Ivan Parker and I wrote God Bless The USA on July 4, 1983. We sat in the airport at Washington DC Downtown Airport. I made my first transcontinental flight from Los Angeles to Washington DC and Ivan Parker flew in from New York City. The part about going from Detroit to Houston was my first flight out of flight attendant training in Detroit. I was the flight attendant for first class on that flight. Ivan and his son Stephen were in first class on that flight.

Whenever I hear this song I think of 3 of my nephews singing their hearts out on their song at a 4th of July show. My nephew Jake was the most patriotic kid I ever knew all his life he wanted to be in the Army and make it his career. He got to be in the Army and got deployed to Iraq in the early days of the war. He got shot in the hand and eventually lost his hand, but at least he survived. If he could he'd go back to the Army and do it all over again.
God bless him, and thank him for defending America! Those who are oppressed!

I like this performance of God Bless the USA by Ivan Parker. This is from the Homecoming concert at Carnegie Hall on October 29, 2001. Ivan and I wrote God Bless the USA on July 4, 1983. We both ended up in Washington, DC and we sat in the downtown airport and wrote the song. Then we went to a fireworks display on that night. Ivan debuted the song at his concert in northern Virginia on July 5.

The song God Bless the USA was written at the Washington DC downtown airport. The date was July 4, 1983. Ivan Parker's flight came in from New York and that flight crashed on approach to the airport. Ivan and his seatmate were the only survivors on that fight. The airport was shut for several years after that. Eventually it reopened with a new name: Ronald Regan Airport. I was a flight attendant and came in on a flight from Los Angeles earlier that afternoon.

Doesn't this song get people thinking? My question is where are all the true american patriots? What has happened to the pride and love in our country? There are people that are literally wiping their butts with the American flag, burning it, and tearing it... Billions of lives were lost protecting the rights of these idiots to act like fools. American blood that's been spilled on our soil and other country's... have these men and women died in vain? Have we forgotten them? What would our founding fathers say or do? Would they be proud? or would they be furious? Are they rolling over in their graves...? What happened to the America I read about in the textbooks? What happened to the "sleeping giant"? Are we too far gone? Or maybe that sleeping giant needs to be woken up! I'm talking to you my fellow patriots... it's time we stand up and say once again "I am proud to be an American!" This is the Unites States of America not Italy, Mexico, Canada, Russia, Britain, ect... Wake up! Please wake up! We need to reunite! We need to fight for country, for our rights! The Pledge of Allegiance has been an "offensive message" since I was in the third grade. What's wrong with this picture? Saying "Merry Christmas" is offensive! The confederate flag is "offensive" now the Gadsden flag! Come on it doesn't take 20/20 vision to see this. Please Americans... in the name of Jesus Christ wake up... I'm also proud of my ancestors who fought and died for that flag at Iwo Jima and at Normandy in World War II. And I'm damn proud of my ancestors who died for that Confederate Flag at the Battle of Franklin and at the Battle of Murfreesboro. You can take your attitude toward the Confederate Flag and shove it.

I would like the copyright for God Bless the USA. My first husband, Ivan C. Parker and I wrote the song on the 4th of July in 1983. I was a flight attendant with American Airlines and flew from Los Angeles to Washington DC downtown airport. Ivan flew into that airport from New York. He and his seatmate were the only survivors from that flight, which crashed about half a mile short of the runway. (The airport was closed for several years after that accident). Ivan C. Parker performed the song God Bless the USA the following day at a concert in northern Virginia. His seatmate was present at that concert. The line about Detroit to Houston: I went through flight attendant training during January and February in Detroit. My first flight out of flight attendant training was from Detroit to Houston. Ivan and our son Stephen were on that flight!

Seems like you think Ivan's throat is not as good as it once was. Please don't compare his recent performance to a performance 15 years ago. Ivan is still blessing those who come to his programs with the holy spirit and sincere love of the people. God is still honored every time he sings.

Tony Stark It has nothing to do with it being American. I think we Europeans have a different historical experience with nationalism than you do. We have seen what it ends with, especially when used as a political ploy to ensnare the angry or dissatisfied segments of an electorate.. Seeing nationalism rear its ugly head across the planet for this very purpose, as is the case from USA to Russia to China, across Europe and in the middle east, should make anyone pause. It is a very serious matter.
