Great comments, every time I see one of your videos I learn something. Usually, racquet sellers are afraid to say anything negative about racquets. They usually say "I really like this one" regardless. It's refreshing to hear some honest opinions.
I am intermediate player 3.5-4.0 with dependable strokes . I like to attack with my forehand and approach shots and volleys with some success. I play onehand and under pressure I use backhand slice a lot. I can hit first serve with power but I have shoulder pain for a while. Do you think this racket could be good for bad shoulder? Is 100 ok for onehandbackhand?
@@FelixArdLykke really really excellent for a bad shoulder serves and for one handed backhand. Would recommend a dependable string with it, solinco confidential or Weiss cable. Would not recommend gut strings as would be too trampoline like.
I string for a junior who was one of the top 12's in the country last year. He was stringing with NXT at 52-54 lbs (thanks Wilson for his sponsorship!). Before he turned 13, we moved to Luxilon 4G and dropped it to 49. Now we're down to 47 and he's loving it!

I got the Clash 100L v1 as I've been having forearm pain with my other racquets. I love the Clash. Easy, effortless power. Used Technifibre NRG2 16 at 52 lbs. So comfortable to use. Thank you for your awesome content, I've learned so much from your channel. Now that my forearm pain is gone, I'm gonna try the recommended LXN Smart 125 at 44lbs.
Just tried out Luxilon Smart 1.25 at 44 lbs mains and crosses on my Clash 100 tonight. Love it. Way better than my current set up of Razor Code mains and Prince synth gut crosses at 52 lbs. Power and accuracy way better, same with volleys and serve astonishing.
This racket is gold. I play competitively against 4.5 to open players in Canada. Yes, it’s light. Yes, it’s soft. It’s not great for volleying at net. But I can baseline and serve very heavy even with this 295g model. Most importantly, I suffered serious wrist problems with an extreme pro and made the switch. Strung at 48 lbs with lux Alu power, it generates no vibration in the arm or wrist. It’s amazing.

The Clash 100 is a very unique and comfortable racquet. When you first play with it, you have to make some adjustments to your ground strokes but it then works fine. I have mine at 52 lbs but I might try it at 47 in view of your advice.
I have the 4 of the 100 tour. Lead on 9.30/2.30, 12 and silicone and lead inside the handle. Strung up with 17 Snake Bite or 17 Tourna Black 7 on main and 16L Luxilon Element on the cross. All strung up very similar due to high breakage. 56lbs on main and cross. Slowly liking the setup. I've tried all the tension between 45lbs to 70lbs. I personally love it at 56lbs. Racket weighs 368 on all my setup. Btw I've tried all Luxilon Polys and Natural guts and all the Babolat Polys and Tecnifibre 4s and bunch of different kirschbaum and solinco strings. Currently using Wilson Baiardo Stringer with 20% prestretch. Previously used Babolat Pure Strike at 68lbs with full Snake Bite or Tourna Black 7 with same lead setup. This is my own personal experience. I love the spin, comfort and baseline about the racket except volley and serve. I also noticed that for flat hitting, this racket doesn't work. Also trying to put extreme spins doesn't work well due to the thick beam. This racket favors people who likes to spin the ball moderately and who strokes the racket at 80% or less and not at 100%. Hitting big doesn't work well. I wished this racket would have more plow through to hit some big winners.
My primary racquet is a 2019 Babolat Pure Aero, but I play tested the Clash and really liked it. To me it was similar to the Aero except that it wasn't as stiff. I string my own and experiment with different strings at different tensions. My go to string is the Luxilon Smart at 44lbs, and I've tried both the 125 and the 130 versions. I can't say I have a preference between the two, but the 130 lasted forever, over 6 months! I just strung with the 125, so I don't know if it will stay playable as long. For comparison, I get only a month out of the Weiss Cannon Ultra Cable string.

I traditionally prefer a heavier long range missile blaster racquet, but Now I'm sold I'm so jazzed to see what this is all about. At least gonna demo it immediately now because of you. I've tried so many string combinations on my Wilson Clash 100: Wilson Champion's choice (Luxilon Alu Rough + Natural Gut on mains), Luxilon Smart, Ashaway, Babolat RPM Blast, etc. But the best strings that matched well with the Wilson Clash 100 is the Yonex PolyTour Pro 17 gauge (1.20). I set mine at 50 pounds. The two are perfect together. Great spin (drops, lobs, topspin, underspin), great control, power is just right.
I have the Clash 100 - Been using it for a year now and absolutely love it! I also have the Ultra v3 Pro. I have been experimenting adding weight to my clash because there is a 14g difference between the two at the moment. I really enjoy the weight of my Ultra and its a great racquet, however I struggle to find the sweet spot as easily as I do with the Clash. I have tried a few strings in the Clash 100. First was Wilson sensation (54lbs) - hated it, it lost tension really quickly and just felt wrong. After that I tried Luxion Alu power Big Banger smooth (54lbs)- it was good but decided to keep experimenting. Coach recommended trying Luxion 4G rough (48lbs) and whilst I got a lot more spin I found I had pain in my arm below my elbow... swapped back to Luxion Alu power Big banger smooth (50lbs) and the pain went away. My arm has gotten even better the more tension I add each restring (went from 50 to 52, and currently at 54lbs and my arm feels great!). Couldn't recommend this racquet enough, it's great!
Hey! I have the v1 Wilson ultra and I’m looking to switch to the clash bc of wrist/arm pain. I can’t believe there’s someone out there that uses the ultra and made the switch! Are you still using the clash? Did you ever try a low tension Gut with the ultra? I love that racquet so much and really hate to switch but I think it’s going to help my arm in the end.

True. Also if a product gets a good selling kick-off then people blindly buy it just because others buy it. They assume that it has to be great because it's being sold well. That is the same effect that we can widely see on the Internet like on amazon, ebay, aliexpress etc. if something is the top selling product, the amount of orders grow even more only because of that. I still think that a tennis racket is extremely personal choice and as long as you buy a quality racket which means it's not from the low price range, it's a good buy. It might not be cut out for you but is definitely a good racket. The key here is to rent a few of them and then decide. All those detailed specs are not for people like us, the pros might see the difference because they are fully aware of their equipment and needs but I believe for amateurs it wouldn't make a difference in a blind test at all. Just my opinion, tho.
Its a great raquet! Just bought my friends 98 last couple weeks. He didnt like it. Tried it for a year with many strings. I asked o borrow it for a hit and after that session sold my Radical Pro 360's and bought a couple 98's! Fyi i cant say enough say enough things about this raquet.
I had my first Clash strung with Wilson’s recommended ALU Silver @ 52lbs. A little harsh for me. I had my second strung with Technifibre X-ONE Biphase @ 48lbs, and that is magic so far. Hits good, feels good, even sounds good. I’ll be getting the first restrung like the second. Thanks for the tension recommendation!
Very nice review. I generally prefer stiff racquets. I love my Babolat Pure Drive (2012). There's a crispness that I get that is largely absent in other frames. This Wilson Clash 100 as you described reminds me of Prince CTS Vortex. I really miss that racquet. I wish it didn't crack on me. If I had to pick a racquet as an all time favorite and overall comfort, Prince CTS Vortex midplus (100 sq. in.). Other than that, I'm sticking with my Pure Drives. It was too bad that the Prince Vortex didn't handle high tensions very well. But it was the most comfortable racquet I have ever used.
its because this racket has very low stiffness rating, which allows it to cushion the ball more rather than having the vibration transfer to the arm from a stiffer racket. a softer string helps tennis elbow too, like natural gut, if not able to afford then multifilament which was designed to mimic natural gut. it is cheaper, but not as good
If its really bad, I am a 4.5 player and literally stopped playing for a year because of tennis elbow. I made 2 changes. Shifted to a softer racket but the biggest change...I used KT Tape. Recommended the tape to another friend with elbow issues, same result. I hate to send out pseudoscience BS normally but my guess is that KT supports some of my arm flex without transferring stress onto the tendons. Hope it helps
Thanks for the video. I recently switched from the Clash 100 to the Pro Staff 97 CV. The Clash just got pushed around way too much at net. I mixed up stringing them quite a bit in the year I played with them, but mostly I used a shaped poly like Signum Pro Xperience or Lxln ALU Power Rough - strung at 53#. For my pro staffs I’ve got one with Hyper G at 53# and one with synth gut at 55#. Loving those sticks but feeling a little stress in my elbow I never had with my Clashes.
Totally Agree on the strings tension in the Clash 100 (normal and tour). I am using square Tour Bite Soft (1.20) at 22kg in the main and another round poly (1.3) at 19kg in the cross. I have tried different combinations and I noticed 3 interesting things: The 3kg difference between the main and cross give additional feel and spin. The round poly is a little bit slicker for the tour bite to slide and snap back on. And the difference of tickness 1.3 in the cross and 1.2 is nicer as well, but i cannot pinpoint it yet why. Like it makes the whole combination more consistent and some more spin again as the 1.2 is forced to bend a little bit more.. The round poly's that I am currently trying in the cross are: Head Sonic Pro, Luxilon adrenaline The ticker round poly's in the cross mean less friction between the mains and cross I am also going the try the luxilon alu power and the smart in the main to see if I'll stay with my tour bite normal and tour bite soft A hibrid like this also lowers the cost of frequent restringing.
Thanks for the fantastic review! I have recently moved from a Prostaff RF with 4G rough in main /syngut on cross@ 52 lbs to a Clash Pro 100 due to TE. I was scared to have any poly in my racquet so strung my clash with TF X-one BF @ 45 lbs full bed. I love the feel and my arm is so much better even with my OHBH!. Do you think I should still give the thin poly a try at maybe 40 lbs? I'm at 3.5 to 4 level. Appreciate your insights and thanks for the amazing content you create!
I played with a clash 100 within 2 week ago. It swung fast, gave more power than I was accustomed to gave access to lots of top spin. It is fun to rally in a hit session. I wish I had it to play a couple sets of doubles. It was strung with a full bed of black poly.
Ordered 3 when they first came out. Love them. Recommend them to everyone I come in contact with. Have tried many different setups; both tensions and string types. Currently playing Gosen OG Sheep Micro 17 at 46lbs and it may be the best blend of control and power yet. Still want to try full bed natural gut and a poly at 35lbs, but I think what is have now will probably win out.
I use luxilon alu power 1.25 at 50 pounds....but the racket still owes me....will take your tip to feel more confidence changing the string....keep with the interesting videos
I am using it with lxn smart at 48lbs. Plays really well, lots of control. Once the tension goes down a little, it gets even better. The suggestion from this video really helped me. Tks
When you lower the tension to 48lbs, do the mains move to much going east west or west east? I used a 98 sq in Clash with the new Alu Power VIBE at 57lbs and it played well. It is designed for racquets with lower RA stiffness ratings.
4.0 Player. I change rackets and strings A LOT. That said, I have been hitting the 100 for almost a year now. Typical setup Tonic gut on mains at 54 with Lux ALU Power at 51 on crosses; a little lower in the winter. Zero shoulder pain, great feel, power and control. Love the sound of this setup. Agree with whoever said it can get pushed around a bit by heavy hitters so I added some tungsten putty in the handle so maybe the tour version? Will try lower tension and the Smart string as recommended. Caveat: I did recently buy an EZone 100 which feels significantly firmer (a little harsh now that I'm used to the Clash). Of all the sticks I've played with the Clash is the first one that I can say is truly different and not just marketing hype.
Great review, and great insights as always! Personally, though, I can't stand racquets (and strings) that advertise different flexes for different shots/swings. This idea has been around for a while starting with the Prince Vortex back in the day (at least that's the earliest I can recall), and having played with that for a little while back then, and then playing with the Luxilon Smart string last year in a Yonex Vcore Pro 97 for the heck of it, it all still feels the same to me- inconsistent. Touch shots are where you really see how goofy these things are- drop volleys either end up at the bottom of the net, or get launched (weakly) into mid-court for an easy put-away by your opponent. Similar questionable response on drop shots- never know how it's going to get launched. However, I can see where it's beneficial for beginner/intermediate players because the sweet spot is rather large and overall very forgiving, but advanced players need to know exactly how their racquet will perform under every condition. That's why there aren't any tour pros using Clash racquets. Again, just my personal experience from this kind of "tech".
@@pontusschroder8361 Well, in short yes. But the variance mostly comes on the touch shots, in my experience. When you hit drives (i.e. topspin, flat), your body is more adept at holding the acceleration constant as you swing into the ball. That's natural because that's the shot we've always wanted to hit when we grew up learning, and is also the most common shot hit throughout most points. However, when you try to hit delicate touch shots, where you typically have to decelerate the racquet into the ball, well, we're not always consistent on the stroke path or the rate of deceleration, and if you have a racquet and strings that react to those discrepancies, then it's very hard to tell how the ball is going to react when struck. I'm sure that in theory if you put the racquet on a machine that replicates the same shot over and over, it will perform the same way each time, but the fine adjustments made by your hand and body that occur moments before a delicately hit shot more often than not gives results incongruent to what you are expecting.
@@williamko5031 My experience is the same. I demoed and noticed the soft feel, and then was very surprised how much power I could get on my serve and hard ground strokes. Then... I hit some volleys and just couldn't find a way to control direction and depth. I play serve and volley and a lot of doubles, and my game is dependent on good volleys, so that was it for me.
@@pontusschroder8361 I think it's like having a hammer head on the end of a bamboo stick. You swing smooth and fast and the hammer head does the work with consistent power. You hold it firm without much swing and the bamboo gives with a mushy and inconsistent response.
I use 2 strings in my Clash 98. Length string: Luxilon 4G. Width string Luxilon savage. Both 23kg (50.7 Lbs) Works for me amazingly well so far. Will follow your comment and advice as well and try it out.
Hey there! First of all - great vids, love them and watch them regulary. I play the Wilson Clash 100 with the Luxilon Smart string. I really love that combo. Last time it was strung with a tension of 23kg/23kg (recommendation of the tennis store due the sommer weather conditions). Luxilon recommends a lower tension of 22/22kg (or even lower). As I now need to get my rackets strung again, what would you recommend 23/23kg or 22/22kg? Many thanks in advance and best regards from Germany!

I just had my noir 100 V2 restrung with Babolat vs natural gut (1st time trying gut) at 53 pounds; love it! I was in NXT 52 prior to that. I 'm getting over TE hopefully so I figured I want to have the softest set up possible

One year playing with the Clash 100 Tour,, this racquet is amazing. Effortless powerful tennis. Game changer for me. I use it with a Big Banger Rough at 46 &48. I'm not good enough to play with the Clash 98 Tour, but I would like :D

I put Tecnifibre Triax 17g at 52 in it. When the racket came - it was already somewhere around 46. And balls jump off it. You touch, the ball flys. It seams like I use 110 inches racket (I have clash 100). It is nice and soft, super easy for the arm, yet completely unpredictable and uncontrollable. It takes so many efforts to be precise. When I have say Pro Staff in my hands with tighter firmer strings, I feel like I can direct ball wherever I want after playing with Clash 100 + Triax at 44-46 lb now. Well, I didn’t use Lxn Smart or poly in it, maybe it will be the game changer, but after my experience I really doubt about loose tension in a such powerful racket.
Thank you for the important info. My goto string setup after trying different combinations such as hybrid, I like Cyclone Tour 18 gauge at 55/53 lbs. Since string tends to loose tension after couple of days, I strung at even higher at 57/55 lbs. I'll try stringing with L. smart at low tension as you recommended.
I have the Wilson Clash 100 Tour and I love it. I used to play with the babolat Pure Drive that I loved but I had an arm injury so I had to choose a softer frame. I've put the Luxilon Smart string in it at 52 pds of tension... now that it has lost some tension and feels about 48-50 lbs it's a pretty good feel. So now I can play Tennis without the arm pain. I've Three string settings. 52 pds with Babolat Xcel.. It didn't last long enough so I decided to try it with the Tecnifire Xone BiPhase in the mains and Alu Power 125 in the cross at 52 pds and that was a very nice feeling but didn't last long enough. Next time I'll restring my racquet it will be at 50 or 48 pds. It's really hard to compare cause it is a unique technology but if I had to compare it to something else.. I'd say, similar to a Babolat Pure Drive with slightly less power but way softer on the arm.
use head rip control 16 it is the most durable multi i get 2-3 months of play before it breaks and i hit quite hard like 60 hours as i play 8 hours a weeek roughly
Great video , tried upgrade from my old Prince. Demo with yonex VCore 98, Yonex Black, lightier, and Babolat Pure Drive. Finally a chance with Wilson Clash. Oh my God! Manueveravility, nice feel, shots that usually fall in net incredibly pass and win. Its different. Like fill your bad game holes. Yes the volley not works so well. But im working to use it. Mine stringued with allupower rouhg 1.25. Low tension. Nice felling. Nice racquet .
Just played with one strung @ 50lbs with some spin focused poly string (don’t know which one) @ 50lbs and I absolutely loved it. Never had more control over my shots. Lacked a little bit power but 100% worth the tradeoff at my level. I was able to swing confidently and fast and still have the ball land in with a good margin from the lines, whereas with other racquets I’ve tried I’d send them straight out even with higher tensions.. and the fact that it’s so flexible allowed me to finish the session with ZERO pain with is AMAZING considering I’m a pretty injury prone person. Return of serve was a little hard and volleys definitely died at the net but I believe a little adjustment will be enough to fix that. I’m glad I found my racquet and am definitely sticking with it.
I bought this racquet, well the 100 Tour cos I like a slightly heavier bat. Got to say it took me a couple of weeks to get used to it, but I do like it. Def. lower tension is the way to go. Access the power without losing too much on the control. It does feel more comfortable on the baseline than at the net….then again, that just could be me. Ha ha! Solid racquet - esp. the Tour.
Maybe you have to string it loose because it's so flexible AND so light (especially head light)? Most light frames get their power from being stiff. So a frame that is both light and flexible needs to get its power from the strings and from racquet head speed. If you're a beginner then your racquet head speed is slow and looser strings become a necessity.
Went with technifibre x-one biphase at 55 and it didn't work. Went down to 50 and the Triax and WOW. what a difference. Will try the Luxilon next at 48. Thanks!
I liked the sound of the Clash, but when I tried a mates Clash 100 it felt a lot stiffer than it has been made out to be. What you said about the racket stiffening as you swing faster may explain it, but I don't like the idea of that. The old Pro Staff Classic 6.1 with kevlar used to do that, and I never got used to that stick , either. My mate also had his racquet restrung with Blast 16 at 46, and he agreed that was too boardy, too. So this is clearly (as you imply) a stick that operates over a very narrow range of strings, another quirk to be wary of.
This is what Head Youtek was supposed to do. Play softly but stiffen up on hard hits. The problem with the Youtek racquets is low twistweight. They fixed that with the Innegra models. No clue if Youtek actually worked.
Great beginners racket , i have had one now for almost a year and it has helped me immensely. Highly recommend to anyone struggling to learn to swing to try this racket.
Thanks for the video, very interesting and professional man. I demoed this racket one year ago but with a poly at medium/high tension and I hated the racquet. Some people told me to try it with a different string and maybe lower tension but I didn't have the opportunity. Thanks for your comments now I'm sure it's the way to go with this racquet thanks to your feedback. I would give it another try. However I tried the Tour version with a hybrid string (soft poly/synthetic gut) at lower tension and I loved. Maybe a bit heavy for my beginner/intermediate lever the Tour version (I'm around 3.5 or 4.0).
When you are looking for a racquet be aware of a few key factors. Weight and swing weight. You can have two racquets which could weigh the same but one may be harder to swing than the other if more weight is distributed in the upper part than the other. Balance, whether it is head light or head heavy or even. Stiffness. If you are on the pro tour you want stiff if a guy or gal with arm issues you want not stiff.
I tried Clash 100 as loaner from friend who wanted me to buy it. Power spin and very forgiving like you say but there wasn't much feel. This guy wanted more head weight hunch he had his strings tighter which gave that board like feel. I'll see if I can find one strung less tight. The other con as I'm short I get more leverage from a longer racket. The Clash 100 felt noticeably short which was a deal breaker for me.

They are both good in their own ways. The clash will have a very dampened, soft and flexible feel. The Ezone is a bit firmer more like a regular racket. If you cannot get use to the Clash feel the Ezone is a great alternative. Try both and see what you like. You will see what I mean. Thanks for watching!
My problem with this racquet is the inconsistency in feel... Even with the right string setup this racquet feels too different depending on your swing speed, this makes it way too erratic. It's a 100sq headsize but the sweetspot is relatively small, if u hit just little outside the control suffers way too much.. Personally I don't get the hype about this racquet line, the selling point is the comfort for sure, but overall the feel of the racquet is mediocre with a very erratic stringbed...
I agree. I found it slightly uncomfortable and a little unstable on off hits. I found the Dunlop SX300 more forgiving and dare I say a more predictable feedback.
Really don't know what the hype about this racket is. I have several rackets and unlike all the others, this one is really like playing with a noodle. Very unpredictable and it is now lying around unused after a few outings.
Located in Sweden Using the 100 Tour/Pro, I've always strung it with RPM Blast and for the last 6 months dropped the tension to 20kg. Will most likely drop it to 16-18kg for the clay season. I'm really interested in your lead modifications, would you mind goind through this in a video. Thx for really good information. //Niklas
@@danielpardo2409 I know, but I said it because I usually string my racquet between 55 and 57 pounds (25-16 kg), that's why I find nikas' tensions very low to play for me, but each tennis player will play with what's comfortable to them, so it's nice to see that
I play at 5.0 and switched to the clash 100 pro when it came out (before the 98) I string with luxilon smart on mains at 38 and Luxilon 4g rough at 40 on crosses, not many other rackets let you generate power and give a chance to get back into a point from nowhere.

If you volley correctly it works well....if you are used to the traditional push or punch volley where you adjust how much you push into it like that, it can be a problem.
@tennisspin, I'm surprised you like Clash as I thought you prefer to feel your shots. Clash, for me, is a bit too dampened and I tend to overhit my shots a lot. However, it really helps to take the vibrations off your arm if you suffer from tennis elbow. I'm keen to find out how you make the racquet head heavier than the stock. Do you mind sharing some tips on adding lead tapes to racquets? Thanks =)
I bought this racket when it was launched, and it was okay. Nothing to crazy if you ask me. It's definetly different. But does different means better? Not necessarily. Most beginner/intermediate players love it but most advance kinda dislike it.
Great review! Really looking to buy a Wilson, but just saw that they don't make grips 4 5/8s anymore, at least for the Blade or Clash. You also have a big hands, how are you playing with a Wilson? If using a shrink sleeve, does it change a lot the racquet? Thanks!
The Clash is REAL. I demoed 3, (100-98) and a Head MP. I've was lead to believe that the flexibility was similar to either a wooden stick, old school graphite or like a original 200G. To me, I didn't feel it was very flexible. I hit the stick with "hack" players to high end college players. The racket works!!!! Control, power, etc. When I was hitting with average players, the stick allowed me to hit well with control. When hitting with extreme pace from the baseline, all the balls were landing on the baseline. I was amazed along with my opponents. Its a TOP SPIN racket and not a Flat hitting racket!!!! I would lean more towards the 98 sq. in or the 100. For me, the stick was too light but maneuverable and string sensitive. But at $250 a racket, I can't justify the expense. I'd rather get a flexible frame between 59-63 RA and a low tension, soft 18-20 gauge gut or poly string between 35-40 pounds. The current Head MP, to me, played the same. IMO, soon all racket makers will follow this technology.
Really like your channel. After working in a tennis shop for 15 years, I see you have found a way to inform and enjoy the deadly quiet hours of each day. We had several clay courts to break up the monotony. Keep posting I like your insight.

Great comments, every time I see one of your videos I learn something. Usually, racquet sellers are afraid to say anything negative about racquets. They usually say "I really like this one" regardless. It's refreshing to hear some honest opinions.
I am intermediate player 3.5-4.0 with dependable strokes . I like to attack with my forehand and approach shots and volleys with some success. I play onehand and under pressure I use backhand slice a lot. I can hit first serve with power but I have shoulder pain for a while. Do you think this racket could be good for bad shoulder? Is 100 ok for onehandbackhand?
@@FelixArdLykke really really excellent for a bad shoulder serves and for one handed backhand. Would recommend a dependable string with it, solinco confidential or Weiss cable. Would not recommend gut strings as would be too trampoline like.

Now that my forearm pain is gone, I'm gonna try the recommended LXN Smart 125 at 44lbs.
Just tried out Luxilon Smart 1.25 at 44 lbs mains and crosses on my Clash 100 tonight. Love it. Way better than my current set up of Razor Code mains and Prince synth gut crosses at 52 lbs. Power and accuracy way better, same with volleys and serve astonishing.
This racket is gold. I play competitively against 4.5 to open players in Canada. Yes, it’s light. Yes, it’s soft. It’s not great for volleying at net. But I can baseline and serve very heavy even with this 295g model. Most importantly, I suffered serious wrist problems with an extreme pro and made the switch. Strung at 48 lbs with lux Alu power, it generates no vibration in the arm or wrist. It’s amazing.

The Clash 100 is a very unique and comfortable racquet. When you first play with it, you have to make some adjustments to your ground strokes but it then works fine. I have mine at 52 lbs but I might try it at 47 in view of your advice.

I have the 4 of the 100 tour. Lead on 9.30/2.30, 12 and silicone and lead inside the handle. Strung up with 17 Snake Bite or 17 Tourna Black 7 on main and 16L Luxilon Element on the cross. All strung up very similar due to high breakage. 56lbs on main and cross. Slowly liking the setup. I've tried all the tension between 45lbs to 70lbs. I personally love it at 56lbs. Racket weighs 368 on all my setup. Btw I've tried all Luxilon Polys and Natural guts and all the Babolat Polys and Tecnifibre 4s and bunch of different kirschbaum and solinco strings. Currently using Wilson Baiardo Stringer with 20% prestretch.
Previously used Babolat Pure Strike at 68lbs with full Snake Bite or Tourna Black 7 with same lead setup.
This is my own personal experience.
I love the spin, comfort and baseline about the racket except volley and serve. I also noticed that for flat hitting, this racket doesn't work. Also trying to put extreme spins doesn't work well due to the thick beam. This racket favors people who likes to spin the ball moderately and who strokes the racket at 80% or less and not at 100%. Hitting big doesn't work well. I wished this racket would have more plow through to hit some big winners.
My primary racquet is a 2019 Babolat Pure Aero, but I play tested the Clash and really liked it. To me it was similar to the Aero except that it wasn't as stiff. I string my own and experiment with different strings at different tensions. My go to string is the Luxilon Smart at 44lbs, and I've tried both the 125 and the 130 versions. I can't say I have a preference between the two, but the 130 lasted forever, over 6 months! I just strung with the 125, so I don't know if it will stay playable as long. For comparison, I get only a month out of the Weiss Cannon Ultra Cable string.

I started tennis using the Clash 108 and it’s been 3 yrs since. Don’t know how other racket works but this works well for me. I play every other day.
I've tried so many string combinations on my Wilson Clash 100: Wilson Champion's choice (Luxilon Alu Rough + Natural Gut on mains), Luxilon Smart, Ashaway, Babolat RPM Blast, etc. But the best strings that matched well with the Wilson Clash 100 is the Yonex PolyTour Pro 17 gauge (1.20). I set mine at 50 pounds. The two are perfect together. Great spin (drops, lobs, topspin, underspin), great control, power is just right.

I have the Clash 100 - Been using it for a year now and absolutely love it! I also have the Ultra v3 Pro. I have been experimenting adding weight to my clash because there is a 14g difference between the two at the moment. I really enjoy the weight of my Ultra and its a great racquet, however I struggle to find the sweet spot as easily as I do with the Clash.
I have tried a few strings in the Clash 100. First was Wilson sensation (54lbs) - hated it, it lost tension really quickly and just felt wrong. After that I tried Luxion Alu power Big Banger smooth (54lbs)- it was good but decided to keep experimenting. Coach recommended trying Luxion 4G rough (48lbs) and whilst I got a lot more spin I found I had pain in my arm below my elbow... swapped back to Luxion Alu power Big banger smooth (50lbs) and the pain went away. My arm has gotten even better the more tension I add each restring (went from 50 to 52, and currently at 54lbs and my arm feels great!).
Couldn't recommend this racquet enough, it's great!

Are you still using the clash? Did you ever try a low tension Gut with the ultra? I love that racquet so much and really hate to switch but I think it’s going to help my arm in the end.

True. Also if a product gets a good selling kick-off then people blindly buy it just because others buy it. They assume that it has to be great because it's being sold well. That is the same effect that we can widely see on the Internet like on amazon, ebay, aliexpress etc. if something is the top selling product, the amount of orders grow even more only because of that.
I still think that a tennis racket is extremely personal choice and as long as you buy a quality racket which means it's not from the low price range, it's a good buy. It might not be cut out for you but is definitely a good racket. The key here is to rent a few of them and then decide. All those detailed specs are not for people like us, the pros might see the difference because they are fully aware of their equipment and needs but I believe for amateurs it wouldn't make a difference in a blind test at all. Just my opinion, tho.
Its a great raquet! Just bought my friends 98 last couple weeks. He didnt like it. Tried it for a year with many strings. I asked o borrow it for a hit and after that session sold my Radical Pro 360's and bought a couple 98's! Fyi i cant say enough say enough things about this raquet.

I had my first Clash strung with Wilson’s recommended ALU Silver @ 52lbs. A little harsh for me. I had my second strung with Technifibre X-ONE Biphase @ 48lbs, and that is magic so far. Hits good, feels good, even sounds good. I’ll be getting the first restrung like the second. Thanks for the tension recommendation!
Very nice review. I generally prefer stiff racquets. I love my Babolat Pure Drive (2012). There's a crispness that I get that is largely absent in other frames. This Wilson Clash 100 as you described reminds me of Prince CTS Vortex. I really miss that racquet. I wish it didn't crack on me. If I had to pick a racquet as an all time favorite and overall comfort, Prince CTS Vortex midplus (100 sq. in.). Other than that, I'm sticking with my Pure Drives. It was too bad that the Prince Vortex didn't handle high tensions very well. But it was the most comfortable racquet I have ever used.

its because this racket has very low stiffness rating, which allows it to cushion the ball more rather than having the vibration transfer to the arm from a stiffer racket. a softer string helps tennis elbow too, like natural gut, if not able to afford then multifilament which was designed to mimic natural gut. it is cheaper, but not as good
If its really bad, I am a 4.5 player and literally stopped playing for a year because of tennis elbow. I made 2 changes. Shifted to a softer racket but the biggest change...I used KT Tape. Recommended the tape to another friend with elbow issues, same result. I hate to send out pseudoscience BS normally but my guess is that KT supports some of my arm flex without transferring stress onto the tendons. Hope it helps

Thanks for the video. I recently switched from the Clash 100 to the Pro Staff 97 CV. The Clash just got pushed around way too much at net. I mixed up stringing them quite a bit in the year I played with them, but mostly I used a shaped poly like Signum Pro Xperience or Lxln ALU Power Rough - strung at 53#. For my pro staffs I’ve got one with Hyper G at 53# and one with synth gut at 55#. Loving those sticks but feeling a little stress in my elbow I never had with my Clashes.

Totally Agree on the strings tension in the Clash 100 (normal and tour). I am using square Tour Bite Soft (1.20) at 22kg in the main and another round poly (1.3) at 19kg in the cross. I have tried different combinations and I noticed 3 interesting things: The 3kg difference between the main and cross give additional feel and spin. The round poly is a little bit slicker for the tour bite to slide and snap back on. And the difference of tickness 1.3 in the cross and 1.2 is nicer as well, but i cannot pinpoint it yet why. Like it makes the whole combination more consistent and some more spin again as the 1.2 is forced to bend a little bit more..
The round poly's that I am currently trying in the cross are: Head Sonic Pro, Luxilon adrenaline
The ticker round poly's in the cross mean less friction between the mains and cross
I am also going the try the luxilon alu power and the smart in the main to see if I'll stay with my tour bite normal and tour bite soft
A hibrid like this also lowers the cost of frequent restringing.

I was scared to have any poly in my racquet so strung my clash with TF X-one BF @ 45 lbs full bed. I love the feel and my arm is so much better even with my OHBH!. I played with a clash 100 within 2 week ago. It swung fast, gave more power than I was accustomed to gave access to lots of top spin. It is fun to rally in a hit session. I wish I had it to play a couple sets of doubles. It was strung with a full bed of black poly.
Ordered 3 when they first came out. Love them. Recommend them to everyone I come in contact with. Have tried many different setups; both tensions and string types. Currently playing Gosen OG Sheep Micro 17 at 46lbs and it may be the best blend of control and power yet. Still want to try full bed natural gut and a poly at 35lbs, but I think what is have now will probably win out.

I am using it with lxn smart at 48lbs. Plays really well, lots of control. Once the tension goes down a little, it gets even better. The suggestion from this video really helped me. Tks
When you lower the tension to 48lbs, do the mains move to much going east west or west east?
I used a 98 sq in Clash with the new Alu Power VIBE at 57lbs and it played well. It is designed for racquets with lower RA stiffness ratings.
4.0 Player. I change rackets and strings A LOT. That said, I have been hitting the 100 for almost a year now. Typical setup Tonic gut on mains at 54 with Lux ALU Power at 51 on crosses; a little lower in the winter. Zero shoulder pain, great feel, power and control. Love the sound of this setup. Agree with whoever said it can get pushed around a bit by heavy hitters so I added some tungsten putty in the handle so maybe the tour version? Will try lower tension and the Smart string as recommended. Caveat: I did recently buy an EZone 100 which feels significantly firmer (a little harsh now that I'm used to the Clash). Of all the sticks I've played with the Clash is the first one that I can say is truly different and not just marketing hype.
Using it with Velocity 1.30 at 52 lbs and it is working as well.
I tired the Clash, the Pro Staff, and the Blade and I loved the Blade. Just worked best for me.
Great review, and great insights as always! Personally, though, I can't stand racquets (and strings) that advertise different flexes for different shots/swings. This idea has been around for a while starting with the Prince Vortex back in the day (at least that's the earliest I can recall), and having played with that for a little while back then, and then playing with the Luxilon Smart string last year in a Yonex Vcore Pro 97 for the heck of it, it all still feels the same to me- inconsistent. Touch shots are where you really see how goofy these things are- drop volleys either end up at the bottom of the net, or get launched (weakly) into mid-court for an easy put-away by your opponent. Similar questionable response on drop shots- never know how it's going to get launched. However, I can see where it's beneficial for beginner/intermediate players because the sweet spot is rather large and overall very forgiving, but advanced players need to know exactly how their racquet will perform under every condition. That's why there aren't any tour pros using Clash racquets. Again, just my personal experience from this kind of "tech".

@@pontusschroder8361 Well, in short yes. But the variance mostly comes on the touch shots, in my experience. When you hit drives (i.e. topspin, flat), your body is more adept at holding the acceleration constant as you swing into the ball. That's natural because that's the shot we've always wanted to hit when we grew up learning, and is also the most common shot hit throughout most points. However, when you try to hit delicate touch shots, where you typically have to decelerate the racquet into the ball, well, we're not always consistent on the stroke path or the rate of deceleration, and if you have a racquet and strings that react to those discrepancies, then it's very hard to tell how the ball is going to react when struck. I'm sure that in theory if you put the racquet on a machine that replicates the same shot over and over, it will perform the same way each time, but the fine adjustments made by your hand and body that occur moments before a delicately hit shot more often than not gives results incongruent to what you are expecting.
@@williamko5031 My experience is the same. I demoed and noticed the soft feel, and then was very surprised how much power I could get on my serve and hard ground strokes. Then... I hit some volleys and just couldn't find a way to control direction and depth. I play serve and volley and a lot of doubles, and my game is dependent on good volleys, so that was it for me.
@@pontusschroder8361 I think it's like having a hammer head on the end of a bamboo stick. You swing smooth and fast and the hammer head does the work with consistent power. You hold it firm without much swing and the bamboo gives with a mushy and inconsistent response.
I use 2 strings in my Clash 98. Length string: Luxilon 4G. Width string Luxilon savage. Both 23kg (50.7 Lbs)

Hey there! First of all - great vids, love them and watch them regulary. I play the Wilson Clash 100 with the Luxilon Smart string. I really love that combo. Last time it was strung with a tension of 23kg/23kg (recommendation of the tennis store due the sommer weather conditions). Luxilon recommends a lower tension of 22/22kg (or even lower). As I now need to get my rackets strung again, what would you recommend 23/23kg or 22/22kg? Many thanks in advance and best regards from Germany!

I put Tecnifibre Triax 17g at 52 in it. When the racket came - it was already somewhere around 46. And balls jump off it. You touch, the ball flys. It seams like I use 110 inches racket (I have clash 100). It is nice and soft, super easy for the arm, yet completely unpredictable and uncontrollable. It takes so many efforts to be precise. When I have say Pro Staff in my hands with tighter firmer strings, I feel like I can direct ball wherever I want after playing with Clash 100 + Triax at 44-46 lb now. Well, I didn’t use Lxn Smart or poly in it, maybe it will be the game changer, but after my experience I really doubt about loose tension in a such powerful racket.
Comments/critiques about volleys is spot on, so is the comments about the ease of spin on the ball.

My goto string setup after trying different combinations such as hybrid, I like Cyclone Tour 18 gauge at 55/53 lbs.
Since string tends to loose tension after couple of days, I strung at even higher at 57/55 lbs.

I have the Wilson Clash 100 Tour and I love it. I used to play with the babolat Pure Drive that I loved but I had an arm injury so I had to choose a softer frame. I've put the Luxilon Smart string in it at 52 pds of tension... now that it has lost some tension and feels about 48-50 lbs it's a pretty good feel. So now I can play Tennis without the arm pain.
I've Three string settings. 52 pds with Babolat Xcel.. It didn't last long enough so I decided to try it with the Tecnifire Xone BiPhase in the mains and Alu Power 125 in the cross at 52 pds and that was a very nice feeling but didn't last long enough.
Next time I'll restring my racquet it will be at 50 or 48 pds. It's really hard to compare cause it is a unique technology but if I had to compare it to something else.. I'd say, similar to a Babolat Pure Drive with slightly less power but way softer on the arm.
use head rip control 16 it is the most durable multi i get 2-3 months of play before it breaks and i hit quite hard like 60 hours as i play 8 hours a weeek roughly

Great video , tried upgrade from my old Prince. Demo with yonex VCore 98, Yonex Black, lightier, and Babolat Pure Drive. Finally a chance with Wilson Clash. Oh my God! Manueveravility, nice feel, shots that usually fall in net incredibly pass and win. Its different. Like fill your bad game holes. Yes the volley not works so well. But im working to use it. Mine stringued with allupower rouhg 1.25. Low tension. Nice felling. Nice racquet .
Just played with one strung @ 50lbs with some spin focused poly string (don’t know which one) @ 50lbs and I absolutely loved it. Never had more control over my shots. Lacked a little bit power but 100% worth the tradeoff at my level. I was able to swing confidently and fast and still have the ball land in with a good margin from the lines, whereas with other racquets I’ve tried I’d send them straight out even with higher tensions.. and the fact that it’s so flexible allowed me to finish the session with ZERO pain with is AMAZING considering I’m a pretty injury prone person. Return of serve was a little hard and volleys definitely died at the net but I believe a little adjustment will be enough to fix that. I’m glad I found my racquet and am definitely sticking with it.

I bought this racquet, well the 100 Tour cos I like a slightly heavier bat. Got to say it took me a couple of weeks to get used to it, but I do like it. Def. lower tension is the way to go. Access the power without losing too much on the control. It does feel more comfortable on the baseline than at the net….then again, that just could be me.

Maybe you have to string it loose because it's so flexible AND so light (especially head light)? Most light frames get their power from being stiff. So a frame that is both light and flexible needs to get its power from the strings and from racquet head speed. If you're a beginner then your racquet head speed is slow and looser strings become a necessity.
Went with technifibre x-one biphase at 55 and it didn't work. Went down to 50 and the Triax and WOW. what a difference. Will try the Luxilon next at 48. Thanks!
I liked the sound of the Clash, but when I tried a mates Clash 100 it felt a lot stiffer than it has been made out to be. What you said about the racket stiffening as you swing faster may explain it, but I don't like the idea of that. The old Pro Staff Classic 6.1 with kevlar used to do that, and I never got used to that stick , either.
My mate also had his racquet restrung with Blast 16 at 46, and he agreed that was too boardy, too. So this is clearly (as you imply) a stick that operates over a very narrow range of strings, another quirk to be wary of.
This is what Head Youtek was supposed to do. Play softly but stiffen up on hard hits. The problem with the Youtek racquets is low twistweight. They fixed that with the Innegra models. No clue if Youtek actually worked.
Happy with what I use but I have my eye on this racquet in the 98 version for the second generation

Some people told me to try it with a different string and maybe lower tension but I didn't have the opportunity. However I tried the Tour version with a hybrid string (soft poly/synthetic gut) at lower tension and I loved. Maybe a bit heavy for my beginner/intermediate lever the Tour version (I'm around 3.5 or 4.0).

When you are looking for a racquet be aware of a few key factors. Weight and swing weight. You can have two racquets which could weigh the same but one may be harder to swing than the other if more weight is distributed in the upper part than the other. Balance, whether it is head light or head heavy or even. Stiffness. If you are on the pro tour you want stiff if a guy or gal with arm issues you want not stiff.
I tried Clash 100 as loaner from friend who wanted me to buy it. Power spin and very forgiving like you say but there wasn't much feel. This guy wanted more head weight hunch he had his strings tighter which gave that board like feel. I'll see if I can find one strung less tight. The other con as I'm short I get more leverage from a longer racket. The Clash 100 felt noticeably short which was a deal breaker for me.

They are both good in their own ways. The clash will have a very dampened, soft and flexible feel. The Ezone is a bit firmer more like a regular racket. If you cannot get use to the Clash feel the Ezone is a great alternative. Try both and see what you like. You will see what I mean. Thanks for watching!

My problem with this racquet is the inconsistency in feel... Even with the right string setup this racquet feels too different depending on your swing speed, this makes it way too erratic. It's a 100sq headsize but the sweetspot is relatively small, if u hit just little outside the control suffers way too much.. Personally I don't get the hype about this racquet line, the selling point is the comfort for sure, but overall the feel of the racquet is mediocre with a very erratic stringbed...
I agree. I found it slightly uncomfortable and a little unstable on off hits. I found the Dunlop SX300 more forgiving and dare I say a more predictable feedback.

Really don't know what the hype about this racket is. I have several rackets and unlike all the others, this one is really like playing with a noodle. Very unpredictable and it is now lying around unused after a few outings.
I used the Clash from a local tennis shop and as you said, it felt like a board. If I could only get them to restring it at a low tension...

Using the 100 Tour/Pro, I've always strung it with RPM Blast and for the last 6 months dropped the tension to 20kg.
Will most likely drop it to 16-18kg for the clay season.

@@danielpardo2409 I know, but I said it because I usually string my racquet between 55 and 57 pounds (25-16 kg), that's why I find nikas' tensions very low to play for me, but each tennis player will play with what's comfortable to them, so it's nice to see that
I play at 5.0 and switched to the clash 100 pro when it came out (before the 98) I string with luxilon smart on mains at 38 and Luxilon 4g rough at 40 on crosses, not many other rackets let you generate power and give a chance to get back into a point from nowhere.
The more i use the Clash 98 the more i am impressed!! Luxilon Alu Power 54 pds !! Love it

If you volley correctly it works well....if you are used to the traditional push or punch volley where you adjust how much you push into it like that, it can be a problem.
I looked at it but went with the Head Speed MP…I don’t regret my choice

@tennisspin, I'm surprised you like Clash as I thought you prefer to feel your shots. Clash, for me, is a bit too dampened and I tend to overhit my shots a lot. However, it really helps to take the vibrations off your arm if you suffer from tennis elbow. I'm keen to find out how you make the racquet head heavier than the stock.

I bought this racket when it was launched, and it was okay. Nothing to crazy if you ask me. It's definetly different. But does different means better? Not necessarily. Most beginner/intermediate players love it but most advance kinda dislike it.
Can it be assumed that the Clash 108 version also plays better at a lower range tension ?
Yes it does...i use Vokyl Cyclone at 42lbs.
Great review! Really looking to buy a Wilson, but just saw that they don't make grips 4 5/8s anymore, at least for the Blade or Clash. You also have a big hands, how are you playing with a Wilson? If using a shrink sleeve, does it change a lot the racquet?

A shrink sleeve is adding about 16g to your racket - so you might go better for a lighter „L“ version instead

The Clash is REAL. I demoed 3, (100-98) and a Head MP. I've was lead to believe that the flexibility was similar to either a wooden stick, old school graphite or like a original 200G. To me, I didn't feel it was very flexible. I hit the stick with "hack" players to high end college players. The racket works!!!! Control, power, etc. When I was hitting with average players, the stick allowed me to hit well with control. When hitting with extreme pace from the baseline, all the balls were landing on the baseline. I was amazed along with my opponents. Its a TOP SPIN racket and not a Flat hitting racket!!!! I would lean more towards the 98 sq. in or the 100. For me, the stick was too light but maneuverable and string sensitive. But at $250 a racket, I can't justify the expense. I'd rather get a flexible frame between 59-63 RA and a low tension, soft 18-20 gauge gut or poly string between 35-40 pounds. The current Head MP, to me, played the same. IMO, soon all racket makers will follow this technology.

I played clash 100 ... not good for me. I play with RF97A ... best frame ever... and very demanding frame too
New Blade v7 has a similar technology... I think a new Blade v7 is probably best racquet in 2020 (totaly different of countervail version)...
Sold my clash and bought a pure aero. So happy with my decision.
