- Welcome back everyone, today's story is The Tale of Eve Onlines Most Infamous Scammer - Erotica 1. Erotica 1 was a big time isk doubler, a type of scammer, located mostly in the Jita or Amarr region of New Eden. There he would trick people into sending him their isk or in-game currency with the promise of doubling it. He would do this a few times, until the scamee sent him a number big enough that he was satisfied with cutting and running. Now, this is nothing special, but what made Erotica 1 infamous was his use of what he called, the Bonus Room. Here, Erotica would challenge people to quintuple their earnings by completing various challenges, but not before making them sign over everything they had to him. He would then, with his friends humiliate and torment people until they eventually quit or even snapped. He would record these sessions and post them online afterwards to make fun of the people he was stealing from. Eventually, EVE blogger and CSM member Ripard Teg, known on the blog as Jester, would write a long post about Erotica's behavior. The community of EVE Online would split into two groups, this for and against Erotica's behavior. Eventually, CCP would permanently ban Erotica 1, a ban which still stands to this day. Supported mostly by the CODE, a group of hi-sec griefers whom he had donated billions of isk to, Erotica 1 worked to whine to various media groups unsuccessfully.

Did Erotica go too far or did he just play the game how its meant to be played?
I think leaving scams to in-game would've been alright, but turning it into the stuff you described, well then it's pretty much not even in the game anymore, so yeah too far.

Erotica did nothing wrong. It's just a videogame.
Certain elements get repeated over and over because people assume everything they read on internet is true. There is more nuance regarding this video and key elements of the story as retold are false, but close. But, the ways in which the inaccuracies are presented seem minor but are KEY

As someone who has played since 2004 I totally understand that Eve is completely ruthless. Sometimes people get fucked over and I've been on both ends of that stick but I don't think I could ever bring myself to attempt to break another human being down like that. I get staying within the limits of the game but that is way, way too far. Inhumane and cruel.

CCP did the right thing. I played EVE and there is a scamming and than there is what Erotica1 did for their own twisted amusement. Scamming people of out ISK, ships, whatever its fine, have a few laughs, or rage along the way sure its part of the game, Taking people to teamspeak or out of EVE so you can abuse them for hours and that's the only reason? Ban well deserved.

As someone who participated in the Bonus Room as an escrow agent I would like to point out that people **DID** win the Bonus Round. The way to win was to outlast Erotica 1. If you were still going by the time he was ready to go to bed - you got 4x your stuff. A few players became filthy rich from this.
Most Bonus Rounds were pretty uneventful and moderately entertaining. The few that became famous were when the candidate screamed and called people n*gg*rs.
No one wants to talk about those contestants who hurled abuse at everyone, nor the contestants who got abused by and kicked out of their corporations for "ruining the killboard" with empty pods.
Erotica 1 was edgy and sometimes toed the line. But I don't agree with CCP's decision to ban him (he didn't violate any currently existing rules at the time) nor CCP's decision to log in one day and randomly ban everyone who happened to be logged in and present in Erotica 1's chat channels. Some of those people had been invited to the channel and never actually participated or spoke in the channel.

I don't know how anyone could be "forced" to sing and hand over all their assets via voice comms.
Generally, they had the assets first and use that as leverage to get more or embarrass you further.
If I had unlimited money and cloud, I would hire the best hackers in the market and go with a vengeance after groups like Erotica.
So take a video game and actually cause harm to someone? You wouldn’t be the first, but SHOULD give you pause…
I was quite a good scammer and I remember I scammed this guy and he cried in coms and then said he was going to go kill himself and disconnected. I sent an email to ccp and they sent his IP to interpol who sent the NYPD to his door. 😅 he come bk next day and told me and I gave him half his stuff bk. This was about a 8bil I took from him 😂

Who knows. A lot of the old guard are gone. The game turned into a p2w mtxfest and lost a lot of its old glory. I stopped playing years ago.

lol thats not true at all. thats what the internet says. mittens was on at least one along with scooter, various goon directors, etc. the "even goons disliked him" was the meta game after the fact, same with ccp devs erotica 1 was friends with including ccp falcon. Wildly Inappropriate considered leaving Goons when given the choice to kick E1 or have corp kicked. That corp was evenly split and e1 left on his own free will to not affect corpmates.
