When you are constantly looted by an imperial power of your wealth, for 150 years it would take time to get out of that. And it is reasonable that you wouldn't follow the same path as your aggressor who chose to loot you to fuel their capitalistic economy back in England. You would definately try to keep an ideology as distant as possible. But to our disadvantage that was not the right choice yet the choice that should be taken.
