    There’s simply no excuse for filthy planes. India, Delhi in particular, has so much work force. How can you not keep the aircraft relatively clean?

    • @TheLayoverAviation
      @TheLayoverAviation  ปีที่แล้ว +46

      Emirates and many other airlines also clean up their planes in Delhi, so I wonder what makes Air India take shortcuts. You’re right. There is just no excuse.

      @LINJ638 It depends on which stations. If Emirates or BA fly to Delhi the planes will be cleaned by cleaners from there. In Dubai it’s a mix and match of cultures.

    Dubai has a great location for international travelers. Less than 3 hours to Delhi. Riga, in far northern Europe, has direct 6 hour flights to Dubai. Despite hot temps, Dubai doesn't seem to get hit by big storms or ice events.

    • @TheLayoverAviation
      @TheLayoverAviation  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      No big storms in Dubai but we do have some occasional sand storms or very thick fog.
      But none like on other continents! The location is its strength indeed.

    I encountered the exact ambience while boarding Air India from Chicago to New Delhi. The infotainment system was not working, and the seat condition was the same as in the video. Taking a 14-hours flight, I paid for the services I never got. Such disrespect towards the customer. Being a customer of Middle Eastern airlines, I learnt Air India needs to work hard to touch those standards.

    • @TheLayoverAviation
      @TheLayoverAviation  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is so sad on a 14 hour flight, specially when it’s actually not cheap. Complete disrespect.
      There is such great customers service and hospitality in India that I don’t understand why this does not apply on the planes itself.. (the crew have however always been nice to me).
      Sorry for your experience! Indians deserve better.

    Great video Alex and I’m so sorry for an unpleasant experience. These babies were in brand new immaculate condition when I was still with AI. Sad to see them in such a terrible state. One of my best friends who is a cabin crew with AI mentioned that they have to deal with this day in and day out and there’s only so much of a positive spin one can put on all these shortcomings. I’m still positive about the Tata group turning things around for the better.

      I feel it for the cabin crew. On a different flight I actually saw a group of passengers confronting the Air India cabin crew about shame and such, I didn’t understand a lot, but the cabin crew really are not in charge of fixing or cleaning. Someone else making a lot of money and with First Class staff travel benefits is the one in charge..

    Air India used to operate numerous international routes and it was the biggest domestic connector after IndiGo. Air India had to operate on unprofitable routes just to maintain the "flag carrier" tag. Some routes were very helpful to passengers however because of increased competition air india has terminated many routes.
    As an old Air India user i can confirm that the planes were much better maintained just 6 years ago.

    Thanks for the video. Kenya Airways used to have scales placed at the preboarding gate (at least the last time I flew with them on the DXB-NBO sector) to catch out passengers who had overindulged in duty-free shopping. They were not only enforcing the weight, but the dimensions of the luggage to ensure that it fits in the overhead bins. There was a heap of abandoned duty-free purchases at the pre-boarding gate and several aggrieved passengers vowed not to fly again with KQ.

About a year ago flew Air India Delhi to TRV and it was fab, loved the food, the cabin crew were super efficient, the cabin was in decent shape, and the female pilots treated that plane like a rocket. Lot’s of work to be done indeed. But if something as basic as cleaning doesn’t go right there is something deeply rotten in the core. The only way to fix something like this is to completely start from scratch. Time will tell..!

  • @bhai857
    @bhai857 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think there are two major problems here,
    1. People expect miracles to happen. That TATA would magically turn around aircrafts in few months. People should first watch what their CEO has to say, and his plans and priorities before building expectations. If you don't like it, don't fly. Simple.
    2. There is a general stereotype build up by many small time TH-camrs (like this one) that all European and ME airlines are great, sparkling clean all the time, and all Indian airlines are dirty all the time. I primarily travel European airlines for my work, and have seen even worse cabin cleanliness on BA, KLM and Lufthansa on many many occasions. But of course, small time TH-camrs won't show that, because nitpicking and creating a big drama out of everything India helps attract views anyways... so why not?

    • @aayushmaanjaiswal0806
      @aayushmaanjaiswal0806 ปีที่แล้ว

      Though western airlines are overglorified but it's true experience in AI is horrorful for many but yes it was under govt for so many years and govt employees hv exploited the whole management and system within AI for so long so obviously things will take time to change also tata don't lay off old employees its their generosity and some of old employees still work with govt mindset u know how govt employees behave which is evident by protests against changes bring by management to improve condition as changes will make those employees to work hard which these employees from govt era won't let happen

    • @bhai857
      @bhai857 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aayushmaanjaiswal0806 TATA is not generous. It's hands are tied by the deal they have signed with GOI when they bought Air India. According to the disinvestment conditions, the Tata Group cannot lay off employees for one year from taking ownership and can offer VRS in the second year. This condition is the reason why we still see old government staff in Air India. TATA right now is trying to solve this problem by re-training it's crew. But it takes time. Once the two year hold is gone, we'll see fresh new young faces in AI.
      You are right, old government mindset employees are difficult to change. But these TH-camrs can't be expected to do basic research and provide an informed and educated opinion. For them, cheap drama is the way to earn views.

    Sadly this a common occurance on Air India your plane is either dirty or broken bcz they dont maintain them properly I.E earlier this month an Air India B777 200LR flying from BLR to SFO had to divert to a Russian town in the middle of nowhere due to an engine failure mid flight and it was stuck there for days because they needed permisson from the govt to get the plane fixed as there are still restrictions between the Russian airspace and planes flying to and from the US. If this is the state of the cabin, I can only wonder how Air India handles the maintenance of their fleet...

    • @SenS3d
      @SenS3d ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No actually the thing is, the aircraft maintenance in India is done quite well compared to other countries because of the very strict aviation rules. Thats why they somehow try to cover up the extra maintenance cost by not giving the cabin the care it needs. Still this thing is mostly applicable to air india, spicejet and sometimes vistara only

    4:56 Why do the spoilers raise?
    It biases the spoilers up during engine start and taxi to prevent scraping of the ends of the spoilers from scraping on the flaps when the flaps are extended.

    • @TheLayoverAviation
      @TheLayoverAviation  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, true that, and that part I know, but if you notice the spoilers raise during engine start, then lower, and then raise again when the flaps are deployed.

      The flight I published before this one just had a stunning crew and working USB’s. It was a way better maintained aircraft, but I’ve noticed that a few times and Air India are known to “salvage” other planes to keep others in good shape. My thought when I saw all USB’s missing was that they’re now likely on some other aircraft.

    Oh no what a great shame to hear this? I flown Air India years ago on their 747s and they were very good, sadly obviously a lot has happened since then, yes looks like a lot needs to be updated which I’m sure will happen soon with the Hugh influx of new planes ordered. As 787 standards these aircrafts should be updated regularly what a great shame. As for the IE that is poor and no touch screens that’s unheard of these days. Well the Indian hospitality and food I could of bet money on to have been a winner. Another great and honest review and hope your next experience with AI will be much more pleasant. 👏👏

      They used to be amongst the worlds best..
      Indian hospitality is spectacular and I thoroughly enjoy each stay there, so yes, it’s quite a disappointment that the national carrier is in this state. But that’s what happens when the foundations of a home are rotten to the core. The only way to fix this is to completely tear it down and start from scratch. Not by replacing “old” planes with new ones. The same issue will occur.

    Sad to see the current state of Air India. Had many choices to travel between Dubai and home in Pune back in the day and would, unfortunately, end up on Air India Express or Spicejet most of the time as they were the only direct options. I had to make myself travel to Mumbai and take a 3-hour cab from there to Pune just for the luxury of traveling Emirates, Etihad, and Cathay Pacific (yes, CX flew between DXB-BOM..what days those were. :) )
    As far as national airlines go, my fav would have to be LX, TK, BA (because of their new Club Suite I got to try as standby staff travel :D ) thus far. Can never beat the food served in Indian/Pakistani airlines though.

      I never tried the BA club suite yet but looking forward to! My favorite airlines will have to be the Middle Eastern ones, some Asian ones and Virgin Atlantic. Something about their coolness that I like!

      It can also perfectly be a video from last year mixed with some new footage. I’ve got over 100 filmed experiences so many are becoming quite old by now. That’s also why on some video’s you can randomly see people still wearing masks. It takes over a week to edit a video, but just hours to film one so the backlog is massive! This week alone I’ve taken 3 flights so far. That alone will take me close to a month to edit 😂

    Does anyone know why foot rests are expensive to have?

    • @TheLayoverAviation
      @TheLayoverAviation  ปีที่แล้ว

      They’re heavy! Add them all up and its a lot of extra weight. This burns a lot of more fuel.
      They also have to be maintained occasionally, that also costs money (but as you can see, cabin maintenance doesn’t matter that much here)

    Who is ringing the call bell so many times?! 🙄

    • @TheLayoverAviation
      @TheLayoverAviation  ปีที่แล้ว

      It was non stop! Despite the plane being almost empty there were a lot of very demanding people.. I’m glad you noticed. Please don’t be that person on your flights! 😜

      @aya_an_wer manners.. There are many others besides the one arrogant person who keeps asking for stuff.
      The call bell is there for important stuff, it’s not a delivery buffet.

      This bunch of passengers work 2 years in the Gulf. And when returning they just want to show off, be served.

    The Tata group took over recently and ofc massive changes were announced but I think people such as yourself underestimate the amt of time it takes for a Flag carrier of this size to turn itself around 470 planes are on order but both Boeing and airbus have back orders due affecting Air India’s overhaul plan although I do understand the plane and its filth was unacceptable and ur frustration is justified. Refitting aircraft with new seats will begin in May 2024 onwards until a year or so. They have already retrofitted all their 777-300ER. And have leased etihad and delta craft to temporarily improve experience until Boeing airbus get their shit together, Give them a try in a couple of years should be better until then avoid them on shorter routes
