    I'm 64 yrs old and have been driving both Chevy and Ford pickup trucks since the 70s. I've always dreamed about having a truck that got truly good milage along with good power. Now I have a 2019 XLT 3.5 ecoboost max tow package, and I have to say it's the most powerful and fuel efficient truck I've owed to date. So far I'm very impressed with it.

      What kind of mileage are you averaging?

    • @grizz474
      @grizz474 3 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      @@MrRGiller I'm in Minnesota and it's a 230 mile round trip to the cabin and back. Without a trailer and going 70 on the freeway and 65 on the highway I get an honest 24 mpg. If I drive trying to get the best mpg I can get I've gotten 25.5, that's a round trip number. Keep in mind if I'm pulling a trailer with a couple 4 wheelers and gear I get about 18 mpg, still much better than my Silverado. Nothing against Chevy, I drove that truck for 10 years and 150,000 miles with minimal repairs. I went with Ford in part this time for the aluminum body, they salt the shit outta the roads in winter. We'll see how the Ford looks after 10 years....Chevy was getting rusty.

    Andre, these tuning companies do a great job. Thanks for another great video! I personally went with Livernois Motorsports for my 2016 F150 2.7 Ecoboost. At the time on the forums, the experts were saying Livernois. They have lifetime support and custom tuned my transmission for me to suit my wants and needs. The 2.7 is such a capable engine. I use the Michelin Premier LTX - the stickiest touring tires I could find and it still breaks them loose! The engine holds 20lbs of boost from about 2,000 RPM to the redline and it is fast! 0-60 is just over 5 seconds if I can get it to hook up! I have towed 7,000lbs with my 8.5 x 20 enclosed trailer plus people and cargo in the truck with a towing tune and it works fantastically. A custom tune really wakes these trucks up even though they are already good.

      It’s not complicated. Until you get comfortable spending $7k or more to supercharge a v8, the ecoboosts’ performance can’t be touched $ for $.
      They are good engines for sure, but it’s not like they are made of gold (technically that would be a terrible idea, but you get the metaphor). Tuneability is just the inherent advantage of a modern turbocharged engine.
      It’s simply amazing what you can get out of them for under $1k. But if money is no object for keyboard warriors then duh: the 5.0 or any other big displacement v8 can be made to shame these little ecoboosts.
      But I live in the real world, where I’m very thankful this is possible.

    • @SRTifiedRAM
      @SRTifiedRAM 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It sure can 😉 However, what many consumers have been wanting back (specifically for the Raptor), was that old fashioned V8 grunt.
      RAM and the TRX specifically stepped up to those in the market, with its 6.2L supercharged V8.
      Sure, Ford’s off-road/baja-capable Raptor is quick from the factory, and can be tuned/modified to be even quicker. But overall, consumers wanted the sound of a pissed off V8 while doing what they’re rightfully-so, capable of.
      The TRX is exactly that, with surpassed capabilities. Not to mention the market to tune and upgrade engine components is already out there, being that it’s a “Hellcat” engine. Consumers will immediately be able to custom tune, increase/implement different fueling systems and octanes, swap pulleys, add larger injectors, superchargers, etc. (All of this is honestly just friendly input). We’re certainly living in exciting times! 🤘🏻 🇺🇸

  • @lil2.74
    @lil2.74 ปีที่แล้ว

    When discussing the 2wd truck with the 2.7, I find the comment "13.1" is possible stated by 5 Star very interesting. It makes me feel very good about my truck. I know that they have ran much faster 12.3 in a 2018 up 2.7 2wd Supercrew but it was on a Hoosier with OEM 16 inch light weight wheels so I am assuming that they are referring to a real practical street tire. 2018 up 2.7's have additional fuel injectors, 6 in port and 6 direct injection whereas 15-17 only have direct. The factory fueling capability of the 2018 has an ethanol advantage in stock form compared to the earlier trucks. I have a 2016 Ford F150 Supercrew 4x4 2.7 Ecoboost with 209,xxx miles. It has it's stock original turbos. It is 5 Star e50 tuned and the only fueling upgrade is a VMP boost a pump. It has a CVF catted downpipe, an entry level CVF intercooler, AMS turbo inlet tubes and a S&B intake. Again it has stock turbos. I have ran a dragy 13.1 IN 2WD with a horrible 2.07 60ft time and on a small 255/50R20 all season 560 treadwear tire on the street. No doubt that with a 4wd launch that I can drop all of those et's significantly. I am not currently interested in doing 4wd, it is my goal to run a 12.9 on an EVERYDAY street tire that gets mileage, is safe in bad weather and can handle gravel roads, in 2wd with stock turbos. I currently have the worthless e locker rear differential carrier and I can't lock it in as it stopped working but they weren't great even when working because they disengage at 20mph. So I am launching with an open carrier. I have a Ford Performance Mustang GT locker "requires mod"that I will install soon and hopefully I can get that 12.9 by cutting my 60ft. I am currently leaving at a very low rpm on negative boost. Theres 500 utube videos of 4x4 F150's doing sub 5 second and sub 4 second 0-60 mph times launching in 4wd. I to my knowledge have the only sub 5 second "4.89" 0-60 on the street in 2wd on a regular tire. On a side note,a high percentage of people who "upgrade" thier trucks spend money to increase the power output of the engine and then make counter productive choices when buying wheels and tires. That 3.5 truck has Vorsteiner 20's, a wise choice coming in at 29lbs per wheel. The 2.7 truck has Fuel wheels and a typical 20 inch Fuel weighs 50 and the typical 22 inch Fuel weighs 60lbs. My 20's weigh 29.5. I did alot of research on my tire choice as well and my tire weighs 30. So 59.5 lbs per corner. I bet that 2.7 is carrying a minimum of 90 lbs per corner, probably 100. Reciprocating weight is far worse on performance than sprung weight. Ferrari says 1 pound of additional wheel/tire weight is equal to 6 pounds of sprung weight. Lets just say that 2.7 has 30 more pounds per wheel than my truck. 30x6=180. 180x4=720. So its like he added 720lbs in weight to his truck by making poor choices. So when I add turbos to my truck it will roast that truck?

      Only cons are you need 30-35 percent more fuel ,so often times the fuel pumps and injectors are maxed out on e85 and need upgrading. The other downside is the e85 actually raises compression so slightly at big power numbers the extra fuel in the cylinder takes the space of air and a an put the engine over the edge combined with the extra timing and power capacity of higher octane, your head gaskets and lower end have to be able to handle the extra cylinder pressure.

      I mean lately ford has been doing a good job with transmissions. Even the mt 82 which my mustang has is good if you get a non defective one. For example my EcoBoost mustang is tuned and makes more horsepower than a stock gt of the same year. If I had a Subaru I would be in trouble because those transmissions are only designed for 300 horsepower where my mustang came with the same transmission as a 5.0. check out the forums but I'm pretty sure trucks would follow the same formula. Also I was going to tell you many of those transmissions that break like the ones in the dodges experience damage from a violent initial acceleration. I've heard that if you ease into it at the start and then gun it makes a huge difference. Lots of people I guess get these high horsepower builds and then floor it and dump it in all-wheel drive which is really hard on the gears. It's the same principle as towing someone with a strap or a chain. If I get a run with slack it's going to break my strap but if I get tension on it and then go at it I should be okay.

    When I get my bronco I would like to do this tune but not 500hp maybe around the 430s and 400lb ft of torque.

      Unless I'm mistaken the 2.7 Eco already puts about 400 pounds of torque down in stock form.

      @@nahrens223 yeah I just checked it does. So then 500 lb ft of torque it is!! But keep the hp in the 400s I want my engine to last.

      @@elchucofried5683 Might just be a simple stage 1 chip and several hundred dollars. I have a Livernois tune on my 3.5 and I only did them over 5-star because it's Michigan and I live here. But just that tune is even a bit silly as it slews rear end shifting into 3rd. It seems I hear lots good and the very little bad things with Livernois and 5-star maybe someone knows more than me. I Din't want a grenade--that's for sure. This truck has been RUN and no issues.

    Complete insanity.
    PS. I've worked at Ford -Oakville On- and driven Ford my whole life, but switched to dodge simplt due to the Aluminum. I'm way too clumsy to fork out 10G's every time i dent it. I wish they'd bring back steel side body like the chevy, 'cause in my mind the F-150 is the nicest al around truck

      We up here deal with heavy rust and the aluminum body helps us a ton up here, it’s lighter and more efficient. Trust me on this, I’ve never seen a dented F:150 yet. That aluminum is rock solid, try it out and see, pretty impressive stuff.

    trucks are really easy to tune because they are detuned from the factory to increase reliability under high load (towing, hauling, etc.). You might be getting a shit ton of power and torque, but that ford is done for long term
