Inside Qatar Airways - How do they make 200,000 Airplane Meals a day?

  • I visited Qatar Aircraft Catering Company (QACC) which produces 200,000 airplane meals a day for Qatar Airways and all airlines in Doha. This vlog goes into detail on how airplane food is made through all the processes before transport onto the airplane.
My first stop is at the hot kitchen. Executive chef Decha showed me around the busy kitchen theatre with a lot of action taking place. QACC uses some automation to prepare food such as a rotating omelet cooker, grill bacon machine and special oil fryers. I also visited the cold kitchen for appetizers, salads and the pastry section.
After the food is cooked, it goes into chillers before arriving at portioning and packaging for flight. At the tray build-up area, new trays and portioned food were then loaded onto the cleaned trolley. All catering was then kept chilled before being taken by high-loader truck into the airplane. I follow the catering loading onto a Qatar Airways B777.
Last, I tasted some of the Business Class food at the catering center and met Qatari chef Noof Al Marri. She introduced me to her signature chicken machboos dish. At the end of the tour, I was shown how they’re treating all the food wastage from production by turning food waste into water.

My channel promotes commercial aviation. 2 years ago, I started a series called “Airlines Uncovered” to cover more behind-the-scenes such as the operation or catering of an airline.
Qatar Airways has provided access for me in this video to show their operation “as is” from a discovery and neutral angle. This is not a paid PR campaign.

You need to go undercover to find out what is going on . What you are doing is controlled PR. Employees are warned before. By the way it’s not bad airlines. Each big organisation requires continuous improvement in processes. What is wrong is TOP LEADERSHIP encouraging / using, unethical / wrong practices, which I think Cahill was trying to highlight.
Maybe he was pissed off :)

Wow amazing, thanks @samChui you have reviewed the qatar airways kitchen, you are cool you have been given full access / permission to cover everything in the qatar airways kitchen. clean kitchen and hygienic and high-tech cooking. I'm even more enthusiastic about flying with @qatarairways. Thank you Qatar Airways for offering the best to its passengers.

@@ArvindSharma-zm4vz You're making some assumptions. I work similar to a TV/media outlet. If you want to have a production in a restricted facility, access must be sought. Granted they knew I was there for filming but I kept the angle neutral and discovery for the benefit of our audience. I am not an airline critic.

Have always loved traveling with Qatar Air, the Q suite has always been my first choice in the skies. A warm & friendly crew on long haul flights can me you feel comfortable after a hectic trip or set you up for a fantastic meeting upon arrival. Unfortunately, the experience these days is not as great as it used to be say pre COVID. In Recent past some of my short haul flights with QA have been very disappointing, not just in flight but on ground experience is also not the same as before. Not sure what has gone wrong inside QA, the PR engagement and social media outreach can only help so much, QA must find out real cause and put its house in order before its too late.

We planned the video few months back. This is the result of the change of management that opens up good opportunities to film inside Qatar Airways, like I did with 20 + airlines in the past. The aim is to improve transparency of what they do and see the details of their work. You have to remember there are a lot of dedicated and hard working staff in the airline. I do not get paid to do this as many would think.
I can also tell you the working conditions and everything is under review. The new management cares about the feedback and want to genuinely improve the airline.

All the process from food preparation to presentation in metal packaging and plates is incredible!
One thing that caught my attention is that some people were without gloves and with rings. Is it a cultural issue?
Greetings Sam, always good videos, and in this case, literally showing where the magic of on-board service is cooked.

Just marriage rings and some products like croissants are touchable without gloves because they’re going to be baked/cooked.

This is very interesting to know that they prepare their own foods. I know most airlines in the U.S. are being supplied by catering companies. Another great informative video Sam.

Fascinating! I was not aware so much of the food for Qatar Airways is hand prepared. Now if only North American airlilnes could take a page or two from this, maybe there would be far less waste and far my appreciation for meals onboard.

That German asshole gave Qatar a bad review which is his right but then throw shade at Sam and other TH-camrs who had positive experience with Qatar. Guess the problem is with him and not Qatar. I don't watch flight reviews to see Karins fighting airlines

@@MohammedAls66 we can tell how good the 'working conditions' are in western countries by the millions of homeless people and people living below the poverty line and shit tons of crime. Look at California

We in the west have such an ignorant view with how the media has portrayed such countries. Yes there have been issues in the early days but they've long been ironed out. I lived in Dubai for 1 year originally being from UK & its literally a melting pot for every culture & nationality like an American dream. Even lowest construction labourers can save enough to build homes back home, send kids to school, buy lands & more. Also a myth that all of them are in low paid jobs, think of every job from receptionist, security guard, retail assistant to businesses owners, there's so many middle class & even millioanires from poor countries who have made it big in Dubai. I promise you are not aware of the modern slavery you have going on at home, Like the UK which literally has loads of illegal migrants working for £1/2 an hour & are often abused cause they can't seek help due to their status, same thing across Europe. It's why visa's & permfits were so strict in gulf countries, to make sure you could only be in the country with a job & not starve/beg & be vulnerable to the black market. Of course there were flaws like you'd have to have your visa sponsors permission for everything, but these rules changed over 5-10 years ago. You will see middle class & millionare Pakistanis, indians, africans, south Americans & even westenrers who have all made their wealth in Dubai etc. My sister left to go teach in Dubai, she now saves ££ annually when she made in full back home in the UK with much worse working conditions & benefits. In my year in Dubai I made an effort to talk to everyone from my cleaners, receptionist, people at work, retail stores to even fuel pump attendants. All have much better life & wouldn't leave, only downside is being away from family. P.s. If you work for Qatar airways it's a high in demand job, they get thousands of applications for 1 small role.

Things aren’t expensive just because you can’t afford them. So much quality and effort going on in the backstage - well done Qatar! I honestly can’t afford it either, but some day I will have this experience.
