😊A man not scared of his masculinity. Guys like the look of him to, something to aspire to in our confusing world.
If there were an image that simply encapsulated "metal", that hair flip/twist of the head at the very end after his final scream, to me, does it.
It's funny that pop culture and media have associated "the hair flip" with "metal." To me, especially Dan's final hair flip, was less that and more, "I have long hair, I'm sweaty, and I don't want to choke on said hair." 😝 If you notice, he does the final hair flip because some of his hair was in his mouth and he flipped to pull his hair out of his mouth. That first full hair flip, though, the one where he bends over and stands up? Absolutely because "metal." 😁
@@ForeverDegenerate I saw the last hair flip as being done because he just finished his final scream. He's done it before, but this one is, to me, somehow more 'epic'. The first one (lean down & flip back) is typical of metal people. When I had long hair, I did that version as well, but that final one after the final scream, is to me like, "yeah, that was a good scream and I know it, so here is a metal move for ya!" Every time I see the final one I keep hoping someone will freeze the video on that moment and comment on how awesome it looks.
I have been DYING for more reactions of this to hit my feed, and I am so glad you were one of the first. As always, your words and musical knowledge have increased my enjoyment of an already incredible piece!!!

I love that both you and Jen had the same jaw drop expression when Dan hit the final high power note at the end! I've watched a bunch of reactions to this now and it's a common response (even from trained vocalists) but always fun to see.

Jennifer! Didn't make the premiere 😔 but I'm still keeping up! So this is another Disney animated musical I haven't seen. Dan's delivery sounds on point for the subject matter ... imagine a drill sergeant! I loved Dan grabbing the camera and pulling it towards him as if he was grabbing a recruit by the shirt and pulling him! And LOL ... "basically screaming at our faces. Which is great. And I'm here for it." 😂 Another of those spitting my drink moments. I do think Jen is a little wrecked there at 17:08 with the sigh and head shake. 😁 And an open mouthed finish by Dan *and* Jen! I love Dan, never thought I'd see you reacting to him. Everything you say is spot on about his presence and character. He really delivers a performance that is well crafted and crystal clear. I always feel with him that he could end a take and tell dad jokes or just drop the performative aspect on a dime. His tours around his house and such are very relaxed. An unusual blend of ambition and professionalism with a bit of relaxed playfulness.

As you go into more of Dan's catalog, if you want to hear him a bit looser and more in his confort zone, try the cover of Dawn of Victory, featuring the original singer of Rhapsody, Fabio Lione, another extremely versatile metal voice (though they stick to the heroic tenor thing in this one), there's also A Tale With No End, with his band Fearless, in the same vein.
For Dan even more in character, though, try Burn Butcher, Burn.

A long time Dan fan here with a few recommendations. Bring Me To Life for the incredible variety of song styles and a mind-blowing last note; Kiss From A Rose with Violet Orlandi is my favorite cover is Seal's classic; Heaven Is A Place On Earth for sheer fun; and The Music Of The Night for a Broadway performance by Dan. He's made upwards of 230 covers, I think, and each one has Dan making the song his own. By far he's my favorite singer ever and I'm old enough to have heard all his covers by the original artists. Thank you for your review and analysis.

Oh, Jen, if you enjoyed this you definitely need to check out Tommy Johannson. He’s a Swedish rocker who has covered so many songs from the 80’s from Elton John to Heart and Blondie, to some heavier metal songs. His range is unbelievable and he is a virtuoso on the guitar and keyboard. Please do a reaction and analysis on him!!
I've only seen his jaw move during his vibrato on those higher metal screams. I wonder if it could be a way to release muscle tension?

I would suggest checking out one of his manowar covers, power metal fits him best imo, battle hymn is my top. In that song you can see him do a lot of forced vibrato with his jaw its a very purposeful technique
