      Yeah it is. That paint looked pretty nice, but I'd rather see them go back to single stage and work that to a nice clearcoat-like shine.

    Hands down, the knowledge PGN’s brings to Authenticate a Chevelle is worth every cent.
    Even tips on who’s restoring them to all levels and budgets would save time and money.
    Listening to this mans passion takes me back to the time I was stockpiling NOS Parts to restore the ‘70 I owned, (‘86-‘95) scouring Swap Meet after Swap Meet. 👍🏻

      Only the L78 396 rare. L34 no so. Most L34 where actually 402! Oct 1969 L78 phased out and 454 replaced them. Some say 396 bored 30 over to escape EPA rules on 400 CID and smaller! Had my L34 Kansas SS since Jan 1972! All stock original.

      Kinda like the looks of the '71-'72 a little more than the '70, but the '70 is still a good looking car.
      The '69 and '70 are smiling at you, whereas the '71-'72 have a more serious look on their grills - perhaps compensating for their less powerful engines...

    Was there a big block available in a 1970 Malibu? One of the guys, who hung out at our east Cleveland Bodyshop/clubhouse, back in early 80's, had a charcoal grey plain Jane Malibu with a 4 speed and BB. It was one cool machine. ...until Charlie wrecked it, street racing. So many choice cars came out of that place, including my '69 Nova SS 350. Dave and Larry were sticklers for factory correct GM muscle. Big Dave even built an 80's Monte Carlo SS, into a BB. And it looked factory!!!

    • @DanEBoyd
      @DanEBoyd 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes. The 325 horse 396 (in basic terms) was available in all non-SS Chevelles in 1970, and for a few years after.
      But Chevrolet called that engine the 400, since all 396s became 402s in 1970. They stuck with the 396 designation for Super Sport cars with 402s for the sake of name recognition. That 400 was rated at 330 horsepower, while the SS cars got the 350 and 375 HP versions. When I was a kid, one of my older neighbor's girlfriend drove an Astro Blue four door Malibu with 400 callout badges, which IIRC were at the fronts of the fenders. Google Chevelle 400, the results are pretty interesting.

    • @rogjackson
      @rogjackson 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Maybe I missed it, but I did not hear him say the original engine and tranny were with the car. And if you watch his videos, if the original engine is present, he does an analysis on video of the block/clyinder head codes, usually, I think. Thus, by implication or inference, one can deduce that original engine/tranny are not with the car. Right? It is an original SS396 (he says so explicitly) and as long as all info is disclosed prior to sale, there is no issue as to fraud/misreps. I think that's how he looks at it. Not certain.

    So is that the original engine or not? The original was a 402 branded as a 396 for 1970. The 454 fake badging were stuck on by a previous owner or replaced fenders?

    • @ricknickols2047
      @ricknickols2047 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry it took so long to get a reply to you. The original owner died in 2005. I bought it from his son. The badges were on it when I bought it. The fenders are original. The engine that was in it barely ran. Took it to the engine shop and the cam had 5 lobes rounded off, block was milled, and numbers were gone, so I had no way of knowing if it was original. Anyway, I had a 1974, 454 built and I put it in the car thinking it was supposed to be 454.
