    Combining his passions of sustainable living and bicycling, engineering student Diego Cárdenas found Bamboocycles in Mexico City in 2008.
    Manufacturing and designing bicycle frames from bamboo and carbon fiber joints, his team makes frames for the road the and the mountains sourcing raw materials locally.

    I like the idea. Something tells me that with the bamboo there is just enough flex in the frame to smooth out small bumps and holes.

      it is. I have recently driven a MyBoo bike over old and bumpy cobblestones and the experience was even smoother than with a bike with full suspension. My next bike will be a bamboo bike!

    People can’t get mad about de foresttion because the bamboo grows faster then they can cut it

      3-5 years, then you're on autopilot if you have a good farm. Oddly enough; there aren't many bamboo farms in the US. I'm just researching and found only two that are recent.

      Bamboo bikes have been made for centuries in Asia From push carts to trolleys they have been using bamboo for many centuries, this a road bike so it’s not the same but the concept was already there.

      Carbon fiber is not a good material to use for that since they have different expanding and contracting rates. Caltree found this out the hard way, and then moved to a natural fiber that had a more similar E&C rates. You probably would get away with glass fiber as it has a little more stretch/give than carbon fiber.

    • @biketheperson6919
      @biketheperson6919 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@justinw1765 Apparently hemp fibre is a good option, it has very similar E&C rates to bamboo. I'll be using it on my bamboo bike.

    • @justinw1765
      @justinw1765 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@biketheperson6919 Hemp is alright, but fiberglass is MUCH stronger, and a semi natural material. But hemp is definitely more eco all in all. Flax linen and hemp are quite similar in properties btw, so if you have a Joann's near (fabric and crafts store) and need some quick fabric, they often have coupons going on.

    Beautiful design and materials. But those carbon fibers, to strengthen the joints should not be sanded with bare hands. I did that some times out of lazynes and my fingers just start itching for days when seeing it here :D

      @Cane David ya, except the reason they are temp scaffolding is mostly because of the lashings used to hold it together.
