Just found this video and I am trying to learn how to knit socks in the first place. I think I found your cast on much easier than the traditional magic loop. I personally don't like using my tail for casting on. I always have a fear that I am going to have to start over on my cast on because I don't have enough tail even though if I did it correctly in my measurements of how long I need my tail to me then I won't have that issue lol. But that is always the issue correctly doing your measurements lol. So yeah, not a fan of the long tail cast on either lol. Anyway, I also loved the fact that you knit your tail in instead of having to weave it in later. I have also just subscribed and hit the little bell because I did like this video and I do want to see more from you. I am going to check your channel playlist to see if you have the heal and gusset tutorial on here as well. If you don't then I would love to see more of that. I am a visual learner so reading a pattern doesn't make sense to me until I see it done lol. BTW my Ravelry name is CraftySharleen
@@sharle6 Thank you for the feedback and for subscribing! I don't have a heel flap and gusset tutorial yet, but I did create one for cut-in afterthought heels. A gusset video is next on my to-do list!
yes I would like a video on heels. In your opinion, which is the most sturdy/longlasting heel? German short heel fits my heel better than the others. Looking forward to your thoughts/video on this subject. thanks for explaining magic loop.
I have spent three days on the Internet trying to figure out the easiest way to add stitches to the toe up stock. This is the only video I could do right off the bat. Thank you 1 million times, I guess I’m not crazy after all!
Sometimes you don't know which video is gonna be the one that finally works for you, but for me, this was the one!! I have been on a determined journey to knit socks and this video finally allowed me to get past the cast on, first couple rows, some increases, etc. Don't know why it clicked for me seeing you do it, but it did and boy am I glad! Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!
This tutorial is soooo good. I have knitted socks for years but never toe up because they were "too hard". Now, I am thinking about doing nothing but toe up. THANK YOU VERY MUCH for making this tutorial.
I have been so intimidated about knitting socks but desperately want to learn, crochet socks hurt my sensitive feet. The tutorial for Turkish cast on using your method is very clear. I am looking forward to binge watching your instructions🤗...yes I would love a tutorial on the entire sock because you are a great teacher, thank you!
I’ve been struggling with Judi’s magic cast on for months and the simplified a tow up suck cast on so much easier for me. Since I have a inability to follow directions. I guess we’re complete directions. This was so easy. Thank you so much.. Also, I really do appreciate the Yarn over idea instead of make one whatever that is really simplified it for me. Thank you so much.
Yes I also am new to making socks and would love a video on how to do the complete sock. So far this has been the only video I have really be able to understand. Thank you in advance.
Thank you so much for showing how to do THE best way to knit toe up socks that works for me! Makes it more enjoyable for me to start another pair of socks without any hesitation 🩷
For knitters with second sock syndrome, do your items in 'tandem'....that is, knit the toe of one, the toe of the second etc. That way they are finished about the same time. You will need two sets of needles and two balls, but it's a great way to work without the hot mess of everything on one long needle, especially if you're travelling. Thanks!
Hi Allison. I had just ripped out the toes of socks that I had started, 5 times. Luckily, I found you! I am now on my way knitting TAAT toe up socks! I am using Knitter’s Pride needles; US 1.5/2.5mm, 47”/120cm. They are a little long but they are what I had. I am using Regia Garcia Color 4-ply yarn. Your cast on and yarn over increases are a complete game changer for me. Now, as long as I don’t drop any stitches or worse, I think that I will be successful. I also think that if I should forget to do a yarn over, I can easily do one on the next round by lifting the bar below. Sweet! Thank you so very much!
I like your increases. I need to try this. I get scattered at times because I too like watching TV, movies, and most often my socks are my travel projects. 💚
I'm new to sock knitting and although I haven't had a problem with the l&r increase, this seems so much easier and quicker. Thank you for showing this and I would love to see how you do the heels.
I like this method so much better than any other cast on for toe up socks! Thanks for making this video thorough, easy to follow, at a good pace for learning, and at the same time, concise. You seem to have made the PERFECT video!!
Thank you so much for this video. You have made magic loop for socks so much easier than I had been trying to do with little success. I have tried magic loop several times and while I came out with a pair of socks I really didn't like how the toes looked. This is so much easier.
Thank you for this video. I just learned this in a sock class last night but could not remember now that I am home. After several other videos, yours helped me get it right again. Thank you!!
I've been knitting socks for a long time but never tried the Turkish cast on. I think that will be my new go-to cast on, easier. Really like your video, instructions are easy to follow! Thanks!!
Allison!!! Your method of teaching is AWESOME! I have tried SEVERAL YT videos to learn how to make socks and I fail EVERYTIME! I'm going to try your method - it seems to be easier than DPNs etc or small Chiaogoo needles. Thanks for the inspiration! Merry Christmas!
I use the toe up method when I'm afraid I'll run out of yarn, but I don't like casting off almost as much as I don't like the Kitchener stitch, so top down is my pick.
At about 8:40, you knit through the back loop to turn the yarnover into an extra stitch... and this is where I stop progressing LOL (but I am veryy new to knitting). Do you have any close-up videos of just that part or any tips? No matter how I try it, I just end up with a mess. Thanks for the rest of the video though! This was the clearest on instructions, visuals, and the easiest method I have found thus far.
I just wanted to thank you and tell you this has worked brilliantly for me so far and I wanted to know if you would do a video for the heel . I read your blog post and down loaded the pattern but I dont full understand it and what is a way to fix holes. I think it's the yarn but its good yarn I paid 20.00 for a skein of it. Hard to believe I'm knitting a 20.00 pair of Sox but that I am thank you I've struggled and this is brilliant! Love the video dont know if I fully understand the yarn over though. Thanks again please do one for your heel!
Thanks for an easy to understand video. Many others talk slow and say the same thing over and over, to the point I'm not sure if I'm in the right place or if it's gone on without me, leaving me very confused
You’ve explained everything very clearly and simply. So much so that I’m off now to find the right needle and my yarn. Thank you so much. Dawn x My Ravelry name is Bellalou.

Hi Karen! Glad you enjoyed the video and that we have something in common! I will post a video on the heels as soon as I work my way up the foot of the sock! Have you tried the Fish Lips Kiss heel?
That's was interesting, I might have to give it a try. So you don't use a marker to show the begining before you start the increases? Have you tried Judy's Magic cast on to see how it compares? It would be very helpful to watch videos on the rest of the sock.
Thank you for showing your way of increasing! I do all my socks magic loop toe up (one at a time though I don’t like how I can’t keep my sides neat for two at a time I think my cable stretches them too much) I am going to try the yarn over way of increases on my next pair and see what I think :).
Lofty Loops Yarns I really enjoyed it! I just started my second sock using the yarn over increases on it too! Thanks again for the tip! Much easier to keep up with my increase row.
Hi Allison, I like using this method as well because I dont have to strain my dyes to see what row I'm on. I don't know where I learned this, not sure if it was in a sock pattern or your video.
What a life saver. It took me for ever to cast with magic loop I keep mess it up got confused the down up or up down the yarn. T. How do you determine how many stitches for you to cast on for toe up and how many rows to increase, do I increase every row or every other rows? Thanks fo much for sharing.
Glad it helped! The number to cast on is personal preference and has a lot to do with your foot size. I typically cast on 14 or 16 stitches, then increase every other row.

I have been trying to knit socks for many years and never get past the toe. I’ve been doing the Judy’s and it’s like I get a ladder after a few rows. This was so simple to cast on & love the yarn overs, I was trying a basic KFB as my increases. I keep getting what looks like a ladder on each side after I get my cast on & starting my increases. So glad this helped! Ladders usually happen when the yarn doesn’t have enough tension when moving to the next needle. Try giving the yarn an extra tug during the first 2 stitches on the new needle.

Lofty Loops Yarns 😀
Yes please do more videos on continuing with socks!
Seeing more of how you do socks would be great.
U r a lifesaver!!! Yes whole sock!!

Lofty Loops Yarns I really enjoyed it! I just started my second sock using the yarn over increases on it too! Thanks again for the tip! Much easier to keep up with my increase row.
Have to try it, Thanks👍
Hi Allison, I like using this method as well because I dont have to strain my dyes to see what row I'm on. I don't know where I learned this, not sure if it was in a sock pattern or your video.
This was great! Thank you- subscribed!
Yea please show us how to do the heels, thanks 😊

This is going to be a game changer for me. Thank you
