lolol I've been knitting for two + years and when you were wrapping the yarn around the two needles, I was like, "How is she going to do this? Do I bring in another needle?" Then when you starting knitting them, I nearly fell out of my chair. Genius! I love it :):):)
very clear. Makes sense for the first time. I have been knitting for over 50 years. And though I use continental method this tutorial worked for me. Old dogs can learn new tricks.
Patty McPhee I totaly agree with you, this old dog doesnt resist change, just slower to get on board. Since I get bored easily, I look for challenging pattern designs, however, I find some newer knitting methods, given a chance, turn out to make for more interesting experiences. Long tail cast on, magic needles, who could have guessed?
This video is wonderful! I've been teaching for 40 years and you do a terrific job. I'm an advanced beginner and wanted to learn how to knit socks. You hit a home run for me--toe up with magic loop and excellent instructions. I'm practicing with worsted-weight yarn and a US 5 needle and I'm so excited with my results!
Have been a sock knitter for years, but haven't tried toe-up socks, until now! I think your video and the cast-on you show just may be the ticket! Thank you.
I am a great grandma, just learning to knit. We live in a very rural area, and don't have access to yarn shops and classes like larger towns have. Your toe up tutorial with tiny needles, and sock yarn is exactly what I need. It is very well explained, and goes slow enough I can follow. Most tutorials use worsted weight for the demo. Thank you so much!
Your sweater in the introduction is beautiful. You are such a talented artist and taylor. Thank You so much Tina. You have shared so, so much information that now I am aware of the whole anatomy in the construction of the body of the sock.
This is a fantastic tutorial! Thank you for taking the time to create it, it will help me greatly since I always knit cuff down and would like to knit my socks toe up to help ease the arthritis pain in my hands that I struggle with when casting on.
This is the "most excellent sock tutorial" I have seen to date using TH-cam for over 3 years for knitting tutorials! I keep coming back to this tutorial for better understanding because I find that gauge and technique of stitches are so important along with the excellent heel technique in "Blooming knittter" tutorials. Thanks Tina for being one of My top; most excellent TH-cam Knitting Ladies.
I know this is an older tutorial, but ohmygosh, you are my hero.....this is my first pair of socks, though I have been knitting for more than 50 years. Thank you so much for sharing . This actually made it so easy....and I am doing two at a time on separate needles...too confusing for me on one set of needles so far. Thank you, thank you. thank you......:)
I watched this when you first posted it 2 years ago, but I am just now getting around to actually knitting the socks!! After a disaster of trying to invent my own: it is in time out and I have started this tutorial sock!! LOL I've only ever done an afterthought heel & I really wanted to learn this way so here I am!! Your tutorial is AWESOME! you explain everything very well & I am almost to the heel part & ready for the next video! Thank you for making such AWESOME tutorials!! :) God Bless, Shannon :)
Thank you thank you thank you. I've been looking for a good tutorial on sock making. This is by far the best. Been and bought yarn and needles and am starting straight away.
thanks for doing this .I'm new to knitting socks but so far I'm doing this. thanks for the tip about starting both at the same time, I'll have to get another needle set . thanks for your help . now on to the heel.
I have been knitting socks (DPNs) for years but wanted to try the toe up with circulars. I stumbled on your video yesterday and loved it! You explain things so well that they seem so easy and I will be trying this tonight. I almost panicked because I couldn't find it at first because I could not figure out how to "pin" it. Thank you so much for this fantastic video. Love it!!
Thanks for a great tutorial. I am left handed but I am going to try and learn how to knit right handed with the continental knitting . you make this sock pattern look easy.
I am a newbie knitter, started with a loom and am now into needles and still use my loom too... I have been wanting to learn to make socks and love this tutorial! Can't wait to pick up the pattern on Ravelry and get started!!!
scrapfaire That is awesome to hear. Please feel free to contact me if you have any trouble. I try to respond to emails, PMs and such at least once a week, so please forgive me if I don't get back to you immediately.
Excellent detailed demo thank you for such clear and very detailed steps to get on with this sock making business. I can hardly wait to see my first pair. Again thank you so much.
Thank you for a good video. This was a clear presentation of a Turkish cast-on. I personally would do a true lifted increase by knitting into the stitch below the next stitch on the needle because it's more decorative and makes the side of the toe sturdier, but the M1 tightened up with a twist is nice for a clean looking toe. Thank you for putting this on You Tube and making it part of a whole series on making socks.
PugLover So glad you enjoyed it. Absolutely you should do the increase that you like best. I feel like there is really no wrong way to do something as long as you like it that is all that matters.
This is a wonderful tutorial. I was having such a tough time casting on toe up socks - you have given me the tools I need to do this now. I am going to get your pattern and get started!
You are a ~ fantastic ~ teacher. I downloaded your pattern- love the instruction and video. very enjoyable and easy to understand. I am now a sock star. Thanks so very very much. Also subscribed to all your channels~ happy dance! New fan!
I have been watching lots of video tutorials on knitting socks and have been very disappointed and very frustrated. It seems ALL the videos I watched did NOT explain or show good close ups of what they were doing so that I could SEE and UNDERSTAND everything they were doing. But, I am so happy and excited that I found you because NOW I really think I can knit socks for my family members now. Thank you so much for these great tutorials.
I purchased your pattern and it’s brilliant. I’ve successfully knit 3 pairs of baby socks and I’m now confident in knitting adult ones. Got confused with the short row wraps so I’ve used a German short row which works better for me. Good tip about the ball winder which I shall be purchasing. Thank you for a great tutorial
Your voice is so soft and a pleasure to listen to and y're a very sweet lovely Lady. I have never made socks before and your tutorial is just great for a beginner. Wonderfully explained with foot measurements and gauge. Wow congratulations. Thanks for sharing and caring. xxx
Bloomingknitter This is a Dummy's call for help. I was thrilled and excited when I completed ONE SOCK for my 2 year grandson. Guess what, it was a success but the kids feet are rather long and my sock was 1" too short! That's OK, it was a try. The only problem I have is the ribbing. I've never knitted on circular needles and had problems with the last purl stitch at the end of both needles. Dunno how it twisted and formed a kinda bridge on both sides of the stitch. The purl stitch had disappeared. I knitted the funny "bridge stitch" as I wanted to try this sock on the kid. Please, if you are able to understand my problem, I'll be truly grateful if could you make a video on "how to correct this stitch"? I'll be going for a spine operation next week and wanna make socks as its light to hold in the hand instead of a cumbersome cardigan. I wanna some distraction, I hate to mourn in pain. Many thanks for the great videos you share with us on You Tube. Y're exceptional. Hugs xxx
jojosubrbo You can buy knitters pride carbons just about at any yarn store. I did a quick Google Search and Webs sells them. The size I usually use is US 0, 2.0 mm.
Hi I can crochet socks. But I really like the feel of knitted one. I am going to use your tutorial. It will be my first pair. Wish me luck. My aunts also say warsh and crosst I love it that you do too. best regards to you .
I just wanted to thank you for your generous heart and sharing this wonderful pattern, I have been knitting blankets since I was 14 years old, never venturing to other patterns for fear of not understanding the lingo of the pattern, but thanks to you, I started on my first pair of socks, its slow going I have watched your video a dozen times (LOL)!!! Your instruction is perfect, I wanted to ask where can I get knitting needles like yours, they are spectacularly beautiful!!! Once again thank you for sharing and may God continue to bless your hands! : ) Myrian
Thank you so much for this video! It has unlocked my ability to knit toe-up. I bought the pattern and it is working great for making socks that fit my big feet! I will definitely be making a bunch more pairs using this toe up method. Thanks!
Dear Bloomingknitter, I have been to 3 different knitting classes and have even watched online videos that seemed so easy. I even knit a pair of socks for my daughter which she loved and is waiting for more. My problem is that I have not enjoyed the process, BUT I want badly to knit socks and have always wanted to. I like the toe up, but Judy's Magic cast on was too fidelly(?) for me. I hated 2 circulars. With cuff down, I had trouble with the grafting. I decided to start up again when I watched your video and the turkish cast on. I am inspired. I plan to start again. I've weighed my 2 balls to make sure I have enough yarn. I have watched video and I am ready to cast on while watching again. Thanks so much. Can't wait to finish a pair.
Thank you soooo much for making this video! I have been wanting to try knitting socks but have never seen a video I could follow. Your the best and you make it look sooo easy. I have made socks on a round loom so I understand the technique better than if I never made socks before. I'm a visual learner so this will help me tremendously master socks😄 I hope - lol
Man... I love that yarn. You did a beautiful job dyeing it. I would buy some myself! I'm having a hard time even paying attention to the video because I'm so focused on the yarn xD
I have learned this loop method years ago starting only with 3 loops, the tip is perfect than, but I have been making only gloves and socks without the heal that I have never learned, so it´s about time.
Thank you taking the time out of your schedule to make this video for those of us that REAL WANT TO LEARN !!! One word being said the way you did doesn't mean anything at all !!! For myself i appreciate that you gave your time to teach !!! This video has taught me a lot especially since am a somewhat new sock knitter who always has a problem at the heel and toe. Ive wanted to learn it this way and your instructions and video did just that !!! May I ask what needles you are using ?? I thank you dearly and thank you for your time....... Ignore the picky people !!!!
I really loved this video how ever I did have one question. I love the way you use a different colour for the toe and heel on some of your socks, I really want to try this but I do not feel comfortable with changing the colour, if it is not to much trouble please could you do a video on specifically how to Change colours for toes and heels. Thanks
kieron pegg It really is simpler than you might think. All you need to do is drop the first yarn and pick up the second yarn, much like you would do if you run our of yarn and need to change to a new skein. If you still have questions please let me know.
I'm not a newbie sock knitter, but unhappy with some of the CO's I've tried. I like your CO because it doesn't leave loose stitches like the Figure-8. And your explanations of M1R and M1L are excellent.
Foxy P Thank you, I started with the figure 8 cast-on as well and hated it because it always left holes for me. So happy to hear that you enjoyed the tutorial.
I love how you did this? I'm confused about the increases or decreases but I'm just going to follow along with you and I'm going to use a 3 needle. I hope it's the right needle.in dying to make socks!
I love your video. But where is the continuation from this sock to do the heel? I saw another of your video which shows different yarn. Please help.. I was following this video with and I can't move on. I am a newbie.
+Bloomingknitter ...But you are really making a left leaning increase.when you say you are making a right leaning increase and making a right leaning increase when you say you are making a left leaning increase. Watch your video and look to see which way the stitch is going
Hi Bloomingknitter, I really liked both of your socks tutorial (toe-up and top-down versions). Do you have tutorial for "Socks with magic loop two socks at a time"? Thanks for reply.
Michele Stephenson Michele Stephenson I like the Turkish Cast-on better because I find that I don't have holes like I did with the Figure 8 Cast-on. I am not sure that I ever tried the Judy's Magic Cast-on, once I learned the Turkish Cast-on, and loved how simple it was, I never needed another cast on.
Bloomingknitter. Your way is even better than the Judy's Magic Cast-on :) I've just learned that method before seeing yours and after trying a few times it was fine and I liked not having a seam. But when I saw yours, I couldn't believe I could get the same result in an easier form! It's great :) Thanks!
So I’m a coward. I’ve not pushed myself to knit socks. I did try but didn’t finish. This video, even though 4 years old makes me feel Like I really can do it. I wish I could get the measurements sheet is it included in your pattern? Ok, I purchased this pattern and I see the calculations are there. I’m also glad you mentioned using two separate needles. I will work up blocks that way. I am so ready to buy all the supplies ❤️
Amazing video! I see you tension your yarn with your finger, I would love to know how to do this so I don't get a sore wrist. Do you think you could do a video on this? Thanks very much again, best wishes
I am excited to make some socks with you lol. I just need to know the length of the circular you are using??? Not sure if I missed that. I did see you use a size US 0 so I will get that also. I will be collecting everything I need then watch this again. Thank you sooo much!! :)
Sharon Keller I use 32" or 40" circular needles. Most of my Magic Loop Sock needles are 32", but I have tried the 40" circular and I like that length also.
Ivory Gilyard Her "acrossed" or "acrost" is actually what you and I would say as ACROSS! I wondered about that too until I realized she was just not properly pronouncing it. Working on two socks simultaneously but on separate needles can be so confusing. I simply took the time to learn the two-at-the-same-time method and with both on my needle and working sock B just as I did stock A gives me an identical pair without having to keep my place. It truly is so simple and much less confusing.
Can you please post the link to the next video in this series? I went to your youtube channel but couldn't find it amongst all the other videos on there.
I am a beginner and so far can only make scarves - definitely nothing that curves. I've been looking for some time now for an easy sock video and I think this one is the clearest. I have not tried it yet because I don't have the proper needles. I have a pack of 5mm doublepoint knitting needles as well as thicker circular needles. I think I will be able to pick this up more quickly with the circular ones, but mine are not nearly as thin as yours. I have some thick yarns at home...Could I use the thicker ones on thicker yarns or should I still use the thinner needles? Also, could you please send me the link to the next steps in this tutorial? I can't seem to find them on your site. Thanks so much for such a great video!
Nicole Filatov Here is a link to my Sock Tutorials Play list: th-cam.com/play/PLXCJii4vjifvfvFAPqv65IKqiD753qXmh.html Yes, you can use larger needles on thicker yarn, and for your first pair it might be easier to learn the concept if you use a thicker yarn and larger needles. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Hello, What brand of needles are you using? Signature Needles? Knitter's Pride Karbonz? What length do you prefer to use when knitting Magic Loop method for socks - one at a time or two at a time? Thank you. Really like your tutorials Great job! Ciao, Maison
maisonkase I knit my socks at the same time but on two separate circular needles. I tried the two at a time on one long circular, but I wasn't really fond of it. I am so happy to hear that you enjoyed the tutorial.
The best compliment I can give you is that you explained it in a way that actually made sense to me. Thank you!!
Lisette Rex So glad to hear that.
lolol I've been knitting for two + years and when you were wrapping the yarn around the two needles, I was like, "How is she going to do this? Do I bring in another needle?" Then when you starting knitting them, I nearly fell out of my chair. Genius! I love it :):):)
Very old method, been around a long time. Didn't you take any classes??
I've been looking at sock videos all day and this is by far the best one! Thanks so much for posting this video!
Sonia Guzman Thank you so much.
Good to know, thanks
very clear. Makes sense for the first time. I have been knitting for over 50 years. And though I use continental method this tutorial worked for me. Old dogs can learn new tricks.

That was the best and easiest toe up cast on ever! Thanks for sharing!
Melatina77 Thanks I am go glad you liked it.
I am a new knitter to socks and this was a fantastic way of doing it!
Artbarn That is an excellent idea to start with worsted weight yarn. That will make it so much easier for you to be able to see the stitches.
Have been a sock knitter for years, but haven't tried toe-up socks, until now!
I think your video and the cast-on you show just may be the ticket! Thank you.
Cornelia Bayley So glad I could introduce you to a new way of knitting socks. I prefer toe up socks to cuff down any day of the week.
So glad you enjoyed the tutorial.
This was excellent! I found it so easy to follow and I'm sharing it with my daughters and with the new sock knitters in our homeschool group.
Your sweater in the introduction is beautiful. You are such a talented artist and taylor. Thank You so much Tina. You have shared so, so much information that now I am aware of the whole anatomy in the construction of the body of the sock.
Thanks so much for your comments. I really appreciate when viewers get in touch.
This is a fantastic tutorial! Thank you for taking the time to create it, it will help me greatly since I always knit cuff down and would like to knit my socks toe up to help ease the arthritis pain in my hands that I struggle with when casting on.

I love your video. But where is the continuation from this sock to do the heel? I saw another of your video which shows different yarn. Please help.. I was following this video with and I can't move on. I am a newbie.
Love your videos can I ask what needles you are using for this
I used this and it is excellent.
angora Fiber, yes I am doing a make one right make one left for the increases.
+Bloomingknitter ...But you are really making a left leaning increase.when you say you are making a right leaning increase and making a right leaning increase when you say you are making a left leaning increase. Watch your video and look to see which way the stitch is going
Great instructions. Thank you.
thank you sooooo much!!!! best video I've seen!
Peggy Pennie Thanks.
Great video, thanks for helping me.
Hi Bloomingknitter, I really liked both of your socks tutorial (toe-up and top-down versions). Do you have tutorial for "Socks with magic loop two socks at a time"? Thanks for reply.
The yarn I'm using called for a 3 in my knitters pride needles so I think in set! I have knit picks but in 6, 7.
Good show
Bloomingknitter. Your way is even better than the Judy's Magic Cast-on :) I've just learned that method before seeing yours and after trying a few times it was fine and I liked not having a seam. But when I saw yours, I couldn't believe I could get the same result in an easier form! It's great :) Thanks!
I bought the pattern, now $5. I'm still having trouble with the toe, so I'm going to watch it again for the 100th time lol.
So I’m a coward. I’ve not pushed myself to knit socks. I did try but didn’t finish. This video, even though 4 years old makes me feel
Like I really can do it.
Thanks very much again, best wishes
kieron pegg I actually already have a video on that, here it is. th-cam.com/video/s_AGfX2SxoM/w-d-xo.html Let me know if you have any other questions.
When you do your increases isnt it a M1R so it leans right and the end increase is M1L so it leans left?
Great tutorial!!!
thank you very much
a really good videos
Ines Bionaz So glad you like this tutorial
Great tutorial!
I MISS You Tina. I pray for you whenever I think of you. I do hope and pray, you and "your" family is happy. I wish you joy:always.💜 Trisha
I purchased your pattern and on your video you said you were going to update to put markers on the short row heels. Have you and where can I find it
I am excited to make some socks with you lol.
Thank you! When I get ready with all my supplies I plan on making yours first :)
thank you for doing this
I have knitters pride needles in a 3! Yay!
Very helpful! Thank you.
What brand of needles are you using? Thank you. Very clear teaching!
Great video. Question: can you do turkish cast on for the toes and put them on the same needles. Magic look method.
I'd like to purchase this patter but I can't find it on ravelry. Can you share a direct link please? Thank you
thank you! very helpful
Still using your video after 11 years. Hope you are well.
Do you have DVD for your instructions on toe up socks
MsNowretired Sorry I do not have a DVD.
Brilliant video thank you😉
The video is descent but I get thrown off when she says "acrossed". Is that a knitting term? I looked it up online and can't find it.
Oh okay, thank you :)
Love this the only thing I dont hear is what needle size are you using? I'm thinking a 3.
Can you please post the link to the next video in this series? I went to your youtube channel but couldn't find it amongst all the other videos on there.
Love your video and I am ready to try this!! What is the brand of your yarn , love the color!
Nicole Filatov Here is a link to my Sock Tutorials Play list: th-cam.com/play/PLXCJii4vjifvfvFAPqv65IKqiD753qXmh.html
Yes, you can use larger needles on thicker yarn, and for your first pair it might be easier to learn the concept if you use a thicker yarn and larger needles. Let me know if you have any other questions.
do you continue with the magic loop for the foot area?
thank you for this great tutorial. ❤️🙏🏽🕊✨🛡
You are so welcome!
