😂...you are really inspiring me lately...your course is amazing...it actually making me to follow the rabbit hole of logo design...you and Aaron Draplin are my current teachers...love you guys
Great video! Thank you both. The main takeaway for me was realizing just how important teaching is for learning. Although I've heard this many times before, I never fully appreciated its power until now. James's explanation of the psychology behind it, and the fact that doctors use it, really highlighted how crucial teaching others is for reinforcing our own learning.
I’m still not there yet! But I started saying no to a lot of work outside of TH-cam content and brand videos for clients. No more wedding, parties, events and that helped my business a lot. I think I’m getting to the next phase where I’ll only work with entrepreneurs that want to grow on TH-cam.
Brilliant content again Chris, and James I listened to this few weeks ago on the pod, it was full of gems! So I HAD to give it a watch to really let those points sink in my brain.
Just like James and thousands of other designers I find myself daily drawn into all my interests in terms of working in graphic, web and motion design, logo, icon and illustration work, photography, video and 3D - I am getting to the point where finally after yearrs I might be settling more towards a combination of putting best use of my photography of people and products, twinned with 3D work as part of product design/animation/vfx - its not yet clear how I can manage this its been an idea a long time in the making and its still not entirely niched but if I can steer that direction and stay afloat it could be the answer ive been searching for all these years
Never thought that Tiktok can generate B2B leads, I thought it's just a place for scrollers not businesses that afford paying for services. Thanks for this.
There's some really great nuggets of wisdom in here! I really liked what you shared about the medical community and how they remember their procedures, learn it - do it -teach it!
Teaching as a strategy for learning appeals to more than intending to gain status or making money. Something in this video was confirming of that for me. So cheers and much gratitude for that.
this was a great convo and I think a good example on specialization since Chris is always trying to push for people to have a better understanding of it😅
So Pure... Thank You... I have to start my life over again & The Futur brand is helping me & the world... I'm getting destroyed in SoCal... BUT will survive... ;)
Genuine question from a noob who aspires to launch a freelance business, but doesn't know where to begin: It's my perception that everyone nowadays can't just specialize in a particular service or product anymore, they also must be content creators. And as someone who legitimately hates social media with a fiery passion, it's disheartening to hear how much income stems from content creation. So I guess my question is, how does a freelance designer become successful without feeling like they also need to be a content creator? Or is this just the nature of the world we live in and it should be embraced? In a field that is already so saturated, how do you create content that stands out?
I own a helmet decal company, well we started as such and have expanded into other areas. People always ask me how I do things, what machines I use, and I always been hesitant to share. In fear of creating competitors in a space with such a small niche. Am I hurting myself by not making content to teach about what I know?
Nice niche, educating and focusing down on the Adobe updates that some may have missed. It’s very easy to get stuck in a routine of doing things your own way and ignoring these later updates. Particularly for dinosaurs like me who started on Photoshop 5 and Freehand in the mid 90s😅 But it is the age old question. How do these content creators get past the YT algorithm? You know the one, where it delivers 200 (or thereabouts) impressions before giving up and not delivering your videos anywhere else so nobody gets to see your work/ content. As a 40+ year old designer I have a mortgage and bills to pay, I don’t have time to spend tickling the social algorithms. Sorry hope that doesn’t come across as too negative but I find it frustrating that’s all. Nice content as always. 😊
Thanks for having me Chris! And to everyone watching, can you tell how nervous I was? Chris is my hero! 🤩

My pleasure, great convo. We'll have to do it again soon.
Just a heads up: Google tells me your website is unsafe and warms me not to access it. When I proceed I get a "404 NOT FOUND".
You held yourself together well mate !!
Hi James, I tried to go to your website to look at your course and I keep getting a 404 error. Is the course still on Skillshare by any chance???

Super valuable episode! 🙌 Love that quote Chris mentioned, "one teaches to learn" & "one teaches, two learn".

What will you do to generate leads? Content creation is one form of lead generation
There's a ton of other ways to get clients. Form partnerships with complimentary companies, go networking, outbound marketing etc
I always say Solo Studio instead of Freelancer.
Hahaa those balloons when Chris got in the zone😂
been starting freelancing for a while but haven't got any client, I guess its time to watch all the futur videos😂
Don't stop pushing referrals might also get you clients
What have you tried to do to get clients?
How is it going now?
James is a legend/

Make good content. It's simple as that. Ask yourself is what I'm making good, valuable and sharable? Put in the reps produce 500 videos.
Designerrrrrr
DESIGNERS!!!
I'm not even a creative yet the is the best marketing channel so far lol
Thank you
Love this dude. Found him after seeing some great cringe faces and had to subscribe lol. Nice to see him getting some attention!
