    Very pretty! No matter how you wind the skeins self striping yarns are labor intensive and a pain which is why they tend to be more expensive. I look forward to seeing your explorations of different techniques.

      I think that I picked one of the MOST labor intensive ways with this one, however you could create something really amazing with good variegated stripes (non repeating stripes even!)

    I think this method of dyeing is genius! I'm so excited about the possibilities that I rushed over to Amazon and ordered an Embellish-knit for myself. Now I just have to twiddle my thumbs for a couple of days until it gets here!

    a year or so ago I saw a blog entry where the woman had icorded some very thin yarns together to make her own super bulky yarn! It was very intriguing and I promptly made some. It shrinks in yardage unbelievably. Love the way this turned out. The swatch was a big help to visualize the colors. Thank you so much for sharing this. Can't wait to find my little cranker dealie again. PS Love my Hanukkah yarns. Will be swatching them soon to play with the different bases.

    I just found your channel. Watched this and had my doubts all the way through -- thought it was just going to be a bust until I saw it unraveled. It's beautiful! And that swatch! Wow, it will be beautiful no matter what is knitted with it. Thanks for demoing this for us.

    I love this. I like long colour repeats, and once made an 8m long skein with chairs but it was exhausting. I really like the mottled effect too, so am gonna buy a French knitting machine rather than making/buying a warping board

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials
      @ChemKnitsTutorials  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Making the icord took me AGES AND AGES. I wish there was a way to automate it because it took me so much longer than doing super long skeins. (You can buy 6M skeins from Wool2Dye4 and that's something I tend to do now!)

    I bought one of those cranks on a 60% joanne coupon, still in its original pkg untouched, so this is a fun experiment. I have had a bit of success using plumbers teflon tape on the threads of some bottles to cut down the dripping. For socks the effort great fun, I think the concept is so innovative for a maybe one time gig to play around. Although for me, I think the colors are really "off" at least on my monitor, but the maverick idea is right "on". Thanx

      ChemKnits Tutorials The Addi egg! Its a hand crank 6-needle i-cord maker and it can definitely handle worsted weight or even a bit bulkier with ease. It’s about $40 buy-it-now on ebay (cheaper if you shop around and snatch up a good deal). I own an Addi king (46 needles) and there is also the Addi express which is 22 needles and comparable to the little singer circular crank machine that you use for your sock blanks but higher quality (smoother! quieter! fewer kamikaze stitches hopping off needles!). Now if only I were an Addi affiliate (or ebay reseller), judging by the enthusiasm for this technique I’m thinking there will soon be a big jump in sales 😂

So scrolled down and yup, made the same comment back then that I was going to make now. So funny. Except to add that the downside here is that it is possible to get a color you absolutely don't like even though the rest are great, w which could ruin the whole skein, and being so prepared, you could not do over as it would be scattered everywhere throughout. However you could always dye over the whole thing. I have knitted things with hand dyed that I wasn't crazy about and really did not enjoy it, so I am a bit more attentive these days and have overdyed several things now with good results.
