I have now set up and taken apart this bed 3 times through 3 different moves. The most relevant part in the setup is the ratcheting and how to get it right. Every time I watch it, I'm reminded that this video speeds through that part like it's the easiest piece. Wish we had paid about half of what we did for this bed. And I wish they'd redo the video or do a specific slowed down part for the ratchet. I always have to look up other videos on how to get it right. For 1k you pay for shit to be seamless and easy or else why pay that much

Great bed, frustrating instructions/assembly. They show you the big picture of how it’s supposed to work but not the nuance required to make it all work. Hard to get brackets into position and ratchet strap on notches while keeping everything together, once assembled though it is really quite nice.

I was desperate for a bed frame and got this. I was disappointed seeing ratchet ties when I opened the box. I didn’t read the fine print or assembly when I purchased it. The wood is hollow sounding. The birch veneer plywood is cheap looking. If u buy go for the darker colored one….which they charge extra for. The bed creeks moving around…bed noise is my biggest pet peeve for a bed. It feels somewhat stable once assembled though….but the cheap would making crackling noise drives me nuts.

@@lt38217 - You couldn't buy the raw metal for the supports for $50. Then you'd have to spend time designing them, welding them, painting them. That's not to mention all the plywood, inch and a half thick and all the finishing that goes into it. It's not worth what they charge, but you couldn't make this for under $400, plus hours upon hours of labour. Is your time free? If so, I have a bunch of yard work that needs doing.

OMGWTFLOL I have a laser cutter at my disposal and was considering this myself. Definitely not 50 bucks. And a real pain in the ass without an automated steel cutter. You’d have do do many tests on length of the steel strips before you’d come to the right length after putting all the bends in there. Or you could just weld all the angles from separate pieces which would suck more. Then there’s all the grinding if you don’t weld perfect lines. And still more grinding even if you bend if you take the edges and corners off like you do with wood. Then there’s painting, or powder coating, or patina. Then drilling and hardware for the fasteners. Then glueing up the 3 1/2” plywood sheets and cutting them. Id be tempted to use black walnut slabs and dimension them which is even more labor intensive and expensive. And sanding and finishing. There’s quite a bit.
I’d just do the wood parts and let my buddy with a metal shop do all the metal. But I’m actually a bit tempted.

True to its Detroit heritage, it is poorly deigned, poorly finished, over priced piece of junk. The planks are held together by tightening two ratchet straps that go around the bottom leg posts. If you over tighten the straps the planks will buckle and push upwards. If you under tighten the straps the leg posts separate and the planks sag. The finish was terrible, the polyurethane coating was smeared and still had painters tape stuck on the back. What should cost a few hundred bucks is priced over a thousand dollars. Don’t believe any of the cute videos and the five star reviews, spend your money on something of quality and value.
