    Omg...I am no obsessed with this method. Have dyed two skeins already, and have another skein ready to dye. Love the results I achieved!
    Skein one I dip dyed with Wilton purple...love the result. Skein two I dyed a rainbow with Wilton Color Rite...stunning result. Just finishing up the first sock using this one, and I absolutely adore it. For both skeins I chained up the skein twice instead of three times...more repeats that way.
    Thank you so much for this tutorial...I could never have come up with this on my own!

    fabulous.And it was only yesterday that I asked in the group,how to get self stripping yarn. It's also nice to see crochet being used .😊 💞

      I think this might be a "more prep" version of that, but the timing was good. :D

    omg I wasn't understanding why you chose this pattern of dye placement until you got it on the niddy noddy and explained it...it's matched! My mind went DUH! This is such a great way to do a matched set! No matter what though I ADORE the idea of crocheting a crocheted chain of crochet chains to dye! I mean you could also do a braid of a braided braid! How much fun, and I love the textural element that this added in the dye uptake.

      Just prepared two ww 100 Gram natural cream coloured rustic sheep (from Wolle Roedel) balls in a similar way, crochet chain, crochet chain, long hank (about 4 or 5 meter circumference however long my hallway is) crochet chained again so it is a shortish caterpillar looking thing.
      I want to make legwarmers with them.

    Really enjoyed watching this, and the results from the chaining was very cool! Thanks again for all your sharing!

    I would love to see your dye projects in a small knit square. How lovely would that be? :)

      I wish that I could show what each yarn looks like knit up, but unfortunately I don't have the capacity to do this right now. Maybe someday if I'm no longer a one person operation... :D I have been collecting pictures of the finished items created with ChemKnits dyed yarns to make a slideshow at some point.

    Red and black are one of two of my color combos for my parade gear. I've been thinking of knitting an ear cap for my horse. I can use half the skein for that and half for fingerless riding gloves. My other show gear is purple, grey, and white. In other news, I still haven't had a day to photo my first dyed yarn. It has been cloudy everyday except one and I had do all my in town errands that day. I tried with various lighting around the house, but it just doesn't come anywhere close to true, especially the blue, which is the one I want to show the most. I bought more flavors to see what they look like. Lucas would love the orange it is the perfect bright orange you always see depicted in rainbow merch., much better than Kool-Aid's, imho. Speaking of merch., I am wanting a ChemKnits logo t-shirt or hoodie, cooler weather is coming soon.

    Do you have a video on making stock solution? Or know where I can get some info for it? I always guess and sometimes get way too much, and others spotty coverage lol

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials
      @ChemKnitsTutorials  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do: th-cam.com/video/t8MFfTgeKic/w-d-xo.html I think my stock solutions weren't perfect, since I noticed some inconsistencies in the potency as I used them over the years.

    That DNA-strand knitting pattern you have as your etsy store banner - do you have a pattern for that available anywhere? I know some people that would love a DNA-strand scarf!

    When you make the first crochet chain, do you use a hook size that corresponds to the weight of yarn, or do you go larger or smaller? Then when you crochet the chain what size hook do you use?
    I really like the stripe you got! Very pretty!

    • @ameko1ikiru
      @ameko1ikiru 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would think that it would depend on how saturated or mottled you would want the color to be. Tighter chains would present many more mottled patches, and super loose chains would make your end result more solid

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials
      @ChemKnitsTutorials  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think that did a bit looser than would be required for 2x of the yarn. These chains were fairly loose. The tighter they are the more resist you'd have so the more speckles you'd get.

      so do you mean to say that you HAND crochet double strand with what size crochet hook? and then you took a double strand with what size large hook? SOOO much work Rebecca when do you sleep, you are so prolific at all this stuff I can't believe every time I get a notice of a new video. So amazing how you found one of your flows in life. I am a Gemini and am all over the place with crafts and never have enough time each day to accomplish all I want. Love you and your daring and immense contribution to the fiber arts world.

    how about having a chain and then start with it hanging and drip dye from topo and letting it bleed down?

  • @lindasyarnbarn5176
    @lindasyarnbarn5176 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    How would you get this same effect using Rit dye and cotton yarn, such as Peaches and Cream?

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials
      @ChemKnitsTutorials  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it would be very similar. Crochet up the yarn, and then handpaint with Rit following the cotton instructions. I would presoak the yarn in salt water (I approximate the proportions on the bottle) and then handpaint with the Rit dye followed by steaming.

      Rebecca, Awesome!!!! Thank you so much for the reply. I haven’t ever done this before and I bought some dye, yarn, a dedicated steam pot and a dedicated dye pot. Now if I could only just get the guts to try it!!!!!

    What about arranging the chain-chain in an open spiral (open in the center, then close spiral around) and do the bands in wedges? Maybe three colors?

  • @mandysixx2350
    @mandysixx2350 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    do you need to put it in a dye pot? will it work without?

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials
      @ChemKnitsTutorials  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You do need to heat set it in some way for the dyes to properly set. Acid dyes require heat.

    I am going to dye some sock yarn but I want to crochet it into chains, but my stripes won' be as long as the ones on the yarn you used.

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials
      @ChemKnitsTutorials  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This will be super awesome. With the sock yarn I did in the previous version of this techinuqe, there I did a SUPER loose crochet chain and I think I used my hand at some point to help keep things loose vs a hook.
