  • Legendary duo Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin have been friends for decades. In a raw, tender and wide-ranging conversation hosted by Pat Mitchell, the three discuss longevity, feminism, the differences between male and female friendship, what it means to live well and women's role in future of our planet. "I don't even know what I would do without my women friends," Fonda says. "I exist because I have my women friends."

    I began searching about them after i’ve watched GRACE AND FRANKIE. They have changed my melancholic view of life being old. I suddenly realized that am still young at 53 and can be vivacious! I want more tv series of them😍

      Me too!! Let's demand more mature entertainment. I'm sooo tired of shows featuring abuse of women as entertainment---such as the cop shows...Law and Order, etc.

    This might sound silly, but as a young woman, I look at these two and can finally see through the veil of ageism in our culture. These women are beautiful and strong, and wear their age well. They inspire me to live in a healthy and cheerful way and help me to recognize that life doesn't cut off after 30, or 50, or even 70. There is always more to look forward to and it can get better instead of worse.

      A lot of our ageism is from living location transient lives driven by college and job relocating.
      Gone is Gram lives either across town, or living in the same house.
      We're also living silo'ed, by age, by income and by profession.
      Gone is everyone from President/VP, to white collar, to manufacture, to janitor, in the same building. Zero relationship between the groups now, splayed across the country if not the planet.
      We're going to have to fix what we've broken, what you've inherited.
      Straight out of the movie Animal House, We f'ed up, we trusted them.

    Lighten up, people. Men and women have different kind friendships, studies have been done, yes, there are exceptions...but for those who are baby boomers, it has been a bit of a wild ride. These women are talking about female friendships, which has been proven to help us remain healthier and live longer. Be thankful to the women who paved the path before us, I had to protest to wear pants to public school. Think about that for a moment...and think about being told to sit down little lady, because a boy had something to say...lets honor the brave women who spoke out, giving the women of today the right to stand in equality, to be a chef, a doctor, or whatever they dream of becoming. As the Dali Lama has said....he believes Western Women will save the world, I do too. WE RISE.

    This comment section has become its own unofficial study of how people can hear the same words and glean completely different meanings from it. My personal interpretation is that we, each and every one of us, are born with the capacity to share the same kind of relationships with each other as anyone else, regardless of gender, social class, etc. All that changes once outside forces begin to act on us, be those forces patriarchal, matriarchal, religious, economical, or fill in the blank. For us to deny that these outside forces exist is a bit ludicrous. If anything, all the comments I've read are proof that the force is strong with many commenters.

      I agree. We heard the same message. It’s like racism or prejudice. Little kids don’t care. We love each other. We become influenced by society and that’s when prejudice arises. The macho attitude or the I am just a woman or whatever comes out. Without the negative influences of society, we would all possibly be more compassionate and loving people of everyone including ourselves regardless of our differences. But then life maybe a little boring I suppose. 🤔

      kfedup27 I felt it was uplifting and supportive of close female friendships. But Lily said women have been marginalized and have not been studied much. That’s a load of garbage. Women haven’t been studied ? Cmon..... just trying to get status through the group identity politics hierarchy of victimization. Like .... we’re not black but we are suppressed women. How Rediculous.

    • @kgbeezr75
      @kgbeezr75 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@youtuber6185 I think she was specific though and said that studies hadn't been done on how stress effects women, only on how stress effects men...the really interesting bit being that it seems to add longevity for females, whereas the opposite was true for men. That's what I thought they were saying anyway. Certainly women have been prominent in studies of other areas.

I would take the teasing of men in this video not seriously. Definitely age is a factor here, and the work that has been done by these women and inspired these women and their networks are huge! So instead of being saddened by what seems to some like an end of era, join in the celebrations of the achievement of these women: Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin and all the women who are empowering themselves whether single, single-parents, married with kids or without kids, grandmothers, great grandmother etc. etc. Kairos is here and now!!! I think many straight men spend too much time on being hard, straight, macho macho, to live the straight macho way. It takes alot of energy. This also causes women to have to be a false imitation of themselves to impress the men. I enjoy what these loves are saying. I bet if straight men could soften a bit, the women would teach them alot.

      @cathy smith she was protesting the Vietnam war like most people at the time. she was trying to make a statement that these people are human beings in a war just like America. Yes she took it too far and she made a mistake. Whether she had done it or not there would have still been the war and the deaths. She did a lot for the liberation of American women. Just because you are holding on to that one mistake, doesn't make her a traitor.

    i think this is great. its not sexist its an exaggerated joke to highlight a problem for men (culturally expected machisimo). how is it not good to address issues so embedded in the culture? rather than a lighthearted tone would a somber one be preferable? she even explained that our relationship need is equal @ birth, suggesting a societal issue. in addition the video is a celebration of female friends. although i do think the quality of male friendship should not be disparaged for being different.
