Great first cook.Love how the ribs came out,i see alot more cooking over the coals in the BBQ world again, for a few decades it declined, but as you can still taste it is quite a different end result over the typical smoker which is essentially a wood fired oven. And big is the way to go on these i would think so you can do anything from a small dinner to a whole hog.Take care, gonna jump on Rus's video now.
Really good presentation Dawg. I've been searching, and previewing smokers for about a year now, and I have continued to return to the LSG smoker. It seems to me that none are built better. You and some others have help guide me to my decision to go with the LSG Upright Smoker. One of LSG's video's on this Santa Maria grill brought me to your channel. Thanks for posting.
AWESOME!!! Welcome to the channel my man. So the LSG is a top notch product brother. My offset vertical is about 7-8 years old and still works like a champ!!! The Santa Maria is the newest addition and I LOVE that thing. Chris and Amber at Lonestar Grillz are awesome people with EXCELLENT customer service so you can't go wrong with them for sure. Thanks for checking out the video and commenting and again, welcome to The Dawgpound!!!
Thanks so much for a great and informative video, you helped me make up my mind on that Santa Maria Grill, my friend! Good bless and enjoy the chicken and ribs!!
I have been cooking on a Santa Maria now for about 20 years,I use red oak or lump charcoal, steaks are awesome on a Santa Maria, baby back ribs, high and slow, and chicken is delicous, real bbq at its best.
That is one fantastic Santa Maria grill. I stopped by Lone star grills when I was in Texas last month to check them out. Very impressive grills. That Chupacabra rubs are one of my favorites. Great video.
Joe, beautiful presentation. would be helpful for me if you would add any comments about height of the grate above the fire. Rationale of adjustment when to raise or lower grate.
Whoa! Your new Santa Maria Grill is so cool! We really enjoyed hearing all about it and watching you use it. Your chicken and your ribs look outstanding! We are so hungry now!
Hahaha... Thank you guys so much for watching. I enjoyed your live stream today as well. That coffee vase was cool! Keep popping in our live streams as well guys. We gotta get tour numbers up as well. You guys deserve it...

It’s better too buy the biggest pit you can afford, mine is a 40x24 and I love cooking on a Santa Maria. Lone star grills makes top quality grills. It will cost a little more but will last a lifetime.
I need to complain about your channel. There's only 1600 subs. Man, your quality of filming and production, coupled with amazing cooking technique, I was shocked to see that you don't have a million subs. Love you're channel and I really love that you have so many other youtubers that love you work. Keep up the great work!!
Thank you so much for your kind words. I really appreciate you checking out my channel and taking time to comment. We are building this house one brick at a time. We'll get there... welcome to The Dawgpound!!!
That is one sweet rig. Love the setup bro.The chicken and ribs looked fantastic. If i had two extra hands i would give you four thumbs up. The Santa Maria is bad to the bone. Good job my friend.
Thanks JP! Man you already know how fantastic LSG products are... I am loving this thing and yeah I think those ribs were spot on! Thanks for watching bro!
Thanks Rus!!! Man it is absolutely a lot of fun for sure. The ribs came out spot on!!! I didn't put any spritz on them or sauce at all. I literally seasoned them and cooked just as they were. That color from that Victory Lane BBQ is NUTZ!!! Can't wait to see what else you do with yours as well. Maybe we can do an LSG SMG collab???
Great video, Alton. I really appreciate all the information you shared. That LSG is legit. If I ever clear out some space, I may have to beg mommy maniac to get me one.
Hahaha. Man it really is an awesome grill that has many uses. And well you have one LSG so the only thing better is to have 2!!! Thanks for watching my man...
Pretty easy actually. I put my hand next to the meat above the grate. If I can't hold it there longer than a couple seconds, I'm probably cooking too hot. It's all feel but you'll figure it out fast.
I only use lump or charcoal too start the wood , after that it’s all wood, I love red oak or hickory for any kind of meat , and apple 🍎 wood for baby back ribs.
Thank you for your review. Regarding the wire cables - do you think they'll stand up to time, or do they need to be replaced eventually? Have you had any trouble in your time of use with any of these parts? Also, can you hang food (e.g. veggies/fruit) from the crossbar - have you tried this? Thank you!
Not sure how long the cabling will last. I don't burn that hot so hopefully I won't have to replace them. Haven't tried to hang anything but I imagine you could
Hey Alton. I'm liking this Santa Maria style grill. This size is the Cat-Daddy for sho. The chicken n ribs looked great. Whole hog cook perhaps. Great video.
Thanks bro! Can't figure out why the video freezes around the 20 ,minute mark though. Doesn't do that on my rendered video before uploading. Grrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!! But man that Victory Lane for the win. I honestly couldn't tell you. Santa Maria cooking to me is all by feel. I'd you place your hand by the meat over the grill and can't hold it there for more than a couple seconds, it's too hot. If you are raising the rack higher than that then you would be just absorbing smoke and slower cooking.
Did you look at other Santa Maria grills? I looked at gator and Pitts by jj version of that grill and But lsg appears to be better. Still up in the air if I should get the lsg
@@JohnDoe-xu2vx When it came off the truck, they used a pallet jack to put it in our driveway. At that point we just take apart the crate that was built around the cooker and wheeled it out and into it's place. They crate these cookers up pretty well and build them to ne as mobile as possible for us end users. GREAT products... We did go around the yard to the back, so we used the side walls of the crate on the ground to have a solid surface to wheel over through the grass. Once on the concrete it wheels around very easily.
The food looked great..! You and others have me convinced to go with my original idea of putting santa maria's on my mobile pit. Those LSG versions looks nice..! Had a meeting with my fabricator a couple days ago and now I can't wait. Awesome video
Thanks for the video. Are you happy with the standard wheels? Thinking of ordering very interested in your thoughts on the wheels since its a heavy unit. Thanks,.
Thanks for watching Don. So I think the standard wheels work fine for how I use it on my concrete patio. I moved it through grass absolutely fine as well. The only issue I could see is if you are on uneven surface if you don't have locking casters. As I mentioned in the video that is easily remedied by chalking the wheels. I don't think you could go wrong with either wheel set honestly.
