- After seeing several Ninjago theories from fans speculating whether or not the Overlord is an Oni, I decided to debunk the idea because... other fans started to like the idea... for some reason. Just enjoy and find out why the Overlord can't be an Oni.

The overlord is just the darkness born from the realm, neither dragon, human, snake, oni, stone warrior, none. He just darkness

He's the elemental master of darkness when you think about it
Well yeah he’s elemental power is darkness. That’s confirmed by the writers.
Odds are, the reason the Overlord exists was due to the First Spinjitzu Master casting out the evil his Oni-side represented.
Also, the Overlord may look like a Dragon for the sake of making funmof the First Spinjitzu Master by mirroring the image of the Dragons who are typically represented as being creatures of an Alignment of Light/Good- so him being "evil" and taking the form of a Dragon may have been done because of that irony to mock his enemy. Or maybe he thought they looked cool and would intimidate people.
Furthermore, the Overlord would be holding his sides and *LAUGHING* hysterically if he met an Oni. He'd probably say something to the effect of, "No wonder my nemesis was so WEAK, with you WORMS as his parents!" Or some other cruel and arrogant remark.
The Overlord is FAR stronger than ANY Oni. Demonstrated by him surviving BLASTS of Golden Power and CONTROLLING it. The Oni are *ALLERGIC* to it. They would NOT survive using the golden armor, they would burn up in its light and DIE.
Also, if the Overlord REALLY WAS an Oni, don't you think he'd have summoned up his brethren to fight the Ninja or possess them instead of using Garmadon? So the fact that he didn't summon the Oni, even at the end of season 2 when he had damn near Won, says that the Overlord probably knew nothing of them. And *IF* he does, he'd probably eat them or keep them as pets due to how far BENEATH him they are.
The Oni are Demons, Demigods of Destruction and War *at BEST.* The Overlord is a *GOD* of Death, Destruction, Darkness, and Evil at *WORST.*
The difference in power and nature is clear.

I like to think about the oni, dragon, FSM and overlord like this:
Destruction represents yin
Creation represnts yang
FSM represents the balance that teathers them together (the circle)
Overlord is an inbalance outside of the concept of yin and yang, manifested only because the old order has been disrupted (FSM leaving the 1st realm and creating (colonizing) ninjago)

Actually I want to see you do a video on him being a dragon, sorry but this brings a ton points to question the first spinjitzu master created Ninjago but not the overlord this means he's not of the realm, him being a dragon would line up with him creating the Stone army and this is a bit of speculation but there is no elemental dragon related to darkness. I would love to see you cover this topic it bit more, that's it from me see ya

He isn't an Oni per se. He's more of an indirect creation of theirs. He's the embodiment of Ninjago's dark half. The FSM created Ninjago which means that while The Overlord is made of Darkness, he has some Light in him which is why he's able to use the Golden Armor. It's also the same reason that he can turn into a Dragon. Also, the part about immortality and power of an element vs incarnation of an element: it's possible for a being to create a being more powerful than themself. Besides, when you say immortal you think of "can't be killed". There are different kinds of immortality. Immortality in general is the ability to live forever(can't die from aging). That is the standard form of immortality. The Oni have that. Also, The Overlord can be killed as easily as the Oni. It's his soul that can't be destroyed(but we can't really say that since no one's ever tried. Plus, The Overlord is an "As long as there is evil" villain). And with this information we could say that the Oni also have immortal souls. Lastly, someone with the power of an element can create a being out of that element. They don't merely have the power of that element. They control it.
The Overlord also wields the golden armor in Rebooted, and if you've watched March of the Oni, you'll know how the Oni reacts to the golden armor compared to The Overlord.
And if you watched March of the Oni and the last episode of season 2 you'll know that Overlord and the oni have the same colors and powers.
The black cloud of the oni looks exactly like the one of the overlord, the difference is the overlord turned his victims on puppets and Omega on statues.
This video is made before season 10, so the creator had an excuse then, but now?
The Overlord is master of darkness, but also the oni are called the darkness on season 10... _BRUUUUH_

In rebooted the overlord tries to steal the golden the power that is housed by Lloyd but when Lloyd gives his power to ninja he seeks the golden weapons and makes the golden armor and wears it . Now keep in mind the golden weapons were made by the the first Spinjitzu master and each weapon holds one the elements of creation so when put together it holds the power of creation the oni hold the power of destruction and creation hurts them.
The is proven in season 10 when garmadon and Lloyd are cornered and then use the golden armor to repel the oni back.
So if the overlord was an oni then in rebooted wouldn’t the armor kill him or repel him this means that the overlord can’t be oni

Overlord being a oni is most likely wrong cause oni wouldn't be like dragon cause there enemies but the dragon has bit more weight not saying that is true but review points, his original form, the power of creation(Stone army), why didn't the first spinjitzu master create, first spinjitzu master created all but the overlord at the time meaning that he's no of the world and the first spinjitzu master fought him off, of course this is speculation as certain things disprove such as his immortality, but it's something to think about

As the overlord said in season 2 “wherever there is light there will always be shadows” and considering the only power at can neutralise the overlord for a while is golden powers it makes sense the overlord is just the physical manifestation of darkness and all at is within the shadows so he is neither oni nor dragon he is just the existence of shadows in physical form

My theories on who the Overlord is? I believe he is actually a soul of something else. I believe the Oni (and the Dragons) during their undying war created physical manifestations of them, beings with both powers. The FSM from the Dragons and an Elemental Dragon of Darkness from the Oni, similar to Jesus Christ and Satan from the Bible and the same species on opposite sides. Both became the black sheeps and outcasts of the clans, with the FSM being an Oni of goodness and the Darkness Dragon being a Dragon of badness. When they finally met on Ninjago, the resulting battle they fought that Misako mentioned in "The Stone Army" destroyed the Darkness Dragon, but its soul endured having been expelled from its vessel, which would then be known from now on as the "Dark Lord" and thus using his corrupted Creation to create his Stone Army, losing the battle when the FSM split Ninjago to create a Balance, putting his plan of restoring his original self, as the Darkness Dragon, by creating the Devourer, possessing the offspring of his archenemy, or BROTHER, and, well, the rest writes itself! ; )

I have just recently got into ninjago again after years sense I stopped watching it and I’ve barely started watching season 9 and just finished season 8 and i was actually wondering this like 20 minutes before I accidentally found this video and even i know he couldn’t be an oni or dragon but I’ve been around from the beginning when ninjago first aired so i guess thats why probably but no theirs no way the overlord is an oni and it WAY more powerful than the oni and the dragons by far but he’s dead anyway so why does this all matter anyway 😂 and chances of the overlord being alive are i say 50/50 tbh and dude chill you sound like your on a never ending period bruh you gotta chill and not trying to be rude btw

@@BlooMonkiMan Well Borg tower has been around since Rebooted. So like almost a decade? And the Oni weren’t introduced to the community until 2018 in the form of Sons of Garmadon. Not everything is meant to be connected in the show. And to me, this is one of those instances.

My theorist side is telling me that the Overlord is probably the "physical manifestation" of the Oni half of the First Spinjitzu Master, which left him after creating Ninjago since FSM was clearly a good guy. However, he is indeed not an Oni since he is a "physical manifestation" of darkness.

Wouldn't the Overlord being an Oni make some certain sense. At least not fully. I feel that he's not only an Oni, but a dragon as well. As his original form was a dragon, but his intentions are to destroy. But he could be more Oni than dragon that had him immortal.
