I took a class Jim Goodwin put on at Roy Underhill’s Woodwright School many years ago. Each student made their own ship in bottle. I got to learn all the masters secrets. Fascinating class and remarkable teacher.
Came for the ship building, stayed for the soundtrack. That was a wonderful experience. Watching a master craftsman being accompanied by a wonderful soundtrack was a deeply relaxing experience.
I built one of these ships in a bottle years ago but I dont think I couldve built another. They are painstaking to build so I can appreciate this guy's patience.
This brought back some memories. As a kid, I used to be fascinated by these and wanted my parents to buy me a ship in a bottle whenever I saw one. Always wondered how they were made, but I was still too young at the time to have internet access and nobody around me knew either, so I eventually forgot growing up. Glad this video finally solved that childhood mystery of mine. It really is a beautiful craft.
I also have childhood memories and still have one tiny Vikings long ship which I managed to place into a small bottle (with a very big mouth opening- haha!)
years and years ago their was a plastic model company that produced a line of "ships in a bottle" ... you would build the ship and then place it inside a clear plastic bottle and then glue the bottom on ... I had several of these on display when I was a child during the late 60's
I love the level of patience at the bench. I finished aerospace parts for 40 plus years, so I know. A joy to watch- my counter part. Wish I could meet him.
There they are, almost done, and you pull out the tools that you had to make yourself, I started doing this around 8 years old, I still have unfinished ships in baggies waiting for me to find the right bottle to put them in, the look in people's eyes when you give it to them, all the fun is making them and stuffing them in, great video
Bought back memories from over 70 years ago, my parents neighbor, an old sea salt, made these. As a kid, I never knew how he performed such magic. Thank you for sharing your magic......
I like how you turn off the light and come back to it tomorrow. Most of the YT videos just do cut after cut. This is great editing, nice music and an amazing build.
@@billsherrard8452 what the OP was trying to say was, he would build the ship and then build a diorama around it that included a harbor-side dock ... perfectly understood what the OP was trying to say ... apparently understanding people has "become a lost art" ... sheesh !!!!
Don't worry I just found this website, not only does he create these, but he also teaches about craftsmanship through workshops. He builds ships, lighthouses, airplanes, and other tiny uniques in bottles. Let's hope his apprentices excel at this craft as well. 😀
That’s pretty cool. I can appreciate all the planning it took to get there. I couldn’t help think of the moth and the butterfly when you pushed the ship through the mouth of the jar and it just was born inside the bottle. Nice work!
Meticulous planning and precision in execution in a restricted space. I draw a parallel to laparscopic surgery also know as key hole surgery. Kudos to you Sir. ❤
Wow, that was quite fascinating to watch you do that. Seems like a very high level of enjoyable patience if you ask me! Awesome work, and thanks so much for sharing your hobby of interest with many.😂
Cuando era pequeño yo miraba a mi padre como hacía sus barcos. Ahora mi padre es anciano y tiene Parkinson y ya no puede hacerlo pero yo observo estos vídeos. Me dan paz. Gracias por su tiempo ❤
I have seen a few other mini-ship builders do their work. Everyone has their own way and technique of creating each ship. They have perfected their craft through years of dedication, precision, and patience. I'm sure your father took on this hobby because he had these in him. I hope you have followed in his steps or will in the future. And if you do not I still wish you much success!
This is absolutely magical. Only Years of practice dedication and passion can give these results 👌👌👌 Thank you for sharing what I always was fascinated as a child how does this happen ? And you displayed it Thank you may you always do better and enjoy your work ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you. I used that glue with model airplanes. The only drawback is that it doesn't give you any leeway in case you make a mistake, because it dries in seconds.
Jim Goodwin, the craftsman in the video not only makes these, sells them, but he also teaches the art. He has a website that anyone can visit and contact his team to set up appointments. Same as you I surely hope it does not die out (ship in bottles). I have been thinking of taking his classes as well. It would be so much fun! Also, I'm really sorry about your sight. Hope you are doing well today. I'm sure making these unique items has its pros and cons. 🚢
The sails are made from 32 lb cotton resume paper. And I use Gutterman hand-quilting thread. I run the thread through beeswax which will take out the kinks and it will reinforce the thread.
Fantastic! As a fellow Artist in illustration and sculpture, I have to say it's wonderful to see a craft that I've never practiced. I'm 50 and always wondered HOW you get a ship in a bottle?!?! 🤣. Thanks so much for sharing your awesome artistry! 🖖😎🤘🇨🇦
Mesmerizing. The patience you have is incredible. Would you be able to do it while listening to some very loud trash metal band? I think you would lose your cool. It is impossible you are this calm all the time. Anyway. Great work. Congratulations.
Peace that comes with the reminder that I am not the originator of myself...but a diligent and well planned craft of A Craft Master... Thanks You Jesus 💐...even when the bottle and craft got damage you came into the bottle so has to restore your original plan of Peace (in chaos)

Same here...always wanted to have a ship in a bottle. I alwats saw them in spain when i was on holliday with my parents.

Me too hi
Just come to know how it is made
This deserves a lot of views & likes
Nothing is more pleasing to watch than a man completely focused on his art
😊
and his passion, to see his labour bearing fruit. 🎉

Porn?
I agree.
55 years old and now I know! Thank you kindly 😉
I honestly can't remember the last time that I've sat for so long in silence, fair play! 😆😅
Absolutely brilliant! Thanks pal 😉👍

I've always been amazed by this - it's not enough you build this great little ship, but then add the challenge of putting it in a bottle after!
Bought back memories from over 70 years ago, my parents neighbor, an old sea salt, made these. As a kid, I never knew how he performed such magic. Thank you for sharing your magic......

TH-cam should also have a "love" button for videos like this
My grandfather would put ships and the hole port builds and all in bottles. It's definitely a dying art. Thanks for taking us along 👍.
Huh? Evidently, grammar is also becoming a lost art.

You are such a brilliant craftsman. I’m almost convinced to take up the trade!!

Amazing. Was holding my breath on the final pull of the strings. So much work done leading to that point.
Patience, precision and perfect
Every since i was a kid I've always loved miniature ships built like that I'd definitely collect em right along with my anime stuff
My anxiety levels went through the roof watching this. An absolute master of such a delicate and precise art. Great work mate

My father built such craft around 25 yrs ago and have seen one when i was kid but, he got different style of craftsmanship and strategy.

I'm soo delighted! I always wondered! This was a joy to watch!
Almost magical to watch. Thank you.
Wow sir ❤ respect the patience of the hardest things but you made it.
Such peace. Quite a hobby, thank you and best wishes.
I always get fascinated by sea ship and this is marvelous
Fascinating work. I've only got as far as making a shipwreck in a bottle.
Thank you for my belly laugh of the day!
😂
Thank you! I learned a lot of craft secrets !!
Greetings from Australia. This bloke has done a really good job.
It's so amazing!! I've always wondered how this was done. Thanks for sharing!!
A true craftsman
Very good. We need more videos like this.
We know the way how the ship is
artificed in a bottle, whatever, it is
charming and surprised craft eternally.
Very soothing! What delight! Bravo!
Amazing. What is the glue that you apply with a brush in the cap?
It's Super Glue by the brand Krazy Glue. The brush applicator gives me more control when applying glue.
Thank you. I used that glue with model airplanes. The only drawback is that it doesn't give you any leeway in case you make a mistake, because it dries in seconds.
@@miguelsuarez8010The correct response to that dilemma would be to not make any mistakes.
This video was amazing, I've always wanted to do this, I think I may give it a try
loved wooden ship building for decades....being 67 yrs old now had to give it up due to eye sight....hope its not becoming a lost art.......

Excellent! just a few questions:
- How do you place gaff and main boom?
- What paper do you use for the sails?
- what thread do you use?
The sails are made from 32 lb cotton resume paper. And I use Gutterman hand-quilting thread. I run the thread through beeswax which will take out the kinks and it will reinforce the thread.
Wow. I wish I had this kind of talent. Stunning.
What an amazing craft. Very fiddly but very satisfying in the end. Looks great!👌😍👌
Has hecho un trabajo perfecto,yo también me dedicó hacer barcos en botella, saludos desde Olot, España ❤😊
Every video is a masterpiece. Keep doing what you're doing!
Splendid work! Although I wish you were more vocal and explained how you get the masts to lock in place once raised. Beautiful job nonetheless. 😜👍
step 1 - drink a whole entire bottle of liquor
I can start this project😂😅
Umm i ehh can make about 165 of those

Amazing ! I was puzzle how they put inside.👏👍

This was insanely interesting
Mesmerising
Just imagine the skill and patience of the person who thought these guys who did not have Dremal drill, I have one but no where bears this talent.
Wow, that was awesome to watch. It came out great. I don't have the patience.
Well done. Thank you.
This gave me the good anxiety. Truly fascinating to watch. Bravo. 👏🏽
what a beautiful piece and very relaxing to watch how you made such a job
Gorgeous!
WOW what else could you say , an artist at work , i would love to know how long that took , brilliant video .
Fantastic work and the final result is outstanding! Very intresting seing the complete steps. Love the background music also, very relaxing.

NICE!!! the master of boat in the bottle :)

Αγαπητέ κύριε μπραβο σας.Ειστε εξαιρετικός.Να είστε πάντα καλά.Σταυρος από Αθηνα
Just WOW.😊
So the skill is miniature ship building not necessarily “in a bottle.” That little ship is just as cool without the bottle part.
Parabéns amigo. Sou intimista deste trabalho
Absolutely incredible
Watching you do this was very cool. I always wondered how they got that ship in there.
Love it! Thanks for sharing.
Amazing, thank you
Not bad for a first timer 😝
Absolutely Amazing
Hi, your work is truly amazing.
You said in a previous video, that you have learned this art from two books .
Can you name them please?
Wow great art.
WOW! So nice, thanx for the video 👍👍

Fabulous work or I should say enjoyment. I am a model builder so I can relate with much of it.
Excellent work. How long did it take you ti make it?
Awesome, salute to master.
I like how you work. Serge from Surrey, BC
As a child my 10 year older sister told me the bottle was built around the completed ship. She did not know any better.
Outstanding 👏🏼👍🏻
Nice Job.👌🙂
Love the shorts, where from?
