wildly creative and authentic artist being ‘under rated’ ?! He seems to be extremely successful with a loyal following going back decades!!
because he's not well recognized. Everyone knows 'Cars', but not his other songs. He literally pioneered a new genre in music, but not many people know this. They just throw him in with everyone else 80s

@@tadhgkilcummins I'm reading your linked review of this period and enjoying it - I didn't know there was an unheard Nelson mix and an unseen professional shot of the Warriors tour concert. The record is a mixed bag but the title track is a complete triumph as far as I'm concerned! Ok, I see it's on the list of top singles as well...
And here we see Gary Nu man, doing all that in a Lockheed trainer jet lmao. The training distinction markings really do kinda vibe with the song though ngl.
I don't see whats wrong with this album. Pop fans are fickle, diversity is the spice of life and Mr Numan has never failed "in my opinion." I've loved all his work. Conventionalism can be sooooo limited.
Honestly he has the same style and that's why I like his new and old stuff. Maybe someone can do a remix of his current stuff and just add funky bass lol
It's not that it was a bad album per se, but his transition from a rock basis to a funk basis alienated a lot of fans, including myself. Pretty much all the synth pop pioneers wandered off into the long grass as the 80s progressed with the exception of Depeche Mode. It's different looking back on a career over decades to actually being there when a new album comes out and you're like, "not sure about this at all".
Maybe his most mature album musically , i think the image took a bit away from the music , he should have stayed with a bit more alien replicas looking
The best electro-pop ever made. I only knew the "standards" from Gary Numan and just recently became interested again in hearing what else he did apart from "Cars" etc. Loving it!
so gone back to the eighties, best move ever, don't follow the fashion gary, do what you do best, now drop the jazzy stuff and go back to tubeway army :)
Pretty naff video to watch these days but I love the song. Before the hate I have love Gary since for ever went to see him I Manchester last year 2022 part of my bucket list.
He was never out of box to become a pilot of power craft... No shitty Cessna... Along with Bruce Dickinson... These 2 were ahead of the crowd in the genre of sex d and r and r... Respect..🙌
He has flown his own Harvard / AT-6 / Texan / SNJ at airshows as far back as the 1980s. This T-33 Silver Star / Shooting Star was owned and piloted by one Ormond Haydon-Baillie and appeared on the airshow circuit for several years into the late 1980s.
This is a mystery that has perplexed many an old-skool Numan fan for years. He's always chosen some dodgy images or themes at times, but his was one of the worst. His hair loss was really starting to show, and why he chose this very cheezy Mad Max look I'll never know, although I suppose it was trendy at the time. What made it worse though, was the fact that Mad Max was a really grungey, scrappy character, but Numan's "version" was way too clean looking, with just-out-of-the-wrapping leathers and a so-obvious fake tan. Cringe factor 10. I like most of the Warriors album, and many of the non-album Warriors era tracks, but it was the end (for me), as he'd started to really lose his way / focus, hence this weirdly disconnected video / song.
@@nickcarroll5034 Actually, I agree, it was the image that sucked, and I did like many of the songs in the album and b-sides. I do maintain though, that for me at least, this was the last album I paid any attention to, other than a track or two on Outland.
It could have worked had the music been darker and the videos more like what he'd do for the Pure album. Either way this era for Gary was pretty cool musically. Haven't heard anything like it before.
Not only can he write cool music but he races cars and fly's vintage airplanes. Go Gary go!
flys own jet in video, ultimate flex.
Still here in 2024, love you Gary 🖤
the old music is simply a work of lyric art.
Simply one of the most naturally gifted artists ever to have lived and some how still remain ahead of our time and endlessly COOL 💜

Timeless. Really.
Got that right.

Underrated, underappreciated album. Every song is great. I love the tribal, organic feel. The densely layered Linn drum + CR78 programming. Great stuff.
Excellent
Numan still hates the CR-78 (for programming reasons in the past) , but in my opinion the CR-78 is still the greatest drum machine ever made.
I wasn't a fan of this album. After the understated style of Paul Gardiner & the excellence of Pino Palladino, I thought Joe Hubbard's bass was just too much. My favourite song of the 1980s. Top 20 in Britain, "Warriors" should have been a massive hit around the world. Things rarely get this cool.
Don't forget was also a top 20 hit in Ireland as well 🤘🏻
He has such a ghostly etherical android like singing voice. It's hauntingly beautiful and calming. Way ahead of his time.
Numan so great loved his stuff since tubeway army
i didn't care for I, Assassin, and stoped there...totally missed out on this gem, until tonight!

"I fell for so long for you ... " and no bottom in sight! The chorus of "Warriors" still gives me chills and the verses are obscure and beautiful ...
I bought a lot of Numan on vinyl from op-shops in the 90's. Serious pop.

Radio 1 abandoned him but the fans didnt .
pleasantly surpised at all the positive comments, iwas under the impression this era was not well liked even by fans. i love it though

This owes a lot to Bill Nelson (legend)
