For those who are reluctant to try chapulines, the “crickets” (grasshoppers) are picked from corn fields (not off the ground from random streets lol). Secondly, they roast the grasshoppers in red chile and they add lime and salt. They are toasty, not squishy. They have a light earthy taste. You don’t get sick from eating them. And they’re actually pretty good, especially with a cold beer.
My parents are from Oaxaca and we eat these almost every other week. My family really loves them. The way we do it is get the tortilla and lightly drizzle with water so it would soften a little then heat it up since it’s pretty hard and it could hurt your jaw if your not used to it. Then we take it off the stove and add our favorite toppings like the beans and cheese Gordon used which by the way it’s called “quesillo”. Some even add cabbage for a bit of bitterness. It’s best accompanied with a piece of meat like chorizo, pork, chicken, or a thin piece of beef called “tasajo”. What Gordon did was gourmet and oh man it looks so good. I’m glad he visited where my family comes from.

I Know it sounds super gross and looks gross but I promise you its absolutely delicious and incredibly good for you. Hopefully one day we completely stop eating meat and just eat bugs. I used to be super grossed out by em but i tried one my first time in china and it was AMAZING. theres so many different types of bugs too and some definitely arent for me like spiders for example, but others like big beatles mmmmmmm.
Imagínate servir esa comida típica de Oaxaca en los restaurantes de Gordon Ramsey uff🤤😋
