Hi Robbie The canal from Bielby to Cottingwith was cut by CRT contractors two weeks after your visit. The Bielby Arm is a fresh water nature reserve. PCAS is now hoping to open the canal as far as Coates Lock where above the top gates is a winding hole. Malcolm
Cheers Malcolm please don’t tell anyone I tried to barge into a nature reserve 😂 On a serious note please could I request some moorings above the lock to make it more attractive to stop/turn around?
Hi Robbie PCAS have been for several years now ready to put boat moorings in place at bridge 8. However CRT have said that they would do the job instead. We are still waiting for them to start.
I’m always pleased to see your vlogs pop up. When you disappear I get a bit worried. It’s good to see you doing ok, I know it’s not been the year you planned but glad your still cranking and keeping busy. Please take care of yourself and remember, there’s is an army of cheerleaders out here for you! Stay safe. ❤
Thoroughly enjoyable. I went up this canal with the intrepid Neil Arlidge back in about 2004(?) And we did a huge amount of dredging and weed cutting on nb Ernest. A wonderful era which I miss dreadfully as Neil seems to have disappeared.
What a peaceful and scenic section of canal, hard work for you but worth it for us to see . Great editing as per usual, very easy on the eye to watch 👍
" No John Smiths " is the best sign I've ever seen in a pub ! Lovely film of a lovely canal, I do hope they manage to restore more of it. Also one of your frogs was a toad, (the one that was walking)
Hi Robbie. Well I'm stuck at home with Covid feeling sorry for myself and I just had a catch up of your latest vlogs. Really cheered me up mate as you always do. Your cheerfulness and positivity is chicken soup for the soul. Love all your videos. Stay safe and keep cranking it 👍
seems this old canal has suddenly become very popular.......that is great as it encourages other boaters to explore it...hope more of it gets restored now boaters are using it more....
Ha ha has it?!! Well like you say hopefully that’s a good thing but i wouldn’t want to be there with too many other boats there seems to be no where to moor apart from the lock landings!!
🌟Good to see your vlog! 👍. Thanks for taking us up there, would be a terrific canal if restored and cleared. So much work already done by some great folks. Joan
Amazing video it’s a shame that the canal isn’t fully restored hopefully they get it up and going again unfortunately for me I will never be able to narrow boat because of my disability I was born with but at least I get to watch narrow boat videos
just found your channel after wanting to learn more about canals. Just recently spent a day on an old work colleagues narrow boat and loved it so planning a weeks holiday on one next year. Good to see some one of similar age as me having a real passion for this. look forward to making my way through your backlog 👌
Wonderful Robbie , may you never run out of diesel section of canal was stunning in one place where trees were on either side of you it was like natures own Cathedral stunningly beautiful and frogs are a good sign of healthy clean environment keep up the great work, and keep on cranking on love your unfolding vistas 🙂❤
Good to see you on that stretch. I was hoping you made it to Bielby. Decades ago, on a sports tour in the USA, I met the Bielby family, in New Jersey. I've kept in touch with them ever since, now in Texas. Their forefathers emigrated from Bielby village, and I did go years ago to take some photos for them. Since then a couple have been there for a visit to their 'ancestral' home.
Tremendous work. Thanks for making the effort to explore this almost forgotten waterway and then to share the experience with us in such an evocative way. Loved it!
Robbie once again love the vlog. It seemed to me for a little used canal the lock systems were in good condition, and easy to operate m loved the ghosting effects in the edit well done. Cheers from boring Indiana
My sons dog chewed up my oil vacuums pipes making it a bit useless for now 🙄 No way I could get my boat up there and @ 14:45 I would be crapping myself if I had done and got that far...... Catch up sometime soon for a pint or two 😁
That was great Robbie, enjoy your upcoming filming for the Canal boat diaries,if you pass by my lock just after the Gorilla I’ll give you the bottle of ale that was brewed there on the canal side, just started lock keeping this May after spending 35 years as an NHS Paramedic and loving the tranquil lifestyle. Also,at the old lock keepers cottage at my lock live a couple with two white German shepherds and the lady is an author, and she has written a book based around that lock keepers cottage and area, and the two white dogs, its for children and young adults but it’s a nice read and lots of older people enjoy it too, anyway she has signed a copy for you and if I see you pass by you can have that too. Have a great time at all the places you’re about to visit, all the best. Pete.
I think you did a great job doing your gearbox oil change. I am no professional, but have done my oil and gearbox/tranny/differential on my SUV, you did it plenty fine with the dipstick method, and is truly the best method(trusting original engineering).
New sub here,i watched your series on bbc4 then on here, you look like you have some good adventures!i was in a chippy in Gargrave today the same one you visited on your barrowford to Bingley episode 👌
Hi Chris well I’ve not been there since summer so can’t say but I’d very much doubt it there were only a couple of others boats braving it when I was there!
Great footage Robbie. Thank you for your superb effort. The canals are a national treasure and the hope of more restoration brings me joy because it is a sacred place and deserves care and maintenance.
While you are in the area any plans to visit the River Ancholme Canal in North Lincs (Off the Humber at South Ferriby and runs south to beyond Brigg). I have not seen anyone vlog it yet, so you could be the first! (I've been through the lock at Ferriby a number of times decades ago, but on sailing boats that cannot got to Brigg due to mast height. Near to the Humber is it a popular place for yachties. In Brigg it is more cruisers.)
The box that takes 300ml is the final reduction gear off the gearbox to amplify torque and reduce revs and the lh150 is the whole gearbox that gives forward neutral reverse ( of they go wrong they will always fail in ahead to get you home again! The lh150 is a lovely gearbox indeed! And nice to see you doing some maintenance lad! The reduction box has a drain okug on the bottom of the rear face for easy changes sure the lh150 does too but the memory isn't so good for that one the vacuum pumps don't get all the sludge out the bottom in my experience Happy cruising and looking forward to seeing more BBC work when it's released! Certainly a beautiful stretch to cruise up and the wildlife is amazing! Keep safe and keep cranking!!
Of all the canal boat TH-camrs I have watched, I have only ever seen one actually volunteer for the CRT. But have heard many complain. Beautiful canal. Keep well and stay safe.
Robbie great video as always. Little hint it looks like you still have the protective wrapper on your solar panels. Take it off as it will make the panel work better 👍🏻 safe travels
... and lo, a boat DID appear...actually a canoe ...but still... Now that it is obvious that there is much "brass" to be made from the canals, now that they have become recreational/habitational AND, to an extent, wetland environments for not just humans, more of the old routes that were shortsightedly shut down and abandoned will be rehabilitated. I have seen a few videos about some ongoing restoration projects. more "crankage" potential for the future!
Am very surprised you got as far as you did, it was in the late 80's I fished on it, only about 10% fishable back then, I know they do bits of cleaning up on the waters and locks, none I saw were in working conditions.
Yes, the East Yorkshire Wolds are lovely, but it doesnt really get many tourists most people make for York or the Coast or the better known Yorkshire Dales and Moors. Its not really geared up for tourists hence why you probably found the facilities quite poor, its just and agricultual area. I used to live in the East Yorkshire Wolds so I know how nice the area is and there are nature reserves in the area too owned by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, Woodland Trust and Local Authorities. There are the lovely towns of Beverly and Howden and several Country Houses worth visiting and The Yorkshire Wolds Railway and Wolds Lavender, and several gardens too.
Another boatastic vlog Robbie. Thanks fella for your continued efforts. So glad to see a bit of drone footage too. Keep well and good luck with the next series. I’ll be in touch soon. All the best Ed
Great video Robbie, the filming looks so clear and bright I immediately thought you'd invested in a new camera but it seems not! Maybe you've given the lens a wipe or could it just be the lighting was so good?
Amazing. Love The Clouds ☁️ following you. Brilliant from start to finish…. The longer the better. Compose a score while watching yourself. Thank You. Always a pleasure. So quintessential. Inspiring. P.S. Love the Timelapse. How about more letterbox?!??(lol) Love the All Black. Vielen Dank
Nice to see you back! When I was younger I did what you did here by canoe: going up small creeks to see how far I could go. You can't get stuck that way, really, so it's less nerve wrecking :-) Also glad to see your truck is working again, brilliant! I presume MInimal List must have made it up there too ... do you have any idea how many boats come there? Even with limited moorings and services, seems like a nice place to go if you *really* want to get away from it all. Cheers!
Hi Robbie I love your TV show and your videos I was watching one where you were helping Hire boat And you mentioned how quiet the engine was is the no way you could put sound insulation in your engine room it’s quiet yours down
@@RobbieCumming Thank you for your reply Robbie , Is there any new type of soundproofing that could be used without interrupting airflow? And if the technology comes available would you be interested in having an electric engine
Forgive my ignorance Robbie, but I've always wondered why there's not some kind of box built of mesh that allows water but not weed etc. around the propeller and thus reducing the amount of times you have to stop and clear it up. I'm sure there's a really obvious reason why not, but it'd be good if you could have one I'm guessing. 😁
You’re a brave man going up to a dead end single handedly , we’ll done! I’ve just got back from my trip on the Oxford and the Grand Union Leicester branch. Fabulous! The Foxton Flight was good. Have you done that section? Atb Paul.
Robbie, Do you get a Silver Propeller for getting as far as you did ? Great Nature reserve ! I live on a Wetland in NE Thailand. The lake is used as a resevoir ! Appreciate your Vlog ! Take care ! Stu xx

Super canal in need of lots of tlc.
Glad you are doing well
Safe cruising
Keep safe warm dry and virus free.
Хорошее видео и отдых на этих каналах красивый. Удачи вам .
Nice of the walkers to help you out and you're right, there are some nice people about and you're one of them.
Bloody hell Robbie get that panel washed😉
Well done Robbie, love the drone work, music and production.
Good luck with filming the new series for BBC. :)
My brother lived in Barmby on the Moor for 47 years. Many happy memories of walks at the Pock canal head which was near to the village.
Great vlog, looking forward to new series, and really enjoying new tunes 😀

Perfect timing for a Robbie vlog - I'm heading out on my first narrowboat trip soon on a hire boat and I cannot wait. Making me very excited!
🌟Good to see your vlog! 👍. Thanks for taking us up there, would be a terrific canal if restored and cleared. So much work already done by some great folks. Joan
I’m sure that your videos will inspire other narrowboaters to venture down this beautiful canal. Vanessa and Zephyr will be watching!
Stunning part of the network, another beautiful vlog x
When it comes over dark like that, you should take off the dark glasses and put on the Rose Tinted ones.
What a beautiful stretch of canal, you should get a float for your keys!
Good luck with the filming for the new BBC series mate! ☺
Keep on cranking it Robbie 👍

For an overgrown and underused canal the locks look in good condition

Hi Robbie, thanks for keeping me company when I can't sleep, hope one day you will come South.
Really interesting Robbie. 💕
Without you, we would never see all these wonderful scenes. Love your work.
Love 🎉❤the latest video Robbie! Somehow you manage to weave genuineness and authenticity into all your videos. Always wonderful to watch!

Catch up sometime soon for a pint or two 😁
Your transitions are great - it adds to the overall pace. Nicely done!
Hi Robbie. An interesting journey, thanks for sharing. Also, very nice double exposure shots :)
Thank you - just a simple cross dissolve transition on a long static shot - i call it a ghost transition 👻

Hi Chris well I’ve not been there since summer so can’t say but I’d very much doubt it there were only a couple of others boats braving it when I was there!
Really enjoyed this over run canal. Gives you an idea what is in store for the Trust in bringing these up to par. Glad I found your vlog!!
A beauty. Thanks.
Great footage Robbie. Thank you for your superb effort. The canals are a national treasure and the hope of more restoration brings me joy because it is a sacred place and deserves care and maintenance.
Lovely stuff! 🙂
You're getting really good at editing, the fading in of the boat bits is really good.
Thank you
Real nice wiews right at the end! Thank you for taking us along with you on this ride Robbie!
That's such a beautiful canal Robbie. Thanks for taking us along.😄

Great video, but I don't know how you resisted commenting on the half naked guy in a rowing boat!
No judgement on this channel Lynne 😂
Great video, frogs a bonus, and what lovely scenery
Thank you for your vlogs. 🙂
Of all the canal boat TH-camrs I have watched, I have only ever seen one actually volunteer for the CRT. But have heard many complain. Beautiful canal. Keep well and stay safe.
Ha ha well I wouldn’t call what I did volunteering for CRT just doing my bit! 😄
Good one Robbie
Never knew you were on TH-cam. Really enjoyed the tv programme you did a while back.
Thanks paul yes this is where it all started!
Just a real gem this one Robbie. Top quality 🎉

that canal looks a nightmare to me, apart from the solitude, plus East Yorkshire is very beautiful
