I grew up with the 80s TV show Mario and a Mario that didn't speak. I liked that Mario too. In fact I thought Charles' rendition was like nails on a chalkboard at first. Didn't take long to hook me. I appreciate all the years of work put into the worlds that we all love. That said I bet they bought him out or he'll still be getting royalties, either way we will likely have many more Charles voiced Mario games for many more years to come.
He also shows up at the beginning of the movie voicing a person playing Donkey Kong. That person also sometimes shows up in other scenes. He used his iconic Mario voice.
They may not have cast him as Mario, but they sure did show him the respect he deserved. It’s fitting to voice both characters and then get to play their proud father? Poetry at it’s finest
What? It's actually wild that after 32 years, they snubbed him in his final role, and he didn't even get to play his character. They could have introduced Maeio to a new generation and instead they put Chris fucking Pratt in the role lol.

Charles Martinet standing next to Stan Lee is the most amazing thing I’ve seen in a while. Charles was a huge part of my childhood, and so were Stan Lee’s comics.
I’ve met Charles in real life and he is absolutely amazing and I’m happy he chose to move on but he is the voice in so many peoples hearts when you play a netendo game
I met him at a comic con once. He’s the nicest guy. For every autograph he gave a personal touch to whatever he was signing. My friend got a Luigi’s mansion print signed and wrote out the biggest HEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPP MEEEEEEEEE in a Luigi speech bubble.
To anyone wanting to know, whilst he’s retired from voice acting and being Mario behind the scenes, he still has a job, with Nintendo, as the offical “Mario Ambassador” where he get to travel around the world, doing meet and greets with fans and doing the voices for them! Whilst we may never hear his voice again in Mario games (except for perhaps archive footage), he’s still very much involved with Nintendo and Mario.
He really was the Father of the Mario Bros. Wasn't he. Happy retirement Charles Andre Martinet, we'll miss hearing you voice our favorite plumbers in overalls, but we'll cherish the memories you gave us!
Thanks Charles. Glad you were included in that film in a role that fit you, even if the ones you should've been given were effectively given to the voice-acting equivalents of "guy" and "some other guy". Yeah I'm still bitter. No I don't wanna watch the movie. But I'm glad Charles was there when he was, and that he gets to retire in peace. He's a wonderful dude, and if any of ya get the chance to meet him like I have, he's just as much a big sweetheart as he comes off as in interviews and whatnot. He's incredibly modest despite his legacy, and the guy will sign the crap outta anything you hand him (if you can't tell I met him at comic-con lol).
Damn... change is so damn hard to face. When we were little, playing video games and watching movies with our parents, we never imagined it would ever end. All we're left with are memories.
He also played Orvus, Clank's father in Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time. It's my favorite game of all time and what really got me into gaming. Gotta love the legend
Charles was actually very upset that he didn’t get the role as Mario in that film. I heard him say this in person at a convention, one month before he retired.
he also plays jump man in his cameo, for those who don't know, jump man is the playable character in the original donkey kong game that's often confused for mario
Its crazy to think about that Charles voiced Mario for 32 years and while Mike Pollock, voice of Dr. Eggman, did Eggman for 21 years now. Goodness, time goes by
That really doesn't change anything here, though. Mario and Luigi were a huge part of his life and ours. He gave them their iconic voices, they are like children to him
The fact thathis last ever lines are these are my boys and he has been voicing mario since 1995 with Mario's game gallery is realy fitting seeing as he is basically the reason mario has so much personality
Thanks Charles for the Mario we know and love
as a kid who grew up with Mario this makes me wanna cry for some reason

Glad they got him to have a speaking role in the movie. Thanks Charles for all your hard work over the years even if I am only 17
What else would they have done? Make him the only live action character in the entire movie without having him speak?
They actually gave him 2, Mario and Luigi's dad, and Giuseppe

Omg that is so heartfelt 😮❤
He was also paarthurnax in skyrim
Fun fact: in the italian version of the movie, charles ALSO voice mario and luigi dad
Bowsers laughter track in 64 was actually a slowed down version of Charles’ laugh (also, thanks Charles)

Because they thought we would've been so annoyed with Mario's voice
They did actually, he was Mario and Luigi's father and the guy playing the arcade game in the movie.
