I didn’t like it when I first heard it & I think many are having that same knee jerk reaction but knowing that Dan never does anything without meaning, I listened again. I then interpreted the ‘growl’ he does with the words ‘all within us’ as referring to our sins. Yes, as Dan is Christian he would never disrespect one of the greatest & most loved songs. That set me back a bit - I was nervous about the metal part. But I was pleasantly surprised. I thought it was awesome how those guitars and organ sounded like a whole orchestra! Mr. Vasc's voice has amazing energy - and this song definitely needs that energy. As you put it, it's a heralding song that calls out its message. I could have done without the growl, but all the rest of it was awesome! Mr. Vasc can certainly enlarge his voice!
