Just wanted yall to notice.the first shot of the episode where young Maine is running in the desert, the last shot is him stopping jogging at the end of a concrete road. The show literally tells us it's the end of the road for him within the first 10 seconds.
For me this episode of Edgerunners was the same thing as episode 3 for Arcane, the moment you get into the show so much that you can't stop thinking what will happen next. The moment when David said "I believe in you Lucy" it gave her so much strength she needed to finish what Kiwi started. Nothing feels impossible when someone who you love tells you that he/she believes in you.
Late as hell but 100% agree. I love both shows, maybe Arcane just a little more but they’re both great. And yeah ep 3 of arcane is really what grabs you and you just have see what happens next. Likewise in edgerunners. There’s great world building in both shows and you’re intrigued but then you watch ep 3 or 6 for either and you’re totally sold and have to see what’s next

Here is a partial explanation of Cyberpsychosis by Mike Pondsmith: Okay, so time to (partially) explain CYBERPSYCHOSIS. First of all, Cyberpsychosis is a disorder that in part depends on the subject's overall internal susceptibility. Just like every person who drinks a lot at parties doesn't end up an alcoholic in the gutter, not everyone who gets loaded up on cyberware is going to automatically go cyberpsycho. You have to have an inherent susceptibility, which (in the TRPG) is represented by the player's Humanity Stat. Humanity is not just a measure of one aspect of personality, but an overall measure of several elements including the subject's ability to emphasize and relate with others, their ability to absorb and rebound from mental and physical stressors, their ability to show compassion and flexibility to others, and whether they are able to balance their worldview through other methods. So, in some ways, I tend to treat cyberware as an addiction--heavy anabolic steroid use being my favorite model. Not everyone who juices ends up crazy mad with roid rage. But those who are more susceptible to the need to take more steroids are more likely to hit a point where they do flip into roid rage. (Take a look at this article from Livescience www.livescience.com/38354-what-is-roid-rage.html for a pretty good idea of how roid rage works--notice that it's got the same basic profile as cyberpsychosis). David's starting Humanity was probably already pretty high. And before things went to crap, he had a loving mother, a career path, and no more hassle than the average poor guy in a wealthy Ivy League school. So he had lots of buffer. But even so, he still, even after losing all that, was able to make friends, build a replacement family, and (after some prompting) even get a girlfriend. And a mentor (Maine) to create a supportive father figure. So he could definitely handle the stress of added cyberware up to a point. Most people in Night City don't have the level of Humanity to pull this kind of stunt off without going cyberpsychotic. So David is one in a million. And that's why Arasaka wants him. V is a different case. We don't know V's background, but even if V was a full on Corpo, they were able to hold it together even when they ended up with a dead Rockerboy in their heads (Yah, tell me about it; Johnny Silverhand's been in my head for the last three decades.) In fact, having Johnny in their head probably helped V, because Siilverhand's rage and attitude probably acted as a buffer for the psychological hits V is taking. It's like having a time share with a guy who's already half cyberpsycho and doesn't mind if V slaps stuff on their shared body; he's already crazy and violent. So that's a rough explanation of the roots of cyberpsychosis. If I ever get band width, I'm going to start writing/posting some stuff about what I had in mind as I put together the Night City universe. But for now, you'll have to go with what I've got here. It's one of your intros that I never skip. -And yep this episode is when I started thinking "okay, this is a really solid series" -You were right that the data that Lucy saw was on Arasaka's plans for David being their test subject and that's why she was rattled after the deep dive. For some reason a lot of other reactors were confused on that part. -One thing that Carlie missed though was that Tanaka is completely dead. Lucy in this episode is the most vulnerable she's ever been because of her feelings for David. At the end, not only is she exhausted by the diving but she is also paralyzed and in fear. Due to her own trauma, her natural (and also rational if consider the context) is to run away but she will not do so if it means leaving David behind. At the same time, she is not able to fight this reaction completely and is unable to run after David.
Watch before reading this comment: The way the show depicts how Maine forced David to run by blowing himself up with him there knowing he can make it out. Just what a great show.
Oh, there are a lot of people who love the song at the start of the series. Song has a massive impact on all who have seen the series. Downgrading back to organic is believed to help when combined with therapy in preventing (and possibly treating) Cyberpsychosis. People who are deemed at risk for Cyberpsychosis when arrested often have their implants forcibly removed, and forced through BrainDance Therapy. I say possibly treating Cyberpsychosis itself because there aren't many chances to test this out as almost always once a person goes full Cyberpsycho, they are killed by Maxtac before they could be captures and attempted to be rehabilitated. This is ironic in a way, because many (and possibly all, based on lore found in game) Maxtac were originally Cyberpsychos themselves. One the rare occasion that a Cyberpsycho impresses Maxtac, they may actually do their own version of rehabilitation and recruit the person to join them. Maxtac you talk you still seem very enthusiastic about killing, but they are pointing it in specific directions, and are not concerned about innocent lives caught in the crossfire. In the rulebooks, removing cyberware causes the humanity loss associated with the cyberware to no longer be permanent, and the lost humanity can then be regained through successful weeks or months of therapy. However, for someone who lives their life as a cyberpunk, going back to organic in this dangerous line of work is basically both a downgrade in possible jobs you can do (and effects potential income) and potentially a suicidal risk because you are not as able to fight or protect yourself. Going into a Corpo's cyberware is a risky prospect. You never know what safeguards the Corporation leave inside their higher level executive employees, and Arasaka is one of the most dangerous Megacorps to mess with. There may be other factors as well. We saw Kiwi was extremly cautious as she was examining the ICE (Intrusion Countermeasure Electronics) surrounding Tanaka. Similar level of danger to hacking a Cyberpsycho, though in a Cyberpsycho you have no idea what potential viruses live in his cyberware. Though Maine was the one who provided the direction, It was Pilar in a way who held the group together. He was the one who helped everyone relax, wind down after the stressful gigs with his antics. Without Pilar's humor, the stress began to build on Maine and contributed to the cyberpsychosis faster than Dorio's support could reduce it.
I also feel Maine's psychosis was not something that goes in quickly it is something that builds over time I don't think they ever mentioned how long he has been a merc but I think anything more than 1 year is enough to start experiencing symptoms then when you consider how many people he has killed that just accelerates psychosis. Just for Context there is a way to Cure Cyberpsychosis. Mike Pondsmith, the guy who created Cyberpunk has said that cyberpsychosis can be cured by love. It's Human connection that helps a person recover from it and love is the strongest form of connection.

This anime really came out of nowhere from a franchise I really didn't like but somehow really got me hooked I don't really watch anime because I don't have time but I would recommend this highly to anyone kind of interested. Mains death always tears me up no matter how many time I've watched it

11:05 Just for clarity since it's easy to miss, Tanaka DID have data, we saw it briefly while Lucy was going through his files in the deep dive. She's lying to David in this scene, make of that what you will.
There's a sort of theory that david got maine's arm by trying to pull him away from the explosion, but he was to heavy and thats why david was screaming or trying to, he was straining from the weight, but in the end just ripped his arm off.
I can understand them misunderstanding who shot Dorio. BUT TANAKA TURNED TO MUSH. He used that guys body as a weapon and sent pieces SPLATTERING across the trauma team. How the hell did they miss that?
tbf Trigger stylizes the hell out of the show at it's base, and action scenes they turn it up to 11. It's not "easy" to miss exactly, but it's understandable if a bit of the details got lost in the fray.
This episode gave the hint that Lucy put them in this situation but didn’t make it super clear. Also Maine didn’t shop dorio, a cop shot her. You can see dorio move the gun out of the way then she gets shot in the back.
Cyberpsychosis is a gradual build-up, but the ground work for it is laid as you slot in more cyberware. Then your mind gradually wears away from the loss of humanity. So it's not an instant switch or anything. You have to remember that there's time elapsing in the story. We're not just like 3 days away from David having slotted the Sandy for the first time, it's been quite a few months since then. Whether you can downgrade or not... I guess that depends on which version of the game rules you're looking at, haha. In some of them, once you've lost your humanity, it's gone. You could get rid of all the cyberware, and you'd not regain your humanity. In others you would. They seem to be implying in this story that you can actually remove cyberware (downgrade) and gain your humanity back.
Tanaka is a surname, the father ain't the one using the freaky BDs. He was just buying it from J.K. to placate his son who got sent to the hospital after David punched him in ep 2.

So, cyberpsychosis, from the creator of the ttrpg, that 2077 is based on, is caused by the extreme disconnect / disassociation a person has to have / create in themselves in order to consciously choose to remove a perfectly function part of their body and replace it with a synthetic. Not to be confused with getting a prosthesis, which happens because of circumstances outside of your control. In the case of cybernetic augmentation, you are consciously choosing to mutilate yourself for vanity / a cheat to better reflexes / being stronger, whatever. It is a conscious choice to dehumanize yourself and eventually, a person just can't maintain the comoattmentalization, and they snap. They cannot see themselves as real human being anymore and they can't see other people as real humans either.
Point of clarification that isn't in the show: there is no going back with cyberpsychosis, downgrading just makes the person less dangerous and easier to manage when they do have a break. Cyberpsychosis is more complicated than the show takes time to explain, the game has more details, but the doc nailed it at the beginning, the brain gets scrambled and there really isn't a way to fix that.
That's a misunderstanding. You can come back from it, as evidenced by above comment. I don't know if "most" MaxTac are former cyberpsychos, but that one cyberpsycho lady from the 2013 teaser trailer for Cyberpunk was recruited into MaxTac. It's stated by Mike Pondsmith that, in universe, they explain it as a mental breakdown due to chrome fiends overusing and abusing cyberware because they don't really know how it works, either. Regina contacts you to capture cyberpsychos so she can do research on them in game, iirc. Most cyberpsychos just happen to get offed before any real research and observation can be done on them. A lot of speculation exist in universe because of this reason, but as viewers, we should know it doesn't occur as quickly or as common as it was shown in the show. Maine shouldn't have gotten as fast as he did, but I'd chalk it down to because of his brain getting fried by JK and Tanaka.

Its possible to recover from episodes and for the individual to go for extended periods of time with out an incident but their is no undoing any of the underlying damage. Its a bit like saying someone with PTSD can come back from it, well yeah but no, never gonna be the same person but they can technically not be full crazy forever.

There's a sort of theory that david got maine's arm by trying to pull him away from the explosion, but he was to heavy and thats why david was screaming or trying to, he was straining from the weight, but in the end just ripped his arm off.
I can understand them misunderstanding who shot Dorio. BUT TANAKA TURNED TO MUSH. He used that guys body as a weapon and sent pieces SPLATTERING across the trauma team. How the hell did they miss that?
tbf Trigger stylizes the hell out of the show at it's base, and action scenes they turn it up to 11. It's not "easy" to miss exactly, but it's understandable if a bit of the details got lost in the fray.

This episode gave the hint that Lucy put them in this situation but didn’t make it super clear. Also Maine didn’t shop dorio, a cop shot her. You can see dorio move the gun out of the way then she gets shot in the back.

Yup, there are many who call this episode the best in the series, and I would be hard pressed to argue.
maine mind's in paine
Cyberpsychosis is a gradual build-up, but the ground work for it is laid as you slot in more cyberware. Then your mind gradually wears away from the loss of humanity. So it's not an instant switch or anything.
You have to remember that there's time elapsing in the story. We're not just like 3 days away from David having slotted the Sandy for the first time, it's been quite a few months since then.
Whether you can downgrade or not... I guess that depends on which version of the game rules you're looking at, haha. In some of them, once you've lost your humanity, it's gone. You could get rid of all the cyberware, and you'd not regain your humanity. In others you would. They seem to be implying in this story that you can actually remove cyberware (downgrade) and gain your humanity back.

So, cyberpsychosis, from the creator of the ttrpg, that 2077 is based on, is caused by the extreme disconnect / disassociation a person has to have / create in themselves in order to consciously choose to remove a perfectly function part of their body and replace it with a synthetic. Not to be confused with getting a prosthesis, which happens because of circumstances outside of your control. In the case of cybernetic augmentation, you are consciously choosing to mutilate yourself for vanity / a cheat to better reflexes / being stronger, whatever. It is a conscious choice to dehumanize yourself and eventually, a person just can't maintain the comoattmentalization, and they snap. They cannot see themselves as real human being anymore and they can't see other people as real humans either.

Point of clarification that isn't in the show: there is no going back with cyberpsychosis, downgrading just makes the person less dangerous and easier to manage when they do have a break. Cyberpsychosis is more complicated than the show takes time to explain, the game has more details, but the doc nailed it at the beginning, the brain gets scrambled and there really isn't a way to fix that.
Most max tack are ex cyberpsychos. There is a way back.
That's a misunderstanding. You can come back from it, as evidenced by above comment. I don't know if "most" MaxTac are former cyberpsychos, but that one cyberpsycho lady from the 2013 teaser trailer for Cyberpunk was recruited into MaxTac. It's stated by Mike Pondsmith that, in universe, they explain it as a mental breakdown due to chrome fiends overusing and abusing cyberware because they don't really know how it works, either. Regina contacts you to capture cyberpsychos so she can do research on them in game, iirc. Most cyberpsychos just happen to get offed before any real research and observation can be done on them. A lot of speculation exist in universe because of this reason, but as viewers, we should know it doesn't occur as quickly or as common as it was shown in the show. Maine shouldn't have gotten as fast as he did, but I'd chalk it down to because of his brain getting fried by JK and Tanaka.
@@wetnoodlex The coming back is still a bit of an iffy statement. Its possible to recover from episodes and for the individual to go for extended periods of time with out an incident but their is no undoing any of the underlying damage. Its a bit like saying someone with PTSD can come back from it, well yeah but no, never gonna be the same person but they can technically not be full crazy forever.
@@TealJosh Most veterans have had incidents of cyberpyschosis too, thats why they tend to relapse into it. cyberpsychosis isn't full crazy forever, its just means cyberware broke this persons' brain and if they aren't careful they can go full crazy and cause lots of damage.
