    "What just happened?"
I really hope what happened will be the ushering in of multiple nominations to various awards. Every single aspect about this video and arrangement was 100% PERFECT. 10 out of 10. VoicePlay really outdid themselves with this one.

Great reaction to a bit of VoicePlay. . .playfulness. Edvard Grieg is either rolling over in his grave, or rolling with laughter.

The fact that the "After Thoughts" section takes up almost the entire second half the video says enough about the performance, really. 🔥🔥🔥

For context, I have played this 6 or 5 years ago and how they showed each part of the orchestra is amazing. The beginning notes you herd sounds like the the woodwinds that play the first few measures. Then the strings join in with pizzicato at the quiet volume they where singing. The short notes they sung replicated that sound very well. Also the way they sung the ending of the piece was perfect the way it gradually speeds up to the insane tempo at the end was perfect. This is one of the reasons I love voiceplay that can take any song and make it sound amazing even a song with no words.

"In the Hall of the Mountain King" is a piece of orchestral music composed by Edvard Grieg in 1875 as incidental music for the sixth scene of act 2 in Henrik Ibsen's 1867 play Peer Gynt. The guys have put a story to it and come up with the characters. It's amazing.

i give them credit. i had to watch their video like 6 mines. My 4 year old daughter kept snatching my phone and watching it. when it would end she would start it over and over. but the intresting was by the 4th play threw, she was huming/mumbling/singing? along with about half the song.
    color be floored.

The full title of this movement from Peer Gynt is ‘Dance of the Imps in the hall of the Mountain King’. Hence the costumes. I play the oboe and cor anglais, and know the solo’s so well in this suite.

Thank you for another great reaction to Voice Play. This was a symphony orchestrated song that never had any words to it. I have watched many versions of this song and they all had just a still shot photo and the music. Voice Play is mimicking the orchestra. Listen to the orchestras soundtrack then you can understand how good voice play mimicked the orchestra.

"In the Hall of the Mountain King" is a very repetitive piece, and the way that VoicePlay changes up the melody was what made this song more fun. I love the original piece but I also love this version.

Love Layne and his burpboxing. New favorite Halloween, my goodness. How'd you like Eli's operatic voice? There's so much. This was one of my favorite pieces to perform in the symphonic band ( I got to play the contrabass clarinet for all those low notes). VoicePlay outdid themselves on this. So cool. The hot chili increased the pace of the song. Layne couldn't be without his carrot!

I imagine that my face looked a lot like yours the first time I heard it and viewed it. 🤔🤯😳They were going to do some thing for the spooky season and it was going to be in costume.
Cesar is adorable always👹, but this time you can see his mischievous side. You just know he’s going to cause trouble. I love how they all gang up and try and prank Layne. But Layne pays him back with that infernal carrot🥕 of his.
I’ve heard this piece of music most of my life. For heaven sake‘s, it’s been used in Looney Tunes! I knew it was from Peer Gynt, but did not know the story. I knew it had something to do with the trolls of Norway but that was it.
So I did check the link that Geoff provided on the Patreon page to a TH-cam channel called Classics Explained. It’s from Peer Gynt and the Mountain King is the troll king. A man visits them (the slower paced beginning), but has impregnated the troll Princess and doesn’t want to marry her. As the trolls anger, the tempo picks up and the music becomes more menacing as time goes by.
I don’t want to think about why they have the big cooking pot, but it’s certainly well seasoned!

Hall of the Mountain King is populated by trolls, though make-up seems inspired on multiple creatures in fantasy like goblins or kobolds. Eli and Elizabeth give me WOW vibes.

You saw Liz in the Just Sing video, but you’ve also heard her in the Frozen medley and the Greatest Showman (hers was the voice over the group beatboxing). She has a beautiful voice (and I believe used to sing with Geoff in Vox Audio.)
Speaking of beatboxing, Elizabeth of The Charismatic Voice coined the term ‘burp boxing’ for one section of this!

I agree, could imagine Pentatonix doing this musical piece - but not with the humor and creativity of VoicePlay. I love both groups and thinking VP is finally gaining long-overdue traction. I said it before - they're one original hit away from becoming the phenomenon they deserve to be.

Hall of the Mountain King is a classical piece by Grieg and is from a play called Peer Gynt. The mountain king is a troll. So they are trolls. The arrangement was made by Layne so we knew it would be funny! There are hidden easter eggs in the background so it's worth a closer look.

At 1:01 - What is the inspiration for the amazing makeup? In Wikipedia, it says: "In the Hall of the Mountain King" (Norwegian: I Dovregubbens hall, lit. 'In the Dovre man's hall') is a piece of orchestral music composed by Edvard Grieg in 1875 as incidental music for the sixth scene of act 2 in Henrik Ibsen's 1867 play Peer Gynt. It was originally part of Opus 23 but was later extracted as the final piece of Peer Gynt, Suite No. 1, Op. 46. Its easily recognizable theme has helped it attain iconic status in popular culture,[citation needed] where it has been arranged by many artists (See Grieg's music in popular culture).
The characters are trolls, or goblins, or the like.
While this has nothing to do with Peer Gynt (which is a play I have to read), they are five goblins or trolls, or something or other. The scene is that they are creating a potion to help them become better singers, or something. However, carrots will lead to their destruction, so the female troll flicks it away. (Between Layne and carrots, there seems to be a running in-joke.)
