Same happened with us in Saaybage Software, Pune. They just alloted us the project but didn't included us in any of the stand up meetings and weekly meetings. Just to complete the formality from their side they alloted us the project but the manager didn't included us in any of the tasks. When asked mgr to give some tasks he made silly reasons and didn't gave any work. After one two months we direct received call from HR that you are having performance isssue so accpt the termination and no need to come to office. If you are not giving any chance to perform in the project so on which basis you are firing people by giving reason as poor performance.

Did they first put you in bench before HR call? Or were you billable in the project? Can you please tell

Cognizant is the worst company ever … only buttering matters

You can't just label a company like that. When you run a company and you have 100s of employees not being productive, What would you do?.
If you run a company you can't even keep a person for 2 Months of Bench period, Which means He is not making any profit for you and not doing any work but still you are paying him/her. Would you do that?.
It's true that people are suffering from this. But this is the reality. If you are on bench, There is a reason.
Buttering doesn't work always. If the entire company is just buttering, From where they would make a profit?.

You can give reasons like family emergencies.

You’re honest - that’s what you’ll do! Why make up an excuse like “family emergency”? If someone said that to me, alarm bells would start ringing!

Hi Arunprasad, this is my small suggestion. Instead of waiting for recruiters to call you, call the recruiters directly using the mobile numbers available on company websites like Google. Ask about relevant job openings; this is the best way to get interview calls. Don't wait for recruiters to contact you.
