    I absolutely enjoy all your podcasts, but when you are able to include a small swatch piece, That is particularly helpful. It adds so much to your video. You might want to keep your eye open for any type of use th
    machine
    . You could photograph it put it back into this skein in less than five minutes. You’re a treat to us Knitters and crocheting.

      Even if I were to purchase a new machine, I do not have the capacity to swatch yarns for all of my videos, unfortunately. :( I am a one woman show at the moment.

    We have the same brain I swear lol! I did a colorway like this with all periwinkle and then the peek a boo part, pink, yellow and purple. I wish we could post pictures in the comments on TH-cam. Soo similar lol! It came out beautiful!!! I have a video on here where I made a GIANT niddy noddy for this and self striping yarns. I can’t do warping boards lol. Too many kids yelling at me at all times of the day lol. I always tangle it hahaha!

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials

      I imagine that I will struggle a bit with the warping board... I still have to make it and I've been putting it off for ages. Fingers crossed!

    • @ReservoirFibers

      Super easy to make but not the easiest thing when it comes to warping if you have kids yelling at you all day long lol! I made a niddy noddy that’s pretty much the size of me lol! It works great for self striping yarn and stuff like this though!

    Literally this morning at 4am I was on youtube searching for a rainbow and black peekaboo yarn, I was SURE someone had done it or thought of it but I wasnt getting anything. So imagine my surprise when I opened my youtube this AM and your video popped up! Love it

      Awe! For a rainbow peek-a-boo yarn try looking up the unicorn farts tutorial. (That's not mine, but it is a great reference.)

  • @SparkyJoon
    @SparkyJoon 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Rebecca- if you do this again, try putting a zip tie tightly around both sides of the yarn creating a new closed end at a point that will allow it to rest on the spoon and pot and leave your undyed end out of the pot. Hope I explained it clearly enough!

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials
      @ChemKnitsTutorials  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      OMG THIS IS BRILLIANT. This would help so much. I have one other video where I do something like this later on, but I'm going to have to keep this in my back pocket. I hope I remember for next time!

    Rebecca, you are too cute. That turned out gorgeous! So cool they offer this type of skein for dyeing. I've seen minis but not these. REALLY love the color combination. You did nail it!

      @ChemKnitsTutorials  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awe, thanks! W2D4 really offers a lot of options. I've been impressed with their shipping times, too. The minimum order is a bit harder so I have to plan them out carefully, but I do like the yarn.

    "I have bought the 6-meter skeins. Let's open this up for a little unboxing. Um, hopefully these come- oh dear- with a lot of tie- oh gosh. Oh no." This is scarier than 85% of actual horror stories 😂

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials
      @ChemKnitsTutorials  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      LOL! I learned to open the package VERY VERY carefully and then I twist them up. there are a lot of ties, but I don't want to snag and pull the yarn.

    I love this! And your zip-tie-to-microwave solution. I’ve never seen a pre-made long skein like this. Certainly beats doing it myself with a bunch of chairs!

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials
      @ChemKnitsTutorials  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've made my own a lot. I think longer than 6 M would be better for some applications, but this certainly helps and isn't that much more expensive than the yarn in normal size hanks.

    • @ReservoirFibers
      @ReservoirFibers 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Shanna Seigel I made a giant niddy noddy from PVC pipe!! I have it in my self striping yarn tutorial I believe? It definitely is a hassle having to make them bigger lol! I want to get one of those new skein winders from heavenly. Seems like it would work great for this lol!

    • @shannaseigel4003
      @shannaseigel4003 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Reservoir Fibers Good idea on the PVC! As I’ve gotten more into dyeing I’ve also invested in some pipe and connectors. Definitely been handy!

  • @ooohlaa13
    @ooohlaa13 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    So wonderful, can't wait to try some version of this. You say in title 6 meters but at end you say 9 meters? I guess that would affect how wide the black is, I made the huge mistake of doing a super long skein outside on chairs, it was 30 feet one way. I had no idea what I was doing at all. I did recurring pastel colors and when I knitted it it was so boring looked like pastel mud blotches!!! Dealing with the pooling is really a crapshoot until you experiment a lot and think ahead what span you will be making. Not enough hours in the day!

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials
      @ChemKnitsTutorials  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I said 9 then I meant 6 - it is definitely a 6 M skein. I didn't notice that slip up!

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials
      @ChemKnitsTutorials  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Knitting blacks can be hard. It could be fun to do this with a saturated but less black color, too.

  • @pheonixphire

    I recently saw in a group I'm in, that someone was making mittens from a yarn called Dark Side of the Moon and it had this one rainbow stripe that was spiraling up the length of the work and I pondered how they got it like that..I wonder if they did a similar dye technique like you did here 🤔
    I love how this yarn came out 💕

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials
      @ChemKnitsTutorials  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that if you wanted a specific pooling effect like that you could calculate the length of yarn used for one round of the mittens and then go slightly bigger than that to dye the colorway.

  • @maryellenmeggs3027

    Have you thought about doing an episode on comparing dish soap to wool wash, and/or different wool washes. Camaj fiber says that wool should be washed in wool, because the alkaline of dish soap damages the yarn.

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials
      @ChemKnitsTutorials  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I keep meaning to switch to synthrapol etc. I have never actually used wool wash in my life! BUT I would like to do more research on this. It might be hard to see much of a difference from one wash, but wool wash is definitely more gentle.

    So beautiful! I love skeins dyed with this method. Have you tried this method with food coloring?

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials
      @ChemKnitsTutorials  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not specifically I don't think. However, it would work very similarly. In many acid dye techniques I do you could easily substitute food coloring. The one thing that is hard is getting a good black with food coloring - that is super hard to do.
