@@cmattdabrat no problem. Just got a 2013 Cruze 1.4 Turbo myself yesterday for my 18th birthday. Really big thing for me. I love how much torque it has.
Just a tip, better would be if u put oil pan connector upside for like 45 degrees for easier oil drainage, and did you put oil in turbine before start?
I'm guessing the Cruze is pretty well known for the #3 spark plug coming loose. My car was the exact same it was making a chirping noise and I got it cheap because the guy though the engine was on its way out. All it was is the plug backed out on the same cylinder you had all oily when u pulled the coil pack. I replaced the plugs and have been checking the torque about every oil change on all the plugs. I think for whatever reason the plugs love backing out from vibration. I didn't lock tight them in just some anti seize.
It's crazy how people let cars go cheap over minor problems. In my case, it was just the valve cover needed replacing. The rubber tends to harden after time, so did the oil cooler gaskets. But one of my buddies picked up a 90's Ford Explorer V8 for $800. Had 70k miles. They sold it because they had a school replace the shifter cable, so it wasn't going into gear. The kids just happened to not secure the cable boot / grommet at the floor where it comes in. I help my buddy figure out the issue while sitting around and he was like, hey... help me figure this out. Snapped the boot in, and secured the stock 10mm bolt that kept it in place. Works like a champ now.
@@cmattdabrat yeah I definitely need to look into the oil cooler gasket car has almost 300,000km but still running strong. I am replacing the turbo feed line soon I hear that's another major flaw it plugs up with carbon being right under the exhaust manifold.
Turbos smoke from over pressure from the oiling system. That's why there is an inline pressure reduction to meeter the flow. Too much oil and it will push past the seals and burn oil and dump oil into the intake.
Hey man this is seriously awesome. I always get shit for my cruze but even on forums no one believes in them. I have a 1.4 2015 but I think this would be awesome to do!
You should take a look at ZZP's channel. They have made 400whp, and are installing a larger turbo to push the 1.4 to it's limit to the point of breaking it to find out what the max hp they can get out of it is.
Thanks. The pan does have a slight angle to it. Be sure to check out my other videos to get up to speed. Fully built version up next. Forged pistons, rods, cams, etc for this car.
Do a little research. Many have ran them HARD for 3 years without issues. Besides, everyones house, appliances, phones, maintenance parts, all made in China. Do you really think Garrett or Borg Warner have staff casting their turbos? I highly doubt it. More like, we'll have you cast them, we'll machine them for an hour, and charge more. Just sayin'...
HPTuners will handle a lot, and most mods. Including adjusting tables for boost / additional bar, fuel management / VE, control of VVT, spark, etc. Takes some pretty extensive mods, and sensor additions to need a stand alone.

Thanks! I’m just more of a fan of how the first gen Cruze looks. The Sonics are cool too. Might do one in the future. But the Cruze has a little more room.
I love the sonic Everytime I see it pass I'm like I would love that car and modded. I love the cruze Also I got a clean 2014 Cruze looks elegant.
Actually you want some restrictor to the feed, too much oil can give higher resistance to the impeller axle :)
Maxpeedingrods, the "ebay turbo" has one built in. :) So they got it set.
The words Chevy Cruze daily driver and ebay turbo setup in the same sentence is terrifying lol these things blow up stock early
You must be thinking of the 1.4. This is the NA 1.8.
You remind me of the guy on CB Media (TH-cam channel). You two sound similar and have similar mannerisms. Cool video
lol
@@cmattdabrat are you familiar with him? 😁👍. You both produce great videos
In Australia we have the Holden astra and cruise some come with a 1.8 turbo petrol model you can get one of there manifolds snd turbo set for about $250 on eBay also your oil return runs up hill from what I can see if you have got any smoking issues that’s y return lines should never run up hill unless you have a good quality pump installed to push the oil away
Thanks for the tips! I'll have to check it out.
c'mon 1 million views man!! nearly there, my whole channel only has 800k views I HOPE TO GET TO YOUR LEVEL SOON
Almost there! You'll get there. I'm just kinda diving into the car video stuff, and have done a lot about what I do for a living, printing shirts. I'm sure I've uploaded at least 400 videos by now and just try and get better and better as I go. Or at least just staying consistent with the uploads. You can dew et!
Let’s support this dude
I appreciate that!
Pro tip flip your oil pan over when drilling so less chances of metal getting into the pan
Nice! That's why it's great getting another persons perspective.
Im planning to buy a Cruze and upgrade it. Glad to see ur channel. 🤟🤟🤟
Awesome and welcome to the channel!
You forget the most important thing. A 12pack for a job that will take that long. One 🍺 isn't enough.
Trust me, there was more than one beer hanging around. lol
One of the best recommendations YT has ever given me:))))
:) Thanks!
Loved this video. Really well put together video.
Thanks so much!
Good tip! I primed the oil feed and let the system fill the turbo for a sec.
True
This has inspired me to turbo my 1.8L Cruze
Nice! It’s cool seeing you guys be excited about this platform.
I was literally thinking about keeping it stock or adding the turbo & my friend shoots me this video
Cool to see Paul Rudd getting into cars!
The weather outside is weather...
Daily driving a Cruze is already risky in itself but turboing it will not end well
LOL... not when it comes to a 1.8. Super reliable.
this is good content, I'm really surprised you don't have more subscribers, I'm definitely one now
I appreciate that! I'm sure they'll come sooner than later.
@@cmattdabrat will do thanks!
Yooo I knew I’ve seen those offices somewhere, I use to work about 2 rows down. Small world man 🥶
Definitely a small world for sure!
I noticed the oil pan fitting looked like the oil will have to go uphill a little bit. I'd try and fix that so it doesn't push oil out the turbo
Thanks. The pan does have a slight angle to it. Be sure to check out my other videos to get up to speed. Fully built version up next. Forged pistons, rods, cams, etc for this car.
@@cmattdabrat I feel you there im fully building my altima. I need to get videos of it as I do it haha
@@calebanderson132 Definitely! Never know, it could earn you some cash to fund your project.
this is what it truly means to be a car guy
thanks!
Props on the beer selection.
Lol, thanks.
These engines are used in the vauxhalls in the uk. They come with a 1.6 turbo aww 2.0 turbo modles in the turbo range
Yes!!! I don't think a lot of people get that. Solid motors.
Did it run good....like did it bring you a smile when you got on the loud peddle
Hell yes! It pulls nicely and made the car a lot more fun.
Always wanted to drop a 2.0T LTG into one of these. 270hp/295ft/lbs would be a fun ride!
That would be sweet for sure!
Love the turbo to engine ratio here Matt! Great video!
Thanks! Going even bigger for the fully built engine. lol
You are teaching me so much brother I'm gonna start working on my cruze soon
Nice! That's awesome to hear.
I like how he put $113 turbo in the title when in all reality he probably spent over $1,000 on the hardware and piping and everything else
and when the cheaply made turbo goes, it become a huge waste of time and money
Hardly. The most expensive part was HPTuners and the credits. Hardware including the turbo was about $800. Easily manageable for your average Joe.
So are you using hp tuners still? Was considering making baby steps, but want to know what tuner makes the most sense for incremental improvements.
HPTuners will handle a lot, and most mods. Including adjusting tables for boost / additional bar, fuel management / VE, control of VVT, spark, etc. Takes some pretty extensive mods, and sensor additions to need a stand alone.
I subbed to your channel dude
I appreciate it!
