- Since the Ranger isn't running on all four cylinders anymore I decided I needed to buy another truck. I found this 1991 Chevy Silverado1500 for $400. Hopefully It will end up being a decent truck.

A farrier came to our house and his dodge truck had so much rust on the body it looked like you could just pull the body right of. I got curious and looked at the frame and it was rusted pretty bad not the kind of truck you want to be driving

About 10 years ago theas trucks were for sale cheap all over the place now you can't hardly find them if you do people want an arm or leg for it great find

Simple cheap fixes are always the most satisfying. If I put my car into a garage for diagnosing and repair then I'd feel I'd failed! In fact what we call this side of the pond the MOT test (annual inspection in US) I'd have a similar feeling of failure if it didn't pass that straight off. And of course we like to see similar people on TH-cam. Makes us feel we're not alone in this world!

400 dollars, that's a deal. TBI are this simplest to trouble shoot and pretty reliable. For 400 bucks, the rust wouldn't bother me.

About 3 years ago the old man and me picked up a 94 stepside ext cab for $200, 350 TBI with 200+K on the clock. Needed freeze plugs. She was a good truck sold it to a young guy for 600
Here in Texas you can still find those running with no rust. Still got my 89 Chevy with 180k still running strong with not even any surface rust, just needs a paint job lol
yup, i just bought a 89 f150, 300ci and 4 speed manual for 200$ runs like a scalded dog. came with a complementary busted windshield :D , what part of tx are u in, im in duval county

Not bad at all for $400. Interesting to see that what looks like the original R4 A/C compressor is still on there.
For whatever it's worth (probably not much), the radio in that truck is capable of receiving *AM* stereo broadcasts.
I got the 1999 Chevy Silverado 1500 for 750$ CAD had 203k on it ..safetied with a lil rust under the gas tank nothing major .. running like a charm at 308k just replaced the wheel bearings
Tbi chevys are dead reliable I've had close to 10 of them they aren't power houses but they are very reliable and wont let you down
Both of my trucks had those gauges and they were a pain in the butt , di electric grease is your friend with those bad boys lol

What a great reliable truck! Fix it up, replace the rusted quarter panels, & you'll have a great daily driver for years to come. This is way better than the Ranger! If I found one of these for $400, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

I had a 91 K1500 350 5 Speed 4x4! I miss that truck!
Years ago my dad had a truck similar to that but it was a 94 I think. Then he had either a 93 or 94 Chevy Suburban but I think it had a bad PCM or whatever. It would staul while driving and crank back over slowly.
I can’t find these trucks around here in slightly better shape then that for less than 8,000$

I had a 1998 white GMC Sierra like this one and it was a good truck until I wrecked the thing lol. But I really liked how the interior and dash looked in these gen models
Not bad, I love these trucks! Best looking model years in my opinion. My 95 k2500 is flirting with 200k and going strong. Not too much original sheet metal left, but hey it runs and looks good.
My guess this truck is a '94 year model because it has the old interior before it was redone in '95. If not an '88 model or something but same interior till the change.

That speedometer shows it would be an 88-91. I think it was 92 they changed to a needle instead of the rainbow shape
@@the_truck_farmer You are correct. I've had people say the rainbow shaped speedometers only went up to 80 mph instead of 120 mph and if you had maxed out speed, it would keep going around in circles lol.
That truck seems to be the best of all of yours. I'd fix it! It may have rust. Get rid of the red truck with the gas tanks falling off.

Might be rusty but a hell of a lot less than that ranger, not a bad deal.
I have the same truck only vehicle I ever owned and I Been there before 3 times in one year fuel pump 3 time and only owned the truck for a year in half and finally decided to start a frame up rebuild

It would be easy to tell by the 8th digit of the VIN…but I suppose at almost 30 years old the engine could’ve been swapped at some point

I see this scenario a lot. Most after market fuel pumps are shipped with the wrong type of fuel line hose. You MUST use 'Submersible Fuel Line Hose" for in-tank pumps!

No that's a TBI motor, not a vortec. Vortec didn't come out until 1996

I don't see why everyone thinks he got some kind of deal. It was barely worth the $400 he spent.

Anything that runs and drives with 4wd is worth minimum of 1000 bucks
Its probably not just your pins un the doors. Check the cab mount probably rotted. My 92 Sierra had the same issue....my door litterly fell off the truck....the real problem is the doors are took heavy

I just picked up a 99 Silverado 1500 with 245k on it for 1k. Only thing wrong with it was rear brakes was shot and rear leaf springs are folded the wrong way. Its got a 5.3l and its the Z71 package. Oh and it had a busted fuel line at both sides of the fuel filter. So I cheated ran some Fuel injected line and clamped it down and used a old Ford Ranger fuel filter I had lol

I've found some pretty good cars for 300-500 here in Minnesota. Millennials don't know how to work on the vehicles or they don't want 20 year old vehicles so they get rid of them cheap.

Get a 5.0 explorer/mountaineer or a 2v Triton super duty, f150 or navigator or expedition
