  • If you haven't heard by now, we have a new king for the largest heist in EVE Online's stories history of MMORPG heists.
    The free to play space MMO by CCP Games has quite the history of events like this but this one may take the cake.
    Over 20,000 dollars worth of digital goods were stolen through a very interesting method, making use of the Eve Online share system to essentially make a hostile takeover of a corporation of Eve Online.
    Leave it to this huge sandbox mmo to keep creating new and interesting newsworthy mmorpg stories.

    There also is a story of a player who was moving 16 years of assets to another part of space and got attacked and killed. He lost around $5000 US dollars worth the items. He had to have felt like he got kicked right in the nuts, losing 16 years worth of his time.

      That's *brutal* I felt that way when I lost a few hours worth in Ultima Online from a PK....

      @@Redbeardflynn I can relate to that. To this day I remember my 1st time I got killed to a PK. I think I had about 12 hours invested into the game and decided I wanted to see Lord British and Chuckles. According to my cloth map, I followed the road north out of Tristan. I never was more than a couple minutes away from the city before, and houses were very rare to see. It was just me vs the wilderness. About what I guessed half way into my run, all i remember seeing is a red character casting a spell. I had zero pvp experience, so ill I did was stand there. After a 2nd cast from the player, I was dead and going OoOO oOoOO. I lost everything I worked for, which in hindsight, wasn't shit, but it was MY shit! As a ghost I stood there and watched my corpse get looted and decided to take my ghost back to Tristan, my safe haven, and get a rez. I bet it wasnt until another 20 hours of gameplay until I got brave enough to make the run again.

      he played the game for SIXTEEN YEARS and got ganked with ALL of his belongings in one cargo load? one would think that in over a decade and a half of play he'd have learned the rule: don't fly what you can't afford to lose

      It's an MMO I dont think I'll ever play but I love reading about. Sounds like a Sci-fi novel.

    EVE Players will never stop impressing me with both their fame and infamy. Thanks for this news item. I haven't followed EVE as closely the last several years, and just can't bring myself to start playing again, but still appreciate all the craziness that can go on. EVE is the best life simulator ever.
    But seriously, you play old school EQ. How are you overwhelmed by EVE?

    I find the stories that come out of Eve fascinating, but in no way want to make me play the game. I tried it many many years ago and like you lasted all of about 30min before it just got too complicated. I play games to relax and enjoy downtime. Eve is a second job.

      I had a little run at the game myself. It a very neat game. I was having a blast until I realized that you didn't even need any graphics to play the game. The game is known as spreadsheets in space, and i know why. Its really a rock, paper, scissor thing. How good you are at playing is determined by how well you know what will trump what. The actual player skill is minimal. The more knowledge you have, the better you are.

    I play EVE a lot, bit of a love hate relation ship, i enjoy building stuff but doing that does not require player owned stations, but they add a ton of benefits, but dropping one and you are wardecd instantly by corps that does nothing else, and you loose everything.

    Brilliant… like a game like this should just be an arena where everything goes. Don’t take anything personal, like you don’t take someone outplaying you in a monopoly game personal… obviously this is on a different scope. Cool that they were able to pull it off!

    Why does everyone think this game is too complicated? I've seen mobile games with more complexity- Evony The King's Return for instance.
    Eve is complex for sure, but it's not unlearnable. At first, all you have to do is do the tutorial and then pick a ship to fly. Pick a path, skill up, and watch yourself get better and better. If you want to grow even faster, spend a few dollars on a billion ISK and that'll last you a long while. Just relax and watch your skills improve. Early Eve is a snooze fest. I like it because I enjoy mining. Mining is easy money (even if it's not the most money) and it's relaxing. Want a thrill? Mine in low sec. Want to relax? Mine in high sec. I have a retriever, procurer, and 2 skiffs all fitted and ready to go. I even have an empty battleship hull. I board it every now and then to remind myself of my goal to one day do L4 combat missions. I can fly it, but I don't have the skills to fit it. One day... I'm only 3 weeks into this game and I'm enjoying it.
    Later on, IF I decide to join a corporation, it'll get more complex, but for now, it's not worth it. I don't have a lot of time to play since my life is busy so I just mine ore and ice when I can.

    Back in 2008 I pulled off one of the dirtiest heists you've ever heard of. I was a new player in a small corp. I quickly become friends with one of the main guys.
    This guy made the grave mistake of giving me his login info and password. At first I did nothing much with it I would use this account from time to time to mine ore.
    While mining I got bored and started shifting thru the mail the character had and what did I find... The password and login to the head character of the corp. Over several hours in the darkest hours of the night I looted and pillaged their belongings.
    Once done I did one of the dirtiest things a person can do I deleted their characters. Years gone. 500billion in liquid isk sure I got a lot but I lost so much more from that exchange.

      There's nothing clever about what you did, you didn't 'pull off a heist'. You're just boasting about being a massive asshole

    • @user-uv8rw1qm3u
      @user-uv8rw1qm3u 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Why

    • @Telearian
      @Telearian 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@user-uv8rw1qm3u well many reasons come into play here. For one I simply had the opportunity and seized it. Two I wanted to teach a lesson to the random people out there that you should never ever give your password to another person. Sure it's sucks for them but hey they terms of service clearly said don't give out your password...
      But mostly I enjoyed the ensuing chaos that came with what I had done. They had no idea it was me as I had given leadership to a random person and offloaded everything to an alt that was also deleted after it's use. The confusion when the messages came up that they died in a clone mishap was hilarious.
      They say with great power comes great responsibility. I said to hell with that gimme the money.
