  • In this video tutorial for absolute beginner spinners, I am using my Electric Eel Wheel Nano spinner. I chose to use this, as opposed to one of my three main wheels, because I am able to get SUPER up close, go at a VERY slow speed, and explain what I am doing as I do it, and WHY.

Excellently done! Your teaching is so clear! You started at the beginning, explaining the rationale for every step so viewers know not just WHAT to do and HOW, but also WHY we are doing it! This is great teaching! Clear at last, clear at last! I'm subscribing--and getting me one of those spinner things! :)

This is probably one of the best beginner videos I've seen. I've been pulling the fiber with my pinched thumb and forefinger which resulted in me getting trigger finger in my thumb. I see now that it doesn't pull the fiber it just stops it and that I should be pulling back with the other hand. Thanks!

Dreaming Robots EEW spinners are fantastic and affordable! I have both the Nano and the 6.0. I know that he is coming out with a new version on the Nano and I plan on getting that one too. (I do not think the ones that are coming over to restock are the new versions) I would recommend either one. I say get the 6.0 if you are serious about spinning. Its still portable but holds 3x as much yarn

As a long time crochet artist and spinner I am going to offer a bit of advice. You say to spin with a "Z" and ply with an "S" (clockwise and counterclockwise). All commercial yarn is made this way. But as someone who crochets it would actually be to your advantage to do it opposite! A complaint I hear from people learning to crochet is that the yarn always wants to "split". That is because when you knit you naturally turn the yarn in a counterclockwise motion, but when you crochet your yarn is being turned clockwise! Take a min and think about how you do your yarn overs in crochet... So it is actually to your advantage to finish off your yarn (or ply your yarn) in the same direction! No more splits! I mostly spin everything "S" or counterclockwise and then ply "Z" or clockwise. If I am spinning a yarn that will not be plyed, that will be left as a single then I spin it "Z"... I had heard this before so I experimented with both and analyzed the way yarn moves when I crochet VS knit. Since I mostly crochet I definitely recommend switching the direction of your spin. It makes crocheting more enjoyable and easier with handspun! Please do yourself a favor and give it a try!
