I was born in Puerto Padre, my family and I came in a stolen boat in 1994 when I was 9 years old. My childhood in Puerto Padre was more like something out of the movie "The Goonies" than anything else. I have yet to return to my island, but one day I hope to do so. I have family in all the places that were mentioned here and they are all worked the land at some point in there lives or continue to do so. This video brought back so many memories of a childhood, that even though we didn't have much, everyday was an adventure, whether it was playing handball in the middle of the street or in the actual national baseball stadium, tops, marvels, flying kites, making pea shooters out of cloth pins, sling shots, even our own scooters which we called "chivichanas", playing hide and seek in forests, fishing from the pier, fighting fishes, raising parakeets, spending weeks in beach cabins made of lumber in our amazing white sand beaches, those were my golden years. Thank you for this video.
sage0187 Hello. I’m from Louisiana in the USA and my ancestors came from the Canary Islands of Spain (Las Islas Canarias/los isleños) and I heard that many of the Guajiros descend from isleños either in part or fully. Can you confirm this by any stories you’ve heard from your people about the Canary Islands or isleños? I know many isleños settled Cuba and especially in the countryside from what I’ve read. Thanks.

any poor country
From India, just moved emotionally. A small pocket of the world still showing where we should be heading in order to be happy without being materialistic. Love to see this country .
but tourism only spoils the purity of such places. leave them alone or document their lives only to let the future generations know what they are missing.
GO TO CUBA not to see any monuments but to feel those monumental human beings still finding happiness in spite of such hardships.
A Great Document Indeed! I wish all the best for these Cuban citizens. May God bless the Cubans! Greetings from India.
i think thats lovely how he greets his wife and gives her the first spoonful what a good man he couldn't do it without his wife
Me hizo muy feliz ver éste documental, por que me recuerda mucho al Ecuador. Ésta vida campesina la compartimos todos los latinoamericanos que somos de climas cálidos.
Saludos.
What he said at 13:48 made my heart grow twice in size. Lovely to see men that aren't machistas. They have a beautiful relationship.
what a wonderful couple! i can see how much they love each other! i really enjoyed this video! may God bless them !and good wishes from Mexico!
Its amazing how eventhough these people may be financially "poor" they eat 100x healthier and better than the poor in America.
People in US don't want to be bothered by hard work and growing their own food, they just want to go to Walmart and buy everything and complaint about gluten or throwing a tantrum if their mocha unicorn grande is not ready in 1 minute.
Melissa .....Meli, you are wrong.....poor people in America eat good......every day.
??? They live in poverty and there are times that they go days with no food. You only see what is shown and that’s not necessarily your fault. Not all have farms/land and have to find other means to get their food and money
@@agustindejesus7398 I was homeless as a child. Left home at age 11. My buffet was in the McDonald's trash cans and let me assure you I was just one of many homeless children who ate from the same trash can. And I was homeless in the rich part of Oklahoma City. My biography "Estoppels" backs this up.
Anthony.....Antho, why you left home at eleven. Was you abused or did not want to listen to your parents. Did you have family out of your parents home. You were a child. If you was abused you should have told someone like a teacher, or any organization who help abused children. In my country no child leave home at eleven. Hope you have a good life now because scars most of the times are painful.
Definitely a place i will visit before my last days.
