100% true on employer based immigration. That was my family's experience back in the late 80s and early 90s. We found ourselves stranded 2,000 miles from home, no legal status to stay but in a court case against the employer so unable to leave, and INS knocking on our door. In the end, the company won because they had deeper pockets to appeal and my parents were financially set back 10 years. No company should be able to bring someone across without the person first having a green card.

sounds like the immigration system in canada & australia is a good model for us to adopt here going forward .. however it doesn't address the problem of what to do with the millions that either snuck in or overstayed their visas .. clearly we can't continue with the current unregulated chaos and potential security issues ....

I am so disappointed by the limited conversation on ideologies. Hope part two can deal with how to move forward ecology policies. But & thank you for mentioning that most politicians don't have an accurate idea of what this country actually is...

From personal experience I can agree that conservatives have not sought out or engaged technical people, almost as a matter of pride. It has also resulted in a lack of loyalty to their natural patronage pyramid. Even worse than liberals in that. We need new nationalism for enlightened conservatives that is not business and Reaganesque.

point well taken .. no society can remain mortgaged to the past and expect to solve the problems of the future .. the framework developed in the 1790s will need to be revised to reflect the reality of today .. we have found ways to re-invent without getting bogged down in partisan bickering and paralysis .. time for a new vision ...
