The Incredibles vs Incredibles 2 Animation Differences

  • For some, a big gap in between The Incredibles and The Incredibles 2 may have been slightly irritating, however the space in between the two films gave creators the time to reevaluate the appearance of the film and its characters-and that’s exactly what they did.
Brad Bird, the creator and director of the Incredibles movies, has been a gold mine for Disney Pixar studios since 2004. That’s why when Disney decided to go ahead with The Incredibles 2 fourteen years later, its large budget-and advanced technology of course-allowed for animation changes that’ll blow your mind.
From changing Dash’s and Mr.Incredibles face completely, to adding in more details into scenes that existed in both films, watching scenes from these movies side by side is earth shattering-kind of like the Undermines Attack.
Even Edna Mode got not only an appearance change, but a home makeover as well. However, the best part may be getting to see more of Jack Jack, his demon form, and how that animation changed the dynamic of the Incredibles family and the entire film franchise.
What do you think of the animation differences between the two films? Do you think they were drastic or done naturally given all the improvements in technology? Let us know all your thoughts in the comment section below. If you like this video make sure to hit that subscribe button and give it a big thumbs up. Thanks for watching The Things Animated!

I caught most of them, especially the characters. Of the two movies, I prefer the first. I enjoy the story and art a little more in the first, than the second. One of the biggest differences in the characters, which I don't think you mentioned is the fact in the second movie, the Underminer doesn't have a chin. If you missed that I recommend a closer look.

I like to look at each film from the eyes of Bob and Helen.
The first one you see how Bob sees the world. The second one how Helen sees the world. Especially because even though the entire Parr family is in the story and it focuses on them, it’s also a gives a perspective focus on both of them as heroes.

I disagree, the second movie isn't made for adults as well as for kids, so not having the dark tone of the first one alienates the fans of the first movie. It's like Pixar made the sequel for your kids, not for you and your kids like in the first movie.

More saturated colors, more shading and depth, Brighter and more Modern feel to everything. All in all, I was stoked when I heard this hit theaters, then saw it on Disney+ and loved it. I watched the first one just before, for nostalgic purposes, and the sequel Totally held up. There were some oddball Plot-Holes, but I figured it’s an amazing story with the Incredibles family and it stays fairly true to the original comedic energy from the first film, with its own twist.

The only changes I didn't like were these: 1. Dash's super speed seems to be a little slower despite it being smoother. In the first movie, you could vaguely see him while running showing how fast he was. 2. Helen seems younger and less middle aged. Her being older in the first made her seem a little more like a mother. 3. Jack Jack's body language made him seem more like a 5 year old in an infant's body. I know a lot of people like the more saturated colors of the 2nd one because we've all been conditioned to be drawn towards brighter and more vibrant colors by a lot of the CGI movies that came after Incredibles 1, but the more subdued colors of the first one were a storytelling choice to make the super exploits look a bit more grounded and to also juxtapose the ordinariness of their civilian lives with their superheroics on Syndrome's island lair which was super lush and vibrant. With the increased color saturation of the 2nd one, a lot of that visual journey of the 1st isn't present.

The improvements pretty much stack like Legos, and the further apart a sequel is created from its predecessor, the more noticeable the improvements are.

Honestly seeing stuff like this is pretty cool! Gives you the idea of how CGI movies look like then vs. now. 2 (As well as other movies like Cars 3, Finding Dory, Inside Out, Toy Story 4, Turning Red, etc.) is practically eye-candy (Especially if you watch it in 4K with HDR like from the 4K Blu-Ray), but I have a soft-spot for the style of the first one. Same goes for Toy Story 1 and 2, Cars 1, Bug's Life, Monsters Inc. and Finding Nemo. In fact, I love the style of CGI animation from the 90s and 2000s like in advertisements, bowling alley animations, video games, music videos, TV shows and much more.

Yeah, when I saw the incredibles 2, I really noticed that in part 1, all characters literally looked as pale in color, but in part 2, all characters have their skin contrast. This same is also with Toy Story as well. It literally proves that Pixar actually did work hard on their animation style all over the years😯

The first incredibles animation style maybbe dated compared to how its done now but the one thing that the original movie had over the sequel was the coloring, the original movie had more bland and muted colors to complement the more serious story, for a kids movie the original incredibled was very mature with the themes and stories it told, it didn't always need a stupid joke or something out of place to make it interesting cause the story idea alone about all superheroes being forced into retirment was interesting enough for the time, I think the sequel to the movie did do some things good but it will never hold a candle to what made the original so good

I will say that I preferred Dash’s sense of speed in the first film as it was not as smooth as 2. But I think that makes him look faster as you can’t track him. The dinner scene with Dash in 2 just looks like every skit about a little boy and how they run off quickly to do something. His speed was definitely not utilised as nearly as much as it was in the first film.

  • @freemakerthings4518

There’s something about the second movie that makes the first movie looked unfinished in the modern day. In some ways, it looks better in terms of today’s modern style of animation

  • @lovelymeforeverful

I hate the second one, they changed the character’s image so so much and I was able to notice it since the first time I saw the second movie no side by side comparison needed. The first one was superior by far in animation, characters and plot. The second one just altered and modernized for no reason.
