    Thank you Sarah.
As a veteran, who joined because I believe in our country, I applaud you.
I began life as a Democrat but quickly changed to an Independent. I felt having to vote for a party rather than the country violates my firm beliefs. I stand for the USA and our Constitution.
I vote for the candidate who can "... preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

As a lifelong Democrat, that was one of the most helpful interviews for me to understand where rational Republicans are at right now. 😮Why are we worrying about any of this stuff?! If Daffy Don was required to have a psychological evaluation as a prerequisite to being a member of the nuclear launch sequence team his candidacy would be over!😬All of those individuals are currently required to be evaluated EXCEPT the Commander-in-Chief!!! A total failure to understand how political parties are really the problem here. Mark Elias fought against ranked Choice voting. The founding fathers warned against the problem we have now. Just search "founding fathers warning against political parties factions".
Sarah and Marc have been thinking from a partisan lens their whole life so much that they do not have the ability to understand this. Independents make up about a third of the electorate and are more able to see this clearly.
To make this work we would have to have public funding of elections and the media campaigns where the media are forced to give equal free access to political candidates.
Only small dollar donations should be allowed, and anything over $100 should be taxed 100%.
Endless gerrymandering and anti gerrymandering lawsuits is easy to end with all states having all representatives in at large districts, combined with rank Choice voting is far better than we have now. Districts are obsolete with modern travel and telecommunications.

Really 😂 when did they stand behind us in 2008 during the housing collapse? Instead bailed out everyone responsible for the collapse. While families that were preyed upon were kicked to the streets. I loved how they stood with rail workers and sided with the big rail companies and forced Americans back to work that were exercising their union rights. I love how when coming to office in 2008 we were told day 1 they would codify Roe... And with their filibuster safe super majority walked away from that because as quoted we have more important things to handle.😂 I love how they stand behind us I mean just ask Flint, Michigan and Lahaina, Maui and East Palestine, Ohio how much our Democrats stand behind them as they attach their measle funding to bills sending billions to foreign wars. I love how they claim to behind us but are the ones calling for censorship to the tune of creating a govt agency to approve what's true and what's not.... Because that's never gone wrong I mean never in the history of this planet has the group trying to censor ever been on the correct side of history...😂😂 Ya they really are for us .... Democracy is the worst form of government, aside from all of the other forms that have been tried. Democracy is people of average intelligence making the most important decisions, since they outnumber everyone else. It's only through democracy that someone like Trump could ever be elected. Wouldn't it be best to have the most intelligent people making the decisions, instead? The problem with that system is that it is apparently very difficult to put it in place and make it work.

I’m a Democrat but I really enjoyed listening to such a logical, intelligent conservative who can see the republican presidential candidate does not have good policies and only cares about himself, not his party or constituents. He wants power and i can’t even imagine the ways he may misuse that power. I’m sure the first thing he would do is have all charges against him dropped, then go after anyone that he fells is against him.

BUT THEY NEVER WILL MENTION THIS:
Some of Kamala Harris’s incriminating history: She falsely claimed President Trump wanted to deny women IVF treatment, but he said he wanted the insurance co.’s to pay for it. She continually lied about Joe Biden being sharp and fit for office. When rioters were burning our cities, she said “They are not going to let up, nor should they. She set up a Bail Fund for rioters who were destroying our cities. Supports Sanctuary Cities. Compared ICE agents to the KKK. Wants to eliminate the Electoral College. Called the Jussie Smollet Hoax “A modern day Lynching” Said that to combat Climate Change, we need to reduce the population. Backs publicly funded healthcare for illegals. Called the border wall a waste of money. Supported $807 billion legislation that would provide tuition free college to students nationwide. Co-sponsored legislation banning offshore drilling. She praised LA mayor’s $150 million cut in police funding. Said it is wrong to think that more police officers make communities safer. Sponsored bill giving grants to replace current buses with electric ones. She said Biden’s record high gas prices are a “price to pay for democracy”. Supported cancelling the Keystone pipeline. Supported banning plastic straws. Sponsored bill expanding vote-by-mail and early in-person voting during 2020 election. Sponsored bill allowing DHS to place minor illegal aliens into the care of adult ones. Sponsored bill to replace cash bail systems, and a bill to advance the Green New Deal. Requires Id’s to get into rallies but is against requiring ones to vote. Co-sponsored Bernie Sanders Medicare for All Act. Sponsored bill providing illegals with a right to legal representation. Fascinating analysis of the last 9 years. I’m a 61 yr old woman who aligned with the Republican Party at the age of 12. Grew up in a deeply evangelical and also politically minded family. My dad ran for State Representative in Mass in 1978. Feel like I fall into almost all of Sarah’s categories for leaving the party in 2016. I left and in the first wave for one reason (or several) and then have moved closer and closer to all the Democrat Party policies as the years have progressed; very much along the waves that Sarah described. Would love to sit and talk with her to share my Republican exit story - complicated by the religious aspect and my own life story. (Families can really have quite a stranglehold over each other when it’s so entwined with religion and it’s an identity vs a belief.)
Listening to conservatives who see the real and imminent danger of MAGA has very much helped me know that it’s not me - it’s them (MAGA) and also has provided a great source of healing from the hurt of the utter betrayal of the Republican Party and what I thought it stood for in the past.

I agree Trump should never be allowed to be president ever again for starting the insursurrection on the Capital Building. He said that meet me at the White House, and we will all go down to the Capital Building. He didn't go down there with them. He watched it on TV inside the White House. All the While his people destroyed our country's Capital Building. He let them do it because he wanted to let his people destroy our country Capital Building. They destroyed a lot of important things and hurt people, and killed some of the people. They totally destroyed our country Capital Building. He let them do it. Because he said meet me at the White House, and we will all go down to the Capital Building
He chickened out and sent his people to go down there to get inside the capital building and totally destroyed important things in the capital building. They hurt a lot of people, and they killed some of them. He should be charged with them killing people you could lock him up for killing people inside the Capital Building. He could have stopped it at any time, but he didn't. He should be charged with people getting hurt and killed. He should be charged for doing that. But what gets me nothing is being done with Donald Trump. Because he started the whole thing. Please put Trump in jail where he belongs for letting his people go down to the Capital Building and hurt a lot of people, and kill some of them. But they totally destroyed our capital building. And it was all because of Trump. It was his because of Trump that his people destroyed our the Trump should be charged with doing that telling his people to go down to the Capital Building. So it's Donald Trump fault that his people did what theyd. So charged Trump for doing what he did. I'm so sorry for it being so long, but I wanted to tell everyone about what Trump did. So, I charged Trump for the crimes of destroyed the capital building..

I am 69 yo female who has been a republican, an independent, a democrat, and independent again and now a democrat. I am not committed to any one party (learned that hard way). I am committed to whats best for the country, my friends and family and myself. The first pres I voted for Jimmy Carter and I was republican. :-)

Wonderful show! Having known Trump in New York in the 1970s, I am a “Never Trumper,” so much so that I checked myself out of the hospital after knee surgery for the day and wobbled on crutches to the nearest consulate to cast my vote for Biden. The previous election, I , like so many others, thought he never had a chance, so I wasn’t terribly concerned. Never was a Hilary fan, but in my mind, anyone BUT Trump would have been better. You can imagine my horror when I woke up to learn that the election had been called for Trump! As an expat who follows American politics very closely, nothing that Trump does surprises me. That being said, the mass insanity of June 6th, the flagrant corruption in all our branches of government, and the cowardliness of our media have not only left me mystified but in true despair.

    Thank you for that, Sarah!
It takes a lot of courage for moderates to run for office. We need to support them so we can have conversations and compromise again.
Thanks again Sarah for your explanations....so helpful!

But I think that watching Joe Biden heal the carnage, and watching Kamala tacking center and building a bigger tent, has taught me the value of compromise.

I’m an ex long time Republican …I enjoy the Bulwark podcast with JVL, Tim Miller and Sarah Longwell. Like them Trump ended my relationship with the Republican Party…
While they may return after he’s gone…I’m not going back. I don’t think in my lifetime, they can clean the MAGA stench out of that party. This is because the non MAGA republicans couldn’t stand up to him. I don’t want those wimps in charge either…their (lack of) actions have proven they’re not leaders…

Hello? That is illegal and an existential threat. The Armed Services Committee must immediately meet next week to review the nuclear chain of command requirements and change revise them to include the POTUS😮
