Polls tell me that for folks that answer their phone when strangers call them, the election is close. I do not know who those people are and how representative they are of the electorate. I haven't answered my phone when a stranger called in years.
Pod Save America is a great podcast. I watch it every day as well as Democracy Docket.
Pondering Politics is good too. And Thom Hartmann has been covering politics a long time and often tells the backstory.

Dan you need to blast this all over the web. In Las Vegas Trump said "I DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU, I JUST WANT YOUR VOTE." He said it. This is came right from him! People need to remember this at the ballot box.

I have always had deep respect for Marc Elias and Dan Pfeiffer- ever since I learned of them- and am so appreciative of their superb & steady work for democracy. I subscribe to and listen to Pod Save America religiously and strongly recommend it to anyone who is concerned about trumpism and wants to know how they can best *help*- not just hand-wring. This was a phenomenal conversation- so great to get the history of Dan and PSA. A great conversation taking stock and then looking forward.

The media got Trump elected once because it mostly cares for clicks and subs, not at all about their "both sidesism" coverage which is a disservice to the country. They're trying hard to get him in again.

This Eric Hovde that's is running for Senate in Wisconsin is a Republican and a CEO of a billion dollar bank base in California and is being sued by his own nursing home because of elderly abuse and wrongful death. His own nursing home is sueing him. Plus Eric Hovde says that elderly in nursing homes wants to take their voting rights away because he says they only have only 5 to 6 months life expectancy. So is he having these elderly killed. Makes you think about that. Plus Hovde blames single mothers for lacking morals and ethics. How can he judge a mother when you have the guys that rape and get women pregnant and run away without any responsibility to her or the child they made as well. How crazy is he to make judgements on mothers. Plus Hovde Criticized alcohol sales saying booze should only be available to people who brew or distill it themselves. How are they to make money them. Crazy!!!. Hovde wants to raise health care prices for people with obesity. Another crazy rich Republican taking money from people HE feels don't deserve affordable health care. It sounds like he want to kill the elderly and people and people who are obese to not afford health care. It's like he's saying these people don't need to live and vote. Unbelievable!!!!!!! Hovde is another millionaire MAGA Republican. 😡😡😡

Something has changed in mainstream media. We don’t have newspapers anymore and the survivors are doing anything to stay relevant. But at what cost? Why are some stories not covered?
They been bought by the competition. Just like business being bought and broken up, so has our news apparatuses. We are getting propaganda and tabloid nonsense. Look at the alphabet news shows and social media. Have you noticed that you see more advertisements and images of AI created well-endowed women?

It’s because of the Telecommunications Act of 1996 which allowed corporate to buy up and consolidate outlets. News is curated to please the corporate owners and has become much more infotainment and clickbait than it used to be.

I talk to people @ grocery stores & coffee shops. Uber or Lyft drivers. Dog parks. Where ever you see another person there is an opportunity to say something. I mostly listen. Generally don’t tell them who to vote for. Give facts relative to their life circumstances. Encourage people to not give up. Their vote is a gift & opportunity that many people died for and many countries don’t allow. One of the best rights of being an American citizen.

As far as political polling is concerned, the public doesn't trust the polling information because the questions asked are biased toward a specific desired result. The polling concerns have a real credibility issue as far as the public in the US, especially political polling. There is no trust and respect for the organizations involved.

Quick question from an Englishman in France...The level of fealty shown to DJT has effectively changed the essence of the Republican party, to the degree that it is often now regarded as a cult. So...if, just saying, he were to drop down dead, what would they do? Who would step-in? How would they move forward after such an event? Asking for a friend : )
This was an EXCELLENT & HIGHLY informative podcast! Normally I listen to this rather than watch it on TH-cam, but glad I watched this one! I do listen to Pod Save America, & I didn't know Dan's back story. I'm a political volunteer & yeah...somewhat of a political junkie too, so this info covered was helpful. Very interesting comments re: covering the media! And, tho I'm a reluctant subscriber to NYT, I'm woefully disappointed & rather disgusted w/ them right now.

Go out and knock doors, write letters, write postcards, be a poll worker, make phone calls. Do whatever you can to get involved and interact with people.

Lost in many of these conversations is that disaffection is substantially driven by the view and reality for many that they are not advancing financially/economically or in their jobs (for a whole host of reasons) and that they are helpless in trying to change this and the political system has been unresponsive. The political system has become more divorced from Americans (for a whole host of reasons, money, gerrymandering, “corporatocracy,” among others). Fuel to the fire has been changes in the media landscape and the addition of, and division generated by, social media (with its algorithms). I get the focus and importance of getting out the vote in November, but these problems will persist until we address some big policy issues.

I’m from North Dakota. It was a state where we voted by candidate, not party. We were mostly democratic because we were lower middle class working class folks. But there were always the wealthy who voted republican. I miss those times. We even had communists and posse comitatus. Nobody fought, we discussed. In the end, we thought we ran the nation and our leaders worked for us and should follow our direction. We were not followers.

Why aren’t more channels that have this kind of reach not listing the ways people can get involved in grass roots campaigns across the country? I’m helping to flip my district blue and you can too! Start volunteering to help! You can volunteer for an hour and work from the comfort of home also!

In answer to the question in the title of this very video, the answer is a resounding YES. It takes some skill to find news sources that are actually reliable. They're on TH-cam, but not on "regular TV".

Evan Bahy's father was one of the most progressive Congressman who ever served, even by today's standards. He was beloved. He showed up at union meetings and represented in Washington. Andy Jacobs was also progressive his campaign budget was the price one stamp. Indiana loved progressive, check it out.
