It is a reference, but not necessarily one that he's going anywhere. If memory serves, the Emblems were saying they wouldnt be able to use their powers to bring anyone else from the dead. Something about a miracle every thousand years, and the last time we knew them to be even remotely united WAS a thousand years ago when Alear died once.
I sat on that rock with Sombron staring me down for like three minutes, just absorbing this music. This is SUCH good music for the final map of this game. For a game that hodgepodges all sorts of mechanics from all sorts of games, I'd expect nothing less than this weird orchestral-techno-rock fusion from it's capstone map. As if it's calling back to all of the grandiose, radical, and truly awesome things to come out of this series. Also, what a map, too. I was a little sad that the Dark Emblems weren't all that unique, and... yeah, it wasn't very difficult, but it was fun and a pretty badass setpiece, especially for a first blind playthrough.
The way they sing the "Fire Emblem" part in a more minor tone as opposed to Engage's main theme, where it is more triumphant - sounding is a really cool touch.
While this may not be as powerful as God Shattering Star it's still a fitting ending song for Engage. Very nostalgic, heroic and bittersweet. It just gives you hope that better days will come
While I think the previous final maps themes are above this theme, I absolutely adore the part that starts at 1:40 and ends at 3:15 I love when final maps incorporate their main theme into theme it’s a cliche but it’s always so nice to hear
I went into Engage knowing full well that story would not be its strong suit. Because of that, I was able to fully appreciate the story and what it was about, even if some parts definitely felt like they were written by a 12 year old (looking at the second Lythos segment). And even if the story wasn't all that great, I adored the characters and all their little gimmicks and funny designs. In the end, I think the Brodian was the best of the bunch, but I still want to do a replay someday to see how I can make characters like Etie, Timerra, etc. good and maybe go into the final map with the proper emblems this time lol. All in all, it was a rather basic and cheesy story that even had me laughing at some serious parts, but I still cheered for the final Engage lol.
"but I still want to do a replay someday to see how I can make characters like Etie, Timerra, etc. good" When I noticed my Etie falling off and having trouble doubling enemies, I gave her a killer bow with some emblem engraved on it that raised the crit rate even higher, evolved her to sniper instead of bow knight for that skill that gives an extra 10% crit and then slapped Lyn on her for good measure. She turned into an absolute monster.

@@neverinstone Timerra looks okay on paper. I haven't used her because I don't like her design or personality, but she seems to be relatively tanky, and the skill of her personal class sounds awesome.
This may not be Twilight of the Gods or God Shattering Star tier, but I still love this theme more than Id (Purpose) and End of All (to a lesser extent). It perfect combines the main leitmotif of Engage with the Dubstep of the Fell Dragon. It symbolizes Alear being both Divine and Fell Dragon really IMO. And this is their chance to prove Sombron wrong. Accepting weakness is another form of strength that he will never understand.
While engage’s story may not have been as complex as three houses, it’s execution was simply fantastic. So many little cheesy moments brought a smile to my face and the darker moments never felt like they detracted from the lighter tone but instead helped to enhance it.
I call it the Super Sentai of Fire Emblem. Not for people who came here looking for edge, but for the cheese and the ham and the even more cheese and an entire wheel of Parmagiano rolling down the hill from ch 1 to 26.
Engage is the person who brings that real damn good charcuterie board. Some people may not go for it, or just don’t like the concept. But it still is gonna be good in some places, even if they brought cheese that no one tells you that it smells like a horse stable.

This is a great song but if we're talking final map music I think this is third, with echoes being second, and fates being first. I know fates isn't allowed to be good at all but you have to admit that the soundtrack slaps and that the final map music for all three paths is genuinely amazing
With Engage you really need to lower your standards. If you go in expecting it to be a masterpiece of gameplay and storytelling, you’re going to be disappointed. But if you’re able to accept things for how they are and look past all the little grievances it’s an enjoyable game. Some of the characters may bog it down a bit for me (fuck you Goldmary) but aside from that I enjoyed this game. Still the worst of all the ones I’ve played but that’s not saying it’s bad. Still a solid 7/10 for me.
The gameplay, visuals, and music are good to great in Engage. It's too bad the story, character designs, characters, and writing are absolutely atrocious. Everyone looks like they work in a circus I was truly baffled.
I agree 100% with what you say friend, the only thing that felt like a fire emblem was the gameplay. the story (cliche), the characters (bad concepts, many copies of existing ones), characters without personality, etc., I always felt out of place and I didn't connect with any character, three houses surpasses it in every aspect, except in the graphic section and gameplay (only the new additions, such as special attacks with rings)
