Oh, Metal Gear Rising is for sure the blessed game. With what difficulties it was made, how many changes in game direction it overcame, but at last a literal masterpiece was born. And as someone who played it back in 2013, watching how its popularity reborned like phoenix brings me a lot of joy!~
There is something that is incredibly special in how it was walking literally the perfect tightrope between serious and funny, ridiculous and profound. And I think the music is big part of it. Honest to god masterpiece that I wish we would get a spiritual sequel for. Maybe not by the same people, maybe not the same franchise, but the same lessons packed into a new game

To think that if Sam's scabbard was made out of some type of rock that could resist the detonation of a small amount of black powder at the end he could technically shoot out his katana even without all the futuristic stuff. He'd just need to prepare it all first and then use a long match to light up the black powder at the back of his scabbard.
That's basically just how a gun works. But instead of shooting the projectile at supersonic speeds it needs to do a little slower, so less powder I guess
The only bad side is that it would be a lot less practical since he needs his power suit/cybernetic arm to withstand the sword flying out at such a speed
I don't know much about Japanese History beyond the time period between August 1 1894(First Japanese Battleship laid down (Fuji)), and July 28 1945(Last Japanese Battleships sinking in battle (Hyuga and Haruna) (Nagato was sunk after the war, nuked in by the US) So I have no Idea what the Japanese had in terms of technology and materials, but they could just simply use a small powder bag and a flintlock to ignite it. This would mean that you can easly prepare it by just dropping a small powder bag before sheating the sword, and then cocking up the flintlock. bam, pull the trigger Katana flies out.
THE ART SHOWS EVERYTHING ABOUT CHARACTERS AND I LOVE IT. Jetstream Sam is playing defense and trying to stand still while Raiden is running with his sword pulled out. Sam is standing on the side with the japanese house like he protects Desperados while Raiden is on the side with tsunami that is going in the side of that house. the red bridge behind raiden shows his long journey to this moment. and i didnt even translated the writings cuz i am too lazy.
I love that the art in this video really emphasizes a sort of "yin-yang" motif between Raiden and Sam, with Raiden's black suit and white hair and Sam being vice versa. I was pretty late to getting to play this game but god damn am I glad I finally did.
Lore time. *Blessed by the thunder god, an samurai named Raiden roamed, seeking vengeance. One day, he found the man who killed his master, and this man? His name was Gun Powder Sam. This man had infused his blade and his sheath with a dust named "Gun powder." The battle lasted only minutes, both were skilled, but Raiden won out of sheer will.*
